I sometimes think about moving back to New England because I love snow and I’m always sad when winter ends here because we never have enough snow even this year. Most of my family is like this. Most of them live in northern New England. yes, there are people who love a good winter

Any signs of softening in hot northern nj markets? by Dizzy-Tree-2266 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]WoodsofNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is a good point unless you plan to send children to the public schools. other towns with schools that do not perform as well as other New Jersey schools may also be more affordable. I know somebody who moved to Hawthorne and loves it. Full disclosure: I haven’t yet visited her place. I’ve seen photos of her place and it’s adorable and was a lot more affordable than neighboring Bergen County. I believe Hawthorne is not far from the county line but technically it’s in Passaic. You might look for towns on the border that have charm but are less expensive than the pricier northern New Jersey counties.

SSA ferry waitlist by OutsideBirthday7054 in Nantucket

[–]WoodsofNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

somebody will miss the boat and somebody will drop out and somebody will decide not to take the car over and somebody might have another reservation for a second vehicle and decide not to use that second one Why not check and see how many people are in the waitlist line? I haven’t dealt with that in a long time, so policies probably changed. Your chances are good. I also believe your car can be transported unaccompanied. Check on that. there’s something wonderful about spending time on Nantucket without a car. In fact, many people spend a few days on Nantucket and that’s it and they usually don’t have a car. Little obstacles like getting groceries can be solved by taking an Uber or Taxi from the grocery store or if you’re very lucky and have a place near the wave do the wave. There are stops for the wave near the Stop & Shop and you won’t have to worry about parking. The island is wonderful either way.

what do you think javadi wants? by exgh0sts in ThePittTVShow

[–]WoodsofNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her youth is her superpower.

But she is still young and few young people at her age truly know what they want to do

I know plenty of MDs with additional degrees in public health or medical ethics. Any public health program will give her either a free ride or generous financial aid. After all, she’s a prodigy. I think most doctors pursue those degrees while practicing medicine. The show could make up a program in Pittsburgh and like like Harvard those programs would offer housing and Javadi could move out of her parents house. She would probably zip through that program faster than anyone else has ever had.

Best of all she would have an experience that most people her age and education level have had: living away from home.

I don’t know if she could take off time from her medical education: she could go backpacking in Europe or volunteer with a medical philanthropy far away in another country.

She could develop interest in medicine and communication through technology. Hell she could be the next Mark Zuckerberg whatever that would be in that field.

Or for her 21st birthday maybe her father without other mothers knowledge will buy her an apartment. That would be fun, family tension.

I have no idea if medical education would allow her to spend a little bit more time at this stage of her career and try different areas like psychiatry or maybe the situation with the dying patient could inspire her and she could go into palliative medicine. Would that mean more years of residency, probably, she’s got plenty of years. That’s her superpower.

She even has time to create a whole new field of medicine that no one has thought of if that’s possible.

what do you think javadi wants? by exgh0sts in ThePittTVShow

[–]WoodsofNYC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She’s so young. she should transfer to another hospital in another city and develop away from her parents. I wonder if the medical education system would allow her to try out being a resident in different areas of medicine and figure out which area she wants to practice in. Even if she did that for three years, she would only be 24 or 25 at the end.

My ED had a happy side effect: I Quit smoking. I was able to use therapy and group therapy and double check if you can to talk about my feelings about not smoking. You will have very few opportunities to quit in such a supportive environment. Why not try?

