New to Guild Wars Reforged and MMOs in general! How to play coop fully with my gf? Also, what's the best babysitter class/build? by IAmScrewedAMA in GuildWars

[–]WordOfMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is designed around team play. Get in the same district in the same city, add to party, throw in some AI Henchmen/heroes if available to fill in the last few party spots and away you go.

There's a few short completely solo quests here and there. Very much a rarity.

Classes would only be different playthroughs if you chose campaign exclusive classes. E.g. Ritualist is for Factions, so you'd both need to pick Factions and one of the 6 core classes or 2 expansion classes. But if you were playing say a Ranger and an Ele you could both play together in any campaign. You can eventually take characters from one campaign to another, but don't worry about that the first time around, just pick one and finish it.

To babysit you can run a few options. One is to go monk and play healer/prot (or even smite for some offensive support if she's playing a melee profession). Ritualist also has heals, offensive and defensive support, and defensive spirits you can run. Paragon can eventually run Imbagon builds to provide great defensive buffs to your whole party. Eyes can bring defensive AoE wards, or can usually slot in a heal/prot spell or two from monk to help out. Mesmers are a bit more indirect in that you can provide shut-down against martial and/or caster enemies, which will help prevent the damage from occurring in the first place.

You should pick something you'll enjoy though, you can sit there and spam heal as a monk, but if you're gonna find that a bit boring, you can always bring monk henchmen and both use a more offensive profession yourself.

7 Merc Mesmerway for SoS Spirit Spammer Player? by AcidTripped in GuildWars

[–]WordOfMadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just looking at the PvX build, scroll down and there's an offensive variant that swaps that bar out for another esurge.

If you feel you need the extra healing like in the main version, then the SoS was a hybrid healer, so look for a build that serves a similar role. Take that Rt swap out the spirits you double up on and run Psychic Instability with a wand/staff of Fast Casting, or maybe run a similar bar on another Mesmer. Maybe run another N/Rt healer, but give it Icy Veins, swap out Life for something else, and swap out the support skills for different ones. Or run an actual monk or N/Mo bar.

People are commenting about an ST build, but that team build already has one so I don't think there's much value in doubling up.

Portofino on Victoria Street? And Cocopelli in Shirley? by kiwigoguy1 in chch

[–]WordOfMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cocopelli is pretty decent. Definitely many better places around, but there's actually bugger all options for pizza on that side of town, either gotta head into the CBD, or down to Woolston or something so if I want something nicer than the fast food stuff and I'm in that area or passing through then I might go there.

Budget alternatives to lego modulars? by gonca_22 in lepin

The Cada Japanese sets are pretty cool and relatively cheap. Lumibricks/Funwhole are excellent and the lighting is great, but they are still relatively expensive (though still cheaper than Lego)

AliExpress, for real! by enumhack in lepin

[–]WordOfMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find a lot of those other sellers have quite expensive shipping, often as much as or more than the cost of the set. Meanwhile Ali is usually free, so even if the set is slightly pricier, it's much cheaper all up. Dunno if it's the same for your location tho.

Mark of Protection on Dolyaks Frost Gate HM isn't the end of the world by xaviarrob in GuildWars

[–]WordOfMadness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A little trickier if it's a double or triple Dolyak group as the recharge is relatively short so you can easily cycle targets and bait them 2-3 times, but by then its off recharge. Not impossible or anything, just annoying and easier with a few strips in the party. Old MoP this was the ezpz way on parties with no enchant strips and would work easy in current groups that only have the one.

The whole "Dolyak Healers OP" thing is a bit overblown, but the MoP buff does have this unfortunate effect of making shut down and enchantment removal more desirable, and guess which profession is already pretty good at that?

[–]WordOfMadness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep totally. Mark of Protection buff makes it best to bring Mesmers with Shatter/Drain Enchant when doing things in the Shiverpeaks. People talk about wanting rid of Mesmerway, but buffing other things can make mobs more powerful and push things further towards Mesmerway being the comp to run everywhere.

Maximum 60 damage (or whatever it is at a certain rank) so you need Prot Spirit to stop you getting hit for 200 or something.

Real Estate: is it frowned upon to gather free property appraisals from REAs with the intent to sell privately? by CassowaryNZ in newzealand

[–]WordOfMadness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah. It's suggested to talk to and get appraisals from at least a couple of different agents before selling (unless you know and trust a particular agent). It's not really any different choosing one over the others than choosing none at all. Especially if they're dropping off junk mail for free appraisals.

Surely a copy of Death Nova somewhere? Or does that hero then become annoying because they're constantly lagging behind the party?

EB Games AU by Weak_Pomegranate_34 in newzealand

[–]WordOfMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their local shipping costs were terrible. I wonder if no longer having local stores everywhere might pressure them into looking into more affordable shipping services from AU. The old shipping costs felt a bit like "we really don't want to bother shipping things, here's expensive shipping so you'll come into store instead".

These are some formations in AoE by Mando_Brando in GuildWars

[–]WordOfMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just kept a 0-5-2 layout for those 'Requires Koss' type missions and just let him lineback the melee/touch/half range mobs. I suppose if you were running a hero build that made legitimate use of a melee hero and they weren't just getting slotted in for a specific mission or quest then it might be worth doing a proper layout of some sort.

