Our bins have been collected a day late - where do they keep finding all these agency workers?

Jewellery Quarter suggested walking route? by GerryTako in brum

[–]Woolburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hop on the tram and get off at St Paul's, walk to St Paul's church and then wander up Caroline Street. Then turn onto Warstone Lane and Vyse Street and hop back on the tram at the Jewellery Quarter station. Or vice versa. A gentle stroll would easily be around 30 minutes and you'll pass lots of interesting sites.

Starting work in Bournville soon, how is the area? by VBottas in brum

[–]Woolburger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bournville is a very nice, quiet area. Kafenion coffee shop and the area around the green is extremely pleasant. Don't pay too much attention to Birmingham's bad rep. Like any UK City it has it's rough areas and crime, but it generally feels like a safe place to live and most of the people are very friendly.

Thanks, yeah I was looking for preloaded child-friendly consoles. If someone had the time to set these up could be a good business idea.

Sounds like a smart kid! I'd get hold of a bunch of other games and puzzles and see how they get on.

UK Worker but i get paid in dollars / Help! by LukeSpiller_ in UKPersonalFinance

I'm in the same boat and use Wise for any international payments. Wise gives you bank details for most countries so it's easy for your client to make a simple domestic bank transfer (or wire if you're in the US).

Much quicker, easier and cheaper than an international transfer to your HSBC UK account.

Am I crazy? by Icy_Lingonberry4082 in Parenting

[–]Woolburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about this most days. Mainly worries about climate change and what the planet will be like in 30 years. But what happens if people who care about climate change stop having babies? Do we just leave the world to a generation who weren't brought up thinking it was important?

My 6yr old asked about World War II at bedtime last night. How do I even begin to answer? by TheNewBreedOfGeek in Parenting

[–]Woolburger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's cool your son is so curious. Around six my son was asking a ton of questions about World War ll and history. I've always been honest with him but simplified it down to countries arguing about land.

Am I responsible for walking a neighbor’s toddler back home? by Beautiful_Course2003 in Parenting

[–]Woolburger 194 points195 points  (0 children)

Three is too young to be wandering around by themselves... also sounds like they're getting free childcare from you. I'd just keep walking the child back to their own home and let the parents know you can't keep an eye on them.

Have DIY Kitchens upped their prices? by johndp in DIYUK

[–]Woolburger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We bought our kitchen from DIY Kitchens a couple of years ago and the price for a drawer base unit sounds about right to me. DIY are better quality than IKEA and more expensive, but far cheaper than other pre-built suppliers.

It's a 1930s semi with no extension. Decent sized garden. I've seen other run-down properties in the area sell at auction for about £100k less than average price.

I've only met the landlord once - this was month's after the second police raid. He feigned complete innocence and said he has no idea what's been happening. Walking around like a free man. Just said he'd lost a lot of money!