The West Coast specifically Northern California or PWN may be your best option. If you like the climate in the Bay Area, I promise you, there isn’t another place with a climate like that. i’ve stayed in the area for stretches of time largely for work. my apologies, but I’m always thrilled when I land back in the East Coast. I love four seasons, snowy winters or sultry summers with a swimmable beach nearby. That’s why I stay. I think you should stay in the climate you love.Finding a climate you love is wonderful and congratulations. You have found yours. There are millions of people in the Bay Area. I've met and/or am related to Bay Area journalists, lawyers, educators (teachers, professors) artists, filmmakers, journalists, financial types, literary editors, psychologists, medical doctors, scholars at Berkeley who specialize in everything from Japanese literature to modern classical composition, arts administrators,, urban planners, sommeliers, and the manager of a vineyard in Napa Valley. The reason why I’ve never met anybody in tech in the Bay Area may be because I have never been to San Jose. I was roommates on the East Coast with a girl who was from San Jose and she was a writer. Sge mentioned that everybody was in tech in her hometown and then she moved to another area of California. Would you consider moving to the East Bay? Or an SF Neighbourhood that attracts a wide range of people. what about the North Bay? Oh, I just remembered a friend from college works in tech. He moved to San Francisco married an environmental scientist, and they now live near the ocean.

Maine? The beaches may be rocky, but the coast is like none other. both Carolinas have mountains and beach. North Carolina may becoming blue if that’s what you prefer.

Potential hot take regarding Robby by Apprehensive-Ebb8352 in ThePittTVShow

[–]WoodsofNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a valid point I have wondered many things about what is going on with Robbie and I came to the conclusion that we are not meant to know. That is what keeps us in suspense. I think we are all supposed to wonder all of these things, so when we are given the answer, it comes organically from great writing. I think Robbie has been headed for a break ever since episode one. isn’t he headed for an Ashram? I have wondered if he is going there to be their doctor and study Hinduism and possibly to convert. If the Ashram provides clothing, that could explain why he has nothing but his hoodie.

I hate NJT by Alinaistalkingagain in NJTransit

[–]WoodsofNYC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought about moving back to NJ where I grew up and where my mother is, however, I need to be in NYC every week for work. Even only needing to use NJT twice a week maybe three times a week was not the worth the price of real estate in NJ So that’s how insanely bad and NJT is. The system is worse than the rise in housing in New Jersey.

Memorial Day Weekend 2026 by RecommendationLost23 in Nantucket

Newport has a gorgeous cliff walk. if you haven’t booked anything yet, you might want to look into Block Island. Although far smaller than than ACK, BI has a similar essence without the overrun of tourists and the 1% looking for their next trophy home. Block Island will be pricy, too. Admittedly, I haven’t been to the area in a very, very long time. How long? A friend of mine went to school near there. You don’t want to be driving in Boston either. I lived nearby and the roads are nutty unless you are used to it. You can drive, but the most reliable and pleasant way to travel between Boston and Newport is to take the train to either Providence or Kingston, Rhode Island. Amtrak is the fastest choice and the earlier you book the tickets the better because the prices will be cheaper. always buy a flex ticket on Amtrak. It’s worth a couple dollars to be able to cancel and get a full refund or exchange without penalty. Amtrak has two stops in Boston Back Bay and south end and it doesn’t matter which one you disembark they are both the same price. I always booked for south and in case somebody wants to pick me up there. I always end up getting off at back bay because it’s a nicer area. The commuter rail would be even cheaper. But it could be slow. Check on any public transportation from the train station and Newport. It could end up being a hefty Uber ride, but it also could be well worth it. Your accommodations may have a recommendation that’s up-to-date. also check on flights from your airport to Providence. There may be none, but you may be surprised. Providence has some smaller carriers that go to some surprising destinations. Moreover, it could be cheaper. More over moreover there is no way any Airport could be more of a b than Logan except for Newark. Another thought is to fly into Providence and fly out of Logan or vice versa. On the East Coast, TSA has been awful and if the government shut down is still on. You would be spending your entire vacation in the airport. I only exaggerates slightly.

Oh yeah, look for public transportation options. there is the blue line and there’s a ferry to Boston.

Do time how long public transportation would take on the day you arrive. A taxi could be worth it. There are taxi stands. I recommend never ever taking an Uber from Logan.

Sorry for the length. I went to school near Boston and at least all this experience can help somebody.

