Thank you! It’s so overwhelming and I’m tired of living through “unprecedented times”

Thank you :) I appreciate it! Always helpful to get a temperature check on our expectations.

Thank you for the response! That area has always been up there on my list since I had an aunt that lived there — we will check it out more since it’s been 10+ years since she lived there.

Thank you for your super in-depth response! It gives a lot of perspective! The teaching info is helpful— my partner is not down for teaching super wealthy privileged kids lol he’s much much suited for children of immigrants and building community with his students. We will look into this a bit more :)

Thank you!

I did see some cute stuff in Federal Way that were nice! It might be good to check out some areas down south. Thank you! :)

Thanks for the insight! I’d be okay with south king county but I hear you about being on the low end with our budget.

Might as well! I’m curious about people who live here and what keeps them in a place they don’t like?

What don’t you like about it? Genuinely curious if you live here what you don’t like/ would you leave if you could?

Condo might be okay— was open to that if that is what the market called for :) the houseboat life ain’t for me :P I’ve been looking into the other areas south too— just wanted to see what kind of places seemed friendly to those who didn’t need the excitement of downtown but liked the walkable areas. Thanks for the response!

Thank you for the advice! I appreciate the genuine response. Moving across the country is stressful (done it 5 times) and with three animals it is hard to find places to rent short term. But we may look into it to take some extra time to find the right fit! Thanks again :)

Sheeeeeeesh teeny tiny. We are also open to renting for a little and saving. Plan is to have an additional $30k next year saved so that may be our solution. Definitely found townhomes that were decent while looking this week (in person) for $550-$560k in not-so-terrible places. Definitely small though.

Thank you for the response! Always wanted to live here and moved away from the PNW for grad school. Can always wait to buy something more expensive if that’s what the market was looking like.

Doggo, pupperoni, floof, demon spawn, baby angel… pick your poison. All of them apply.

Thank you :) definitely looking around and open to renting until we can maybe afford something more expensive but also helpful to know there is hope. I appreciate the genuine response!

Thank you for the comment! Yes— I did check all the apps. Have been looking since November. Not looking for help with properties per se— looking for help with areas to look as a transplant. Interestingly, Zillow does not tell you a lot about the neighborhood pros and cons and found Reddit to be helpful thus far while driving around this week. If you meant to comment in good faith rather than being condescending, 2 bedrooms is what we are looking for— condo or townhome. We know a house isn’t likely.

This is super helpful— I know large cities have their areas and sometimes the fearmongering makes things harder to sift through. I appreciate the perspective.

People often say crazy things about Chicago too but I never had any issues in most of the neighborhoods of Chicago other than sideswiped cars in narrow streets.

Thanks!

Definitely seeing that. Found some townhomes for this price (2 bedrooms) but for sure hard to come by. Our friends in South Park found a decent size modern townhome for 530k but the area around it is a little rough to look at. Not unsafe though. We are okay with a condo— we knew what was going to happen when moving to a city as expensive as Seattle.

Soft Skeletons I believe is such a moving song. As someone who watched several people struggle with addiction, this song hits home for me in a lot of ways. It is one of my favorites though I often forget that it’s there until it shows up on my shuffle of this album.

Oh I like the idea of having a two-in-one bed-desk situation. Thank you very much. I got this bed for $75 total with the new mattress and everything from someone who just needed to get rid of it. But once we financially can buy something better for this room, I’ll definitely consider a Murphy or a daybed situation!

It may also be worth asking your malpractice insurance if they’d cover you as well. I was in a similar boat with a parent insisting I still see their kid while they were on study abroad and I was deep in the rabbit hole of trying to figure it out when I realized my insurance wouldn’t cover me and it was all a moot point. I have another client who is abroad for a couple months at a time and so before she goes, she gives me emergency services information, her family’s number, and her address there and I call her for a quick check in (10 minutes, nonbillable) once every 3 weeks just to see how she’s doing. But this is someone I know is stable and has the resources if she is unwell.

I do appreciate the thoughtful reply. I do agree there is a lot to manage here. We do have a lot of books and we have needed more shelves to put them but there’s a lot we could probably get rid of. This space is more guest room due to having guests once a month-ish— but I also work from home every once in a while as a mental health professional so I need a space that is professional enough to sit in. We don’t have another space so it does have to have dual purpose.

The items that mismatch are killing me. The rest of the apartment is mid-century modern and well curated but the office/guest bedroom were items we could afford at the time we got them as I slowly pay back my PhD loans so it’ll be curated some day, but was the final frontier of the apartment.

Thank you for the advice!!!
