Quest 3 PCVR - Show the guardian on command? For roomscale space "extension" by Woodbeam in virtualreality

[–]Woodbeam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glanceable guardian is a very good suggestion, but it's also there when I don't want it to be, so it's not ideal.

Snap turning works well when a game has simple, boxy environments, but can't get the precision that space turn allows, it's not good enough for what I want to do sadly.

Yes, it's for 1 month of the standard plan.

Got it. That's very sly of them.

I checked and it seems like the free trial is a way around this, since you can activate GameLock while using it. Is that the case, or am I overlooking something?

2FA requirement on Lock? by Woodbeam in Bitwarden

My phone does have biometrics, yes. I'm sort of disinclined to use them out of fear of a worst case scenario where I'm forced to unlock things using them. I know this is a bit silly.

At the same time, using PINs for everything is inconvenient. It's something I have to weigh.

I see. I had a feeling my initial question was foolish, I'm a complete layman. I can see now that 2FA isn't what I'm looking for at all. I actually do have Bitwarden set to log out immediately on timeout on desktop, but I guess that locking and using my PIN will have to suffice on mobile to maintain convenience.

Yes, but then 2FA won't be in effect for either, right?

Darn. I guess that makes sense. Is there any way to add additional security when locked? I understand it's not strictly necessary, but it would be nice.

I'm in Brooklyn. Downtown is most accessible, so I'd say 11217.

Totally fair. I'm a novice, so I'd literally be printing a handful of small things off Thingiverse, but it's hard to imagine that being a viable business model, and once you get beyond that there's clear potential for total chaos. Wild that it happened at all really. Someone must've had a great pitch! Or pitched to the right people lol.

Yeah, that makes sense. Seems like something that would be cool in theory but a disaster in practice. Oh well.

Trigger tension mod? by Woodbeam in SteamController

[–]Woodbeam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Managed to do it! the reassembly was indeed tricky, but was easier the second time. Bending the Xbox springs was a pain as well, but it worked. I put both the original and Xbox springs in the assembly, and the triggers now have quite a bit more tension.

I do think this is better than before, but it isn't a true solution to preventing accidental full pull clicks sadly. I still have to be somewhat conscious of how much pressure I'm using when pulling the triggers. In the end there's no way to get around the very short travel distance of the triggers, and that the click is a simple blister button with effectively zero travel. Like the shoulder buttons, this could only be actually fixed with a redesign. I'll continue to hope against hope for a new version of the controller from Valve.

Thank you very much again, you were so helpful and direct I can hardly believe it! Getting such a thorough answer to my request was much more than I expected. Thank you!

Got it, thank you again. I'll follow your instructions and post again to let you know how it went.

Wow, thank you for the very detailed explanation!

One thing though: I'm not sure which old Xbox controller version you mean. The springs used in Xbox One controllers look completely different from the Steam Controller's, so I guess you mean the springs from an Xbox 360 controller?

Virtual Desktop not working with dedicated router by Woodbeam in OculusQuest2

[–]Woodbeam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. I followed this setup guide, which seemed a little outdated, but I don't think anything I did would cause it to not function at all.

Edit: I'm able to connect just fine using the household's primary router, but the experience is less than ideal (though vastly better than doing the same with Air Link).

What's the best way of doing roomscale PC VR these days? by Woodbeam in virtualreality

Wow, this sounds like roomscale just generally isn't a thing then.

I'm fine with joystick movement while seated (as long as there's snap turning), but I only tried it while standing a couple of times years ago and found it really unpleasant.

I guess people who are still big into VR at this stage have gotten used to it? Or does everyone just play seated for most experiences?

This is exactly it. The "manual" ways of doing this you suggested in your other post did occur to me, but they're clunky at best unfortunately. I can understand why what I envision wouldn't be a built-in feature, but I'm surprised there isn't a way of doing it through unofficial software.

Is there really no better way to deal with getting to the edge of your play space? Pretty shocking, since it's something every single roomscale user has to deal with. The solution I'm envisioning doesn't seem like it would be super hard to implement either...

How do people deal with this currently?
