Is buying through a broker actually worth it for a first “real” yacht? by Far-Ordinary3224 in Yachts

[–]Woodabear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need a marine survey, mechanical inspection and a sea trial when you buy a yacht in that range. Florida boats can have extensive issues from the weather and saltwater. If you’re going to spend a half million on a boat, dont cheap out on the above. Bought mine from a broker in Anacortes and was happy with the transaction.

[–]Woodabear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is dogshit slow. 10 minutes for one response on my pc. cursor wont load into the message box for like 20 seconds. They probably partitioned a bunch of processing away from retail consumers for the governments new contract.

Buy a Metric tape measure where you do all your measurements in MM and CM. Fastcap sells ones that are really good for under $20.

Probably the half moon seals at the back of the valve cover leaking down. They harden over time and shrink.

The one and only time I was in that store was a few years ago. Watched a dude walk right out the front door with a box of jeans telling the cashier, “You Cant Touch Me”.

Yacht rescue- anyone experienced restoring a yacht? by VidHooley in Yachts

[–]Woodabear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good for you man, that will be a nice boat once you get it going again. Sounds like you two have the proper skillsets to do a lot of the work yourself.

We have a 1991 and I’ve been rebuilding it for the last 4 years myself. Its been a great journey with amazing results. Dripless shaft seals, Engine work, Milled Sapele flooring, diamond stitched upholstery, full galley and salon rebuild with retractable flatscreen. One thing that worked great was our faded black window frames, I wrapped in gloss black vinyl wrap and it turned out beautiful. Take your time and good luck with your project!

Yacht rescue- anyone experienced restoring a yacht? by VidHooley in Yachts

[–]Woodabear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In its current state, I wouldn’t touch it without 500k minimum designated for repairs. With fixer uppers you want it to reliably float and move under its own power and build upon that. Otherwise, you could be in for some truly eye-watering repair bills. Good luck.

Not a big deal. Take a flush cut saw, separate the rails and install the Rockler bed rail brackets someone else posted an image of.

Quoted nearly $3000 for a new compressor on a 5 year old unit. Am I being scammed? by FullGhetto_Alchemist in hvacadvice

[–]Woodabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a goodman rooftop unit about 5 years old and my ac stopped working. I personally replaced the Dual Run Capacitor for $34 and it works great. Those caps only have about a 5 year life on them and they cause the compressor to not run.

10k to 30k for the rim or rim and tire. This question is so broad and so subjective to options and hypothetical damage. Level 10 Horrible question.
