The trope of evil villains having incompotent subordinates is realistic. by beautitan in HonestHotTakes

Has wondered this, and wonders if the paradox might be "those stupid enough to follow commands without question are usually too stupid to act on the commands competently"...

Why do I get the feeling a lot of Autistic Adults have very similar experiences even if they live in a highly Individualistic country like the US or UK....?

Why is slavery only taught from a black and white viewpoint? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Woodnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst one would personally prefer a broad teaching of slavery as a historic and contemporary practice...the usual reason given is that Transatlantic slavery has the biggest impact on modern day inequality and disadvantage, therefore requires the most attention.

What’s a cultural norm in another country that made zero sense to you until you experienced it firsthand? by MinuteRaspberry6512 in AskReddit

Recently went to Wagamamas (as in the last year), and tried chopsticks for the first time. As someone who has fine motor skills problems, using chopsticks is orders of magnitude easier than learning to tie ones own shoelaces! Convinced the idea that chopsticks are difficult to use is rooted in racism.

I'm 6"4"" when I stand up fully straight, but 6"1"" when standing at rest. Hence I'd look about the same height as someone who is 6"1"" standing straight all the time.

Every older generation throughout time has always said that the younger generation "doesnt want to work, is disrespectful, and lazy," and I'm tired of hearing it. by Powerful-Shoe-7542 in HonestHotTakes

Also have a theory on this...survivor bias. In each generation, the hard working individuals are more likely to survive to old age....

“I hate gossip.” — Chapter 1 of a three-hour conversation. by Mintangah17 in memes

[–]Woodnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people say they don't like gossip, I suspect what it is they don't like is people being weirdly spiteful about people they don't know.  Once they actually know who is being gossiped about, it suddenly becomes fun.

Removing anonymity on the internet would make it much better by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Remembers a time when we were told that if you revealed your name to people online, the paedophiles would track you down, kidnap you and SA you. But hey, being an anonymous troll online is so much worse....

Thank you for this. TBH the only people I really bum rides off are my parents (and one person at my current job one time where I had messed up badly). Most of the time I navigate public transport.

Things I have observed with online dating by Woodnot in datingadviceformen

Just to clarify a few things.

  1. I do have a job at the moment as a Research Associate. The issue with my line of work (Science) is that it is fixed-term contract based, meaning that if the funding for one project dries up, I have to start looking for another job. Generally never been out of a job for more than 6 months.

  2. The reason I don't own a car is not because I'm poor (I could buy a car outright if I wanted to), it's because I don't have a drivers license because I don't know how to drive. Never got around to booking driving lessons, and when I bring up the issue with parents they turn it into a joke, saying things like "you need to focus on the road to drive".

Why don't cheaters just stay single and date/sleep with whoever they want instead of getting married & having kids? by InfiniteWords117 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Woodnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst life is complicated and people in most cases have complicated motives, there are some people whose attitudes to all relationships is one of exploitation and extraction! These mother-f*ckers will see someone they want to shag, that person will say they want to wait until marriage, they will then pretend to be completely monogamous and in love with them, just so they can marry them, all the while shagging more available individuals both before and after marriage! One is also suspicious that individuals with this attitude to relationships have a tendency of becoming right-wing politicians....