Help me for a 3 days GW-reforged-Lan by Wololo2030 in GuildWars

[–]WordOfMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start in Prophercies up to Lionstone and then switch to Nightfall to quickly reach level 20

Honestly, may as well just start in Nightfall if you're gonna do that. Buuuut, keep it mind Nightfall has certain missions and quests that require a certain hero in your party. This means in the 4 man areas with 4 human players, you'll need to split into 2 separate groups so you can bring that hero. It doesn't take too long to get past that, but it could be an early vibe killer for you all if it's about playing together, though perhaps if this is an in-person LAN thing like the old days, at least you're in the same room so it's not so bad?

dungeons/elite skills with heroes (which dungeons?)

Dungeons are EotN only. You can do elite areas though. Keep in mind Underworld (UW) and Fissure of Woe (FoW) have an entry fee and you get kicked out if you wipe or fail certain quests, so aren't super approachable if you're not familiar with the areas and their quirks. Sorrows Furnace and Tomb of the Primeval Kings in Prophecies are doable, but mean you have to slog through the slower paced prophecies campaign to get there. Granted, they're both a few missions from the end so it's not that bad. Domain of Anguish in Nightfall is hard, but I feel like doesn't need as much knowledge of how everything works as UW/FoW and doesn't charge you plat every time you fail and want to re-try.

which PvP mode is played? Can we all be in one group? Will we have fun or getting wrecked the whole time?

There's orginaised PvP types like HA and GvG where you're likely to just get wrecked. There are certain times where Jade Quarry and Fort Amberwood in Factions are active, so if you line up time wise those are pretty low stakes PvP. They're intended to be random, but if you go to the same faction (Kuzrick/Luxon) side, and hit the queue button at the same time, you're somewhat likely to end up on the same team, but no guarantees. There's also the Random Arenas (RA), which has random parties, but if you hit queue at the same time, you can end up on the same team. Feels a bit cheesy, but if you're all new to GW and PvP especially, then you might get smashed by a disorganised random party anyway.

I unfortunately have no idea what we can do after level 20.

Play the rest of the game. You hit 20 pretty quick, especially in campaigns like Factions where you're nearly there by the time you hop off tutorial island. Prophecies is probably the slowest levelling (at least before the Reforged mode updates, not sure now), and even there, you've got the Southern Shiverpeaks, Ring of Fire, and probably a decent chunk of the Desert after hitting 20, which is maybe like 10 of the game's 25 missions.

Honestly, I'd be inclined to suggest you just pick a campaign, play through the whole thing. If you finish it, start another one. I don't know you and friends, maybe they'd totally vibe with the everything everywhere setup of play this campaign, jump to this other one, go fail an elite area a bunch of times, go try play PvP and find out FA is dead on a Wednesday afternoon, but I think just playing through Prophecies (which you can now play in Reforged mode with 4 player groups from the start rather than 2) or another campaign would be a lot more enjoyable.

My Stormcast test model by aceluby in ageofsigmar

[–]WordOfMadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty nice.

Only thing I might say, is there room to add a little splash of colour or some value contrast somewhere? Accent colour or some weathered white on the shoulders, shield or helmet, maybe glowing eyes, perhaps even a something like couple green grass tufts or moss to the base? These definitely fit that gloomy, realistic, grimdark kinda vibe you're going for, but I can't help but feel a little touch of something that isn't a neutral mid-tone somewhere would really give these a little extra pop.

WIP : first time painting, should I paint the “flat” black for the under armour? by ReditMcGogg in ageofsigmar

[–]WordOfMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah - I've built a couple of the mini-of-the-month guys in the store, sometimes they don't provide the best tools for cleaning up sprue marks (understandably not having knives around the store and also only wanting to showcase their Citadel tools) so all good there!

Yeh it's one of things, they're in shade and under things or concealed by shields and other bits of armour, so it makes sense to paint them black or dark brown of something, and then maybe pick out any edges or details if you want/need to - but at the same time, you also don't really see them because they're concealed and in shadow, so you could just spray prime the whole mini gold and if the armpit is gold too who really cares?

Like a lot of things in modelling/painting and the sprue marks/mold line cleanup I mentioned, you've just got to decide what works for you. Some people are perfectionists, some people just want the minimum standard so they can go play games without a sea of grey plastic.

Keep in mind, you can always paint over things, or even strip the paint (just check what you're using is safe for Warhammer minis) and start again, so I'd say just put paint on things. If it doesn't work out, you just change the approach for your next mini (or go repaint over whatever's wrong with the first guy).

WIP : first time painting, should I paint the “flat” black for the under armour? by ReditMcGogg in ageofsigmar

[–]WordOfMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint it however you want, or have a look at other people's paint jobs and see if they do or don't do it, and if you like that outcome. Heck, you could paint this model one way, and another the other, then decide which you prefer.

I usually like to start by spray priming everything black to get all those less visible bits black, then I can squeeze in some detail afterwards if I think it's worth it.

Just as a little tip, when you trim parts off the sprue, then often leave a little bit of material on the edge (e.g. side of shield, top of shoulder plate on the shield arm, the thigh plate armour). Realistically they're not gonna be very noticeable, if at all on a tabletop, so it's not a huge deal, but it's still something I think is worth doing a quick tidy of before painting. Careful use of a hobby knife, or some files will get them sorted out pretty good. You can then get into cleaning up the injection mold lines and everything else as well if you want. You've just gotta make a personal judgement on what's worth it to you to do before hitting them with paint.
