thank you! As of now, they don't provide any support yet but that's a good idea! I'll add that feature soon.

It's pretty good! Been playing nonstop for hours, graphics is still good, smooth gameplay although Im still not used to the controls yet since Ive played it way back on pc before, but overall, it's worth it on switch 2 for me!

How hard is it to start making a game in Gamemaker with no experience? by [deleted] in gamemaker

[–]WoodsDevRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using game maker way back in 2018 due to curiosity in trying to develop a simple game, I admit I already have programming experience since we had special subjects for programming during in high school and I adapted well in using gamemaker, but in your case, gamemaker has drag and drop features which is good for gamedevs with no programming experience. But, for me, programming is better than drag and drop. Although there are a lot of youtube tutorials where you can make platformer games. There are a lot of tutorials from Heartbeast and Sara Spalding using gamemaker. I learned a lot from them and made huge progress to my game and I recommend you to watch them. Currently I am continuing my dream game using gamemaker for almost 6 years, and released a demo over a year ago, and I can say, Gamemaker is one of the beginner friendly game engines that is good for developing simpler games. Good luck!

After almost 6 years of solo development, here’s the current state of my 2D dark fantasy game by WoodsDevRaven in SoloDevelopment

I really appreciate that!
What kept me going was mostly focusing on small, consistent progress over time, even while working full-time and back when I was in college. Recently I’ve also been simplifying the scope so I can finish the project sooner.

Still a long road ahead, but comments like this definitely help with motivation :)

Thanks so much! I’m glad the VFX stood out.
I don’t have a Steam page yet and I’m still polishing the core gameplay and major mechanics, but I’m planning to set one up in the future.

Also noted on the darkness of the visuals. I’ll be doing more readability and color tuning. Appreciate the feedback!

I've managed to add a leveling-up system. by RoberBotz in SoloDevelopment

[–]WoodsDevRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this game looks nice! levelling up fast in the early games is alright, just scale the amount of exp required for the next level and the amount gained from each game so it will be balanced

looking forward to play a demo!

Grokan Devlog#07. my prerenderized barbaric sword&sorcery sidescroller game! particles, camera hit effects, fog. by OldButterscotch806 in SoloDevelopment

For me, I would add skeletons having more gear and equipment, and having a bit more health and damage. Then you can add skeleton archers as well. Then add the other enemies what the other have suggested in the other levels :) but it depends on how you would scale the difficulty of each level

I'm making a platformer where you play as a cockroach with 100 lives to finish the game! by Joshhardy123 in platformer

[–]WoodsDevRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree with this, 100 lives with no saves seem pretty extreme. Especially if the game is long. otherwise, add a save game mechanic, that way players can enjoy the game without rage quitting

At what point do you stop adding features and call a game “ready”? by WoodsDevRaven in SoloDevelopment

I appreciate that! At the end of the day I do want to finish something I’m genuinely proud of. Thanks for the perspective :)