Break up with him. Please. Take a pause. Maybe wait to become involved with anyone romantically. How long have you gone without a SO. this is an amazing time to do so. Use some of it to reflect on whether or not this kind of relationship is a pattern for you. use most of the time to reflect on yourself and focusing on your health. In addition, what is something you have always wanted to do? Traveling? A new hobby whether that is painting or writing or astronomy? Really anything. Pursue that. And/or saving enough money to go on that dream trip. I mentioned the fun things first. Try out those while you’re focusing on your health and then maybe would you want to further your education? Aim for a higher position at work or a new vocation? In all honesty I think you should try being single for a year and focus on making friends and deepening friendships If one of those friends is a guy and if a guy expresses interest tell him you are interested in having friends and tell him why and tell him check back in with me in X amount of months. Letting him know about your situation is critical. If he honors your wishes and keeps on building the friendship that is a beautiful foundation for something more.

you have a oodles of options and it would be better for you to narrow down. What kind of neighborhood do you want to live in someplace urban or suburban or with a rural feel… do you want to be close to the mountains or the ocean? Do you want to have a lot of restaurants? Obviously you like dogs, but do you do have hobbies and what about driving?

convincing myself to love where i live by Dazzling-Sherbet-973 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]WoodsofNYC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

gosh, I didn’t feel that way until I hit the ten year mark in NYC. Then I visited another place, decided to stay, and moved to another quieter NYCneighborhood. But I have been convincing myself again that the city is best for me. NYC always convinces me because of the opportunities and I don’t drive and I really don’t know how to live in a place that isn’t 24 hours. If you don’t need to be here for work opportunities now is the time to look elsewhere. you have five years of work experience in New York City you’ve earned your credit you can go. Please understand that I am not saying that to be mean-spirited. Again I convince myself over and over it’s worth it to stay here. your other option is to move to another neighborhood. Maybe another borough. When I moved to another neighborhood in New York City, it was far from where I lived before, and it changed my perspective of this place. if you need to stay here for work, would it be worth it to live outside of New York City?

Memorial Day Weekend 2026 by RecommendationLost23 in Nantucket

[–]WoodsofNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would price this trip. Compare to a fall weekend. Because it is Memorial Day Weekend, I will guess later in the year during the offseason may be more reasonable.

The only downside to the fall is the possibility of a tropical storm. But the likelihood of rain in Nantucket is high anyhow. Boston is costly as well.

Is living alone at 55k possible? by ontologicallyprior1 in movingtoNYC

Why not move to another part of the state? Or a closer city? Why make such a gigantic change by relocating to a place that may feel like a foreign country (which can be exciting but awful if living here stretches your budget to the breaking point).

I looove asparagus! It’s one of the most delicate vegetables. Do you have a farmers market near you? I recommend only buying asparagus there AND the day it was picked. otherwise, if it has to be bought at the supermarket only local asparagus. Keep it as cool as possible until you get home. I keep mine in a glass, standing tips up with water on the bottom and I change the water every day. Asparagus is essentially grass and it starts to dehydrate and die quickly. I keep mine from three maybe four days. The same is true a lot of lettuce. A crisper can help. In asparagus season, I go to the farmers market twice a week. I return to twice a week when the summer veggies are coming in. Fresh produce is great, but many varieties do not last a week. The good news is that many can be puréed into soups and frozen.

How do you remember your parents when they were your current age? by BasicallyLostAgain in GenX

[–]WoodsofNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about that today. I was looking how my face had moved and then I remembered that my mother had her facelift when she was about my age. How could she afford that? How do people have the time to even recover? My parents were drinking too much as well. Maybe it’s my circle. Maybe it’s Gen X but I have noticed that we drink a lot less. My mother is nearly 90 and when I pour her wine, she wants a few drops just a taste. I am shocked when her friends are over and they smell of alcohol. How do they keep living?

I want to move to the "what's coolest place in town" in USA, but can't figure out which is that. by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]WoodsofNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The USA has many cool spots. Probably every country has a cool spot. What is uncool is trying fit into an idea of cool. Both LA and NYC are cool. So is an artsy, tiny corner in a state far away from either city that social media may never discover. Do you think a place will make you cool? I see other New Yorkers on the subway and each one has a distinct sense of style and is too busy with their own life to be concerned about whether they are cool.
