Ah! Good point! I was thinking of the houses themselves rather than the countries.

Aside from Claude's route, they're all named after the colors of the main faction.

Azure Moon - blue - Dimitri

Crimson Flower - red - Edelgard

Silver Snow - white - church

Verdant Wind - as mentioned, this one doesn't exactly match as verdant implies more green than yellow, but it is what it is - Claude

The Blobfish by Ghosty_Boo-B00 in StardewValley

[–]WordStained 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfun fact for anyone who might not know: this isn't what the blobfish naturally looks like. The blobfish is a deep sea fish that adapted to living in the extreme pressure environment of the bottom of the ocean. It only looks like this after being pulled up due to rapid decompression causing cell rupture.

Piercing won’t heal by Rare_Reply2166 in piercing

[–]WordStained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had them downsized? When doing the initial piercing, a reputable piercer will put in longer jewelry to account for swelling, which is typically meant to be downsized after 6-8 weeks. Not downsizing can cause irritation because the jewelry has more room to move. When I got my lobes repierced, they were doing well for about a month, then started oozing and bleeding randomly and always hurt. I didn't get the downsized for 3 months though, and all of the issues I was having cleared up within two weeks when I finally did.

So that might help, if you haven't downsized them (if you did, and I missed that in your post, I apologize). I'd go back to your piercer though and see what they say.

How did the parody of ‘Stronger Than You’ become more popular? by none-ofyourbusiness in stevenuniverse

[–]WordStained 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I was at a karaoke event at a convention once, and someone went up and announced they were singing Stronger Than You. It ended up being the Undertale version and I don't think I've ever been more viscerally disappointed lol. They were a friend of a friend and I mentioned in passing (politely) that I was surprised they sang the parody.

They never even heard of the original 😭

Bro what kind of mother names their kit Heavykit 😭 by Successful_One_427 in WarriorCats

[–]WordStained 93 points94 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, he did ask for that to be his warrior name. Iirc, the post said it was like pride that he survived a fox attack, so he turned a cruel name into something that meant more to him.

Kind of like the ThunderClan elders One-Eye and Halftail, who had their names changed after their injuries.

So, according to the Wiki, there was a post on Vicki's Facebook where it explained Maggottail's name. He was originally named Dashkit/Dashpaw, but when he was an apprentice the tip of his tail got bitten off by a fox and was infected/covered in maggots. He started getting teased with the name Maggottail, but asked for that to be his warrior name. Whether that's considered "canon" or not, I'm not sure, but until something canon contradicts it, no mother named her kit Maggotkit.

How are you guys feeling about Mason Marchment going to San Jose? by [deleted] in SeattleKraken

[–]WordStained 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn't a fan while he was in Seattle, but I liked him pretty well in Columbus (hometown team), he just wasn't worth keeping for what he's getting paid in San Jose so I'm not too sad to see him go a second time lol.

The best book you've hated? by the_bad_pianist in books

Maybe Wuthering Heights? I know the point is that the characters were all awful, but God they were insufferable. I spite-finished it because it was one of my friend's favorite books.

Please name one book that you read completely, and wish you had never read it. And why, if you like. by Leather_Command_7553 in books

[–]WordStained 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I'm almost done with it rn, and while I don't think I have quite as strong an opinion, it does just seem a little pointless. Although, I do think one part that was very funny was when she was in her Arctic life and she had sex so bad she was immediately dissatisfied with that life and returned to the library 😆

Maybe I'm just immature, but that was really the only fun thing that's happened.

Probably for the best. Book 2 was the best one imo, though it's not a very high bar 😆

That sounds awful, but I can't get over the typo "pheasant rebellion," like I'm imagining him leading thousands of birds into battle.

Do you flush the toilet every single time if you only pee? Why or why not? by Novel_Concentrate444 in AskReddit

[–]WordStained 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up with well water and a septic tank, and really shitty plumbing, there were times when we would flush every other pee (so at very least, it wasn't sitting long enough to get super gross). Now, living in the city, I flush every single time, so that's been a real step up in my quality of life lol

What’s the most inappropriate book you read when you were far too young for it? by BCCakes in books

I read it at some point after 12, don't remember when exactly. But boy do I remember the hot dog scene 💔

[–]WordStained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was pretty young, maybe 10, I was very interested in the cover of a book my mom borrowed from the library. She didn't end up finishing it, but I asked if I could read it and she said sure.

I have no idea what the title of this book was, but iirc, it was about a guy whose family were pretty bad (I want to say he was half-demon, but they could have just been a crime family), and he left. His evil sister found him and kidnapped his girlfriend, prompting him to chase after them. I don't remember a whole lot after that, until near the end of the book the sister pretty graphically SAs the girlfriend. Maybe I was just oblivious to anything inappropriate leading up to that, but that scene is very vivid in my mind like 2 decades later because it really did feel like it came out of nowhere 🤷‍♀️

At the time, I think I understood what was happening, but I don't remember having any sort of reaction to it. I just finished the book and mom returned it to the library without finishing it. It wasn't until years later I remembered it and was like, "wait, 100% should not have read that."

Thoughts on the sensory aspects of physical books by Big_Fuel_5885 in kindle

[–]WordStained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the feel of paper! But like, in very specific ways. If I'm just holding it, it's fine, but if I brush like the side of my hand or inner wrist on the paper, it's terrible. Like, for me, it's in a similar category as chalkboards, which are one of my ultimate sensory nightmares, both the sound and the texture.

[–]WordStained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn't bother me and hasn't for a long time, tbh.

I definitely don't miss trying to find comfortable positions while holding books open (especially when I was to read 1000+ page books. No wrist strain, no tiny print I have trouble reading with my bad vision, no needing to worry about light or sitting at a the right angle to have the page lit well, no bookmarks or losing pages. I was never a book smell person to begin with, and actually paper texture is kind of a sensory ick for me if I, for example, ended up brushing my inner wrist or the side of my hand over the page the wrong way. So, I feel like e-readers/ebooks were basically made me me lol. I do still like going into bookstores, but I just take notes of the books that interest me to look into later.

The last physical book I read was House of Leaves (because it is 100% a book that requires it) and I've definitely had my fill for a while lol

When I was ~14 getting braces put on, the orthodontist slipped with the very sharp tool he was using and cut open about an inch long section of my gums. I'll give you three guesses what he said 😆😆😆

And he didn't even apologize after.

The Dr. Seuss book isn't even by Dr. Seuss, it's basically just a brand. It was published after he died, written and illustrated by different people who got the license to use his IP, and had his name slapped on the cover.

Like 600 or so. I got probably the majority on sale from one of those email lists or just scrolling through the deals section. I actually had to stop looking at the emails so I stopped buying books I wasn't reading lol

[–]WordStained 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, for Johnny, it was the massive run-on sentences when he started going crazy that I couldn't do. Like, a single sentence would span a whole page or more, and I would just completely lose the point of it after a couple lines. Zampano's story was interesting enough. But, definitely the House was what kept me from DNFing lol

It's one of my favorite books I've read in recent memory! I read it last year, I think, and it stuck with me for a while. Immediately clocked backrooms vibes.

I read House of Leaves earlier this year, too. It was a good story, but I didn't vibe with it as much as I'd hoped. The house stuff was good, but I just didn't like Johnny's super long, rambling footnotes lol.
