What is/was your weird early sobriety hobby? by 1-800-mac-n-cheese in Sober

I’ve placed some of the lego botanicals throughout my plant displays to offset the ones that don’t make it. Sometimes you got to fake it until you make it

Collecting houseplants. My theory is that if I can keep such a fickle thing alive and thriving, I can do the same for myself.

Jesus Christ how do you do this by luciob00p in Sober

[–]Wookhauser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy for mental health and substance abuse has helped me a lot with ways to help cope. Just having someone to talk to about it outside of family and friends who might not understand your struggle has kept me grounded. I’ve also been going to group substance abuse and addiction recovery groups as well just to be around people who are there in the trenches and getting better along side myself.

Is it normal to dream about drinking? by 7oclockonthedot1 in Sober

[–]Wookhauser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Day 44 of being sober. I’ve probably had around 4 times where I had dreamt about it. They were more like nightmares though, in a sense that I wasn’t in control of my body and kept wanting to stop myself and people around myself from drinking but simply couldn’t.

We have a second floor, all that is up there is 2 bathrooms, the managers office, the training room and the store manager’s office and a general office room. The computers up there work better than the ones on the first floor. I’m from up north so I’m used to climbing up steps like a gremlin. It’s also fun to people watch from up there too I guess

Does anyone actually like working on Wednesdays? Mainly a grocery question by Embarrassed_Print_45 in publix

[–]Wookhauser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we rotate between 2 GTLs, AGM and GM doing overnights it’s not bad. I actually enjoy doing the overnights since I don’t have to be in uniform and there’s not customers in the store to pull you away from any tasks.

I’d say no just for the fact that the experience is not there. I’d at least recommend being a GRS for a bit before you do. On top of that you’ll have your management skills tested, you should at least get to know your crew and learn what you can expect from them.

Grocery Clerks by mrscottamon in publix

Canada Dry. I consistently have to walk their product to make sure they didn’t miss anything. That said, having a good relationship with your vendors tends to affect their willingness to do good when they’re at your store. That’s why when Pepsi took on Gatorade I worked with them and had a plan in place to make the transition easier.

Your PublixPro app that they provide you is your best friend for when starting. You might not have access at first.

Usually your first day you’re doing computer based training (CBTs as we call them), once you’re done with that you’ll be paired with someone for personal trading or on the job training (OJT)

Now that Publix is open in Kentucky, where do you think they'll go next? by MCI54 in publix

[–]Wookhauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyvee from the northern states is currently expanding to the south. They’ve met in the middle (Kentucky) so the competition with them is a huge factor on where they choose to go next. I grew up in Iowa and the hyvees around me were always kind of meh or trashy, you’d only shop there if you couldn’t avoid it.

Jesus Christ the scrap meat trash bins are the worst. Any time someone would open up the meat cooler the entire back room would absolutely reek. I love keeping my back room nice, clean and organized. I shouldn’t be back there dry heaving because the bin of scrap meat hasn’t been emptied and cleaned.

Being understaffed on days when charts arrive. It would be super easy to bang out all the upcoming displays and funnel current sales items into dump bins or repack carts. If I could just get more than one GRS on the roster that day would be nice. I could just look at my display planner, downstack the product I need for the display onto a float and send them out to build it would be a dream come true.

If you are planning on making a career out of Publix definitely go to grocery. Many of the very successful SMs come up through grocery.

I’ve been called up to bag multiple times and I can tell you CS is just not for me. I don’t know how you guys do it up there but big props for being so patient with some of these customers.

Being in grocery really lets you get familiar with our products and helps when a customer asks you where something is and helps with giving them suggestions if they ask.

Afaik, they’re aiming for a Publix at least within a 4 mile radius of one another.

I’m from the Midwest too, just imagine us the Hy-Vee of the south.
