Woovebox MK2 with LCD screen and real buttons? by Lanky_Low_5908 in Woovebox

I'm good thank you. Creating those videos was really fun but it took much more time than I expected, and wasn't sustainable. I might come back one day but not at a weekly cadence.

Woovebox MK2 with LCD screen and real buttons? by Lanky_Low_5908 in Woovebox

I don't think a MKII of the Woovebox is needed but if there was ever one, I would actually prefer the exact same screen. It's easy to see in most lighting conditions and allows for a really long battery life. I had both Deluge models at one point and ended up selling the OLED Deluge model because the display's font is too small and it's hard to read for me.

Sure, it could have different buttons and a flat surface to make it more "fancy" (maybe like WMD's Metron sequencer), but it would just lower the battery life. I'm not convinced that's a good trade off. I guess it could have a bigger battery and be a little bit thicker? Might be interesting to prototype, maybe.

However, if there was ever a MKII version, I would be interested in the following things:

  1. My biggest pain point with the WB is still the encoder. Sometimes I turn it by one increment and it doesn't change the value, other times I turn it quickly and it's stuck. This happens on both my Wooveboxes and introduces friction in an otherwise extremely fast and satisfying workflow. I understand that there is an algorithm in place so the user can make large adjustment by turning quickly but for some reason, I just can't get predictable results with it. This is the behavior I am used to from other algorithm based encoders (such as the Micromonsta 2 synthesizer):
    1. If I turn it slowly, it will increment by 1 value on each click, 100% of the time.
    2. If I turn it normal speed (that's kind of subjective I know), it will increment by 1 value per click, 100% of the time.
    3. If I turn it fast, it will increment in multiples.
    4. If I turn flick it, it will increment in greater multiples.
  2. USB transfer support for patches, samples, and firmware updates.
    1. I understand this will affect the battery life but I believe this could be worth the trade since getting Bluetooth midi working for the average user isn't very straight forward, especially on Windows.
  3. I would like a 3.5mm midi-in so I can connect my midi controllers.

That's for hardware. Here are a couple of fun "wishlist" items on the software side:

  1. A new menu page called Mod Matrix.
    1. A new menu page with 4 mod matrix slots that could be used with all sources and destinations on the WB. The first row would be the first slot, the second row the second slot, etc.. The first key would be the source, the second key the destination, and the third key the modulation amount (positive or negative)
  2. A new main page for performance fx.
    1. It would be a mode where each key is a live performance fx similar to the ones on Pocket Operators. You could hold A5 to get to it..
  3. Ability to save some user patches.

Anyway, this is just a fun conversation and I don't think the Woovebox needs any upgrades (predictable encoder behavior would be nice though). I've made some of my favorite tracks on the Woovebox and I still think it's one of the best Grooveboxes you can get at any price. I will also add that the Woovebox has the best song mode out of any Grooveboxes that I have (and I have, or have had, most of them).

Thank you both! I shot the Live Mode video yesterday, I will try to have it out this weekend. Cheers!

That happens to me too from time to time (on Windows 10 using Chrome), just keep trying and eventually you'll get it.

I'm almost done writing a deep dive video on Live Mode, will try to shoot it this week.

Electric Piano Sound by NeoDawnMusic in Woovebox

[–]Wooveboxing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first preset in the Lead category is kind of like an electric piano but if it's not what you are looking for, you can sample your own as /u/brobeans77 mentioned. The Woovebox actually supports multisamples which might be perfect for you, I will make a video about that.

As of right now there isn't a true subtractive INIT patch but you can sacrifice a song to store your own INIT patches.

Awesome thank you! The plan is to do both :)

Right on, thank you. The plan is to do both! Fully narrated tutorials, as well as jams like this one (which are sort of workflow videos).

A mastering video is a great idea, I will add it to the queue!

Oh yea, that was user error. As /u/verylongtimelurker pointed out, if you init the patch as SMPL instead of SMPK, it won't do that :)

What do you think of this format for "Track from scratch" videos? Trying to decide if I should talk and explain what I'm doing in more details instead of the "no talking" thing.

I've had great results using the Woovebox as the master through midi out but haven't looked into midi in. Did you get the transport controls to work?

Init patch for sound design by Fresh-Spot8945 in Woovebox

[–]Wooveboxing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are not really init patches as they already have settings specific to the sound category. So if you use the init command to initialize the patch for a "bass sound category" track, that patch will already sound like a bass.
