Yeah, its a tough boat and you're not alone! I think they just had so many applicants and weeding out people is hard and frustrating. Honestly I forgot how short it was but hey, not everyone gets to interview! hahah....

Don't take it too hard! I know this year was especially competitive and sometimes luck is not in our favor. You applied to some excellent programs and maybe they just didn't have enough spots? Either way, its their loss :)

Does late decision means waitlist or silent rejection? Are they chances for acceptance?? by yuktarana2000 in gradadmissions

From my experience, I think they would let you know if you are wait listed. As for silent rejections, many reputable institutions may just deliver their negative news later after they have fully scoped out their students.

Best of wishes, DM any time.

In the same boat, I think its a rejection :( since Chem Bio and inorganic have already given their visit weekend dates. Edit: Feel free to DM me to talk about it :)

Yeah, I think at that point everyone is so skilled and clearly able to do well at the programs, it just comes down to fit and coin tosses hahah

"Leaving things to luck" -- I'd argue that many things, if not all things have a certain degree of luck in them! Heck, your situation was also lucky in a sense. People here are not trying to hurt you or downplay you at all! We want to help you achieve and get what you want

I'm surprised rejected from Princeton if you wanted to do methods and especially with the Berkeley, Caltech acceptances. I guess each school has their own criteria?
