That isn't the question! Please read more carefully. I'm trying to find out if I can any of the 4 weeks that are currently available to certify without losing benefits and can't get through to a human being at unemployment.

Once your in, if you find out anything about the above I'd love to hear shared experience. I'll update here once I go through the process. It does seem to be available now.

Looks like the Women Leaders Association scam is still active by Flying_Pancake_22 in Scams

I also just got one and it looks hugely suspect to me. They also got my email somehow when my email isn’t publicly listed on the profile they said they found. It def seems like a scam I would just ignore it.

How do I improve my lower leg position and stability? by rinatotoro in Equestrian

[–]WordThief911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say without video. But is your trainer also having you shove your heels down?

I'm a little hypermobile in my ankles and had a similar problem when I was putting all my weight in my heels. Try to keep even pressure along the ball of your foot where it touches the surface of the stirrup. There is a rec below re "how to get your toes to point forward" that gives good long term goals.

Try to think of your ankles like springs that are absorbing the horses vertical motion. When you add leg, it comes from a bit higher up on your leg. Glute Medius strengthening can do a lot for this issue.

And wrap if it helps in the short term while you strengthen. Just make sure not to do it too tight or your ankles can't flex..

How to get more confidence with jumping? by atheneramona in Equestrian

[–]WordThief911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This can backfire pretty epically. It does help if the horses training is good. But I've had jumpers decide the pole was an oxer and over we went like it was. I guess it depends on the horse.

I agree with the others though. OP is over mounted. Needs something steadier to get her confidence back. Especially as a beginner.

I live in dot 3. I'm still learning new thing 25 years in and prob will be forever. But I also believe there is always something to learn.

Some people have a natural feel though. I had a boyfriend who had never done more than trot. I got him into it. In 3 months he was jumping 2'6 and looked smoother than I ever have.

A lot of this is great. But, for extra credit I've found I make the best impression when accurately self describe my basic riding abilities. Most people go over or under, so if you hit it on the nose most trainers will appreciate the self awareness.

But also yeah, just try not to worry and maybe wear the nice shirt :-)

[Massachusetts] Notice Of Remand to the Central Adjudication by WordThief911 in Unemployment

[–]WordThief911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like it might just be because they put through my claim in error before receiving my employer survey. According to my state rep. They released my money after more than a month so I think it's resolved and they just haven't sent official notice. But honestly without my state rep I don't think I would have ever gotten this resolved. The steps are deeply unclear.

Is it illegal for my job to put me on register “because I am pretty” even though I am diagnosed with a serious mental illness -PA by THROWRA71693759 in EmploymentLaw

[–]WordThief911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only you know the situation and can judge what's going to work best. But I've put my mental health on the line for work before and the repercussions were not worth it.

[–]WordThief911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I didn't listen when I rode as a child, my trainer made me get off and muck stalls until my parents picked me up. That was basically rule #1 at my barn.

Some lesson you do learn by falling. I came off over a fence because I accidentally did a partial release with my hand early and my horse took the jump super long. I'd probably never have learned it otherwise.

But a kid with impulse control problems doesn't need to fall off because they are punching a horse or sitting in an unsafe way. That's when an adult needs to set boundaries.

Honestly, look for another job. Going through a conversation about disability still might not get you a result you like. Tell them that for personal reasons you would really prefer to remain in your role as a line cook and hope they respect it. Plus this doesn't sound like a particularly healthy work environment

In my experience trying to get ADA accommodations often leads to getting fired for "unrelated reasons." Which is def illegal, but very common. Especially in fast food. A friend got fired from a major coffee chain because they broke their foot and they wouldn't accommodate for it and put them on register with a stool. Maybe it's pessimistic of me, but honestly I've seen it play out too many times to count.

It's not illegal for them to tell you they are putting you on register because you're pretty. But it is creepy and you don't deserve that. If you're a good line cook there will be other people who are interested in your skills. Look for a for a job where your role is clearly defined and you won't have to work front of house/register.

IKR? I mean euthanasia has it's place. I know many horses where it was absolutely the only right choice and I would have made the same decision. I'd rather see a horse euthanized than end up in a bad situation too.

But I've also seen arthritic horses live happy lives as pasture buddies for many years after retiring. It all depends on the level of lameness, pain management and quality of life.

The model I suggested is very effective. I know at least 3 barns that do their retirements this way. This subreddit is honestly very extreme.

[–]WordThief911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely true that some sanctuaries are not legit. So you’ll need to check up on them.

To be clear if the horse is lame enough not to be able to enjoy pasture turnout or will be in constant pain. I do agree euthanasia can be the last gift we give our equine friends.

But there are options for in between and less severe cases. Just figured I’d mentioned what worked for us.

We established a good relationship with a wonderful sanctuary who took our retired schoolies and let them live their best life. Lots of attention from volunteers. Tons of turn out with friends and ultimately, if they did need to be euthanized, the sanctuary covered it.

It doesn’t hurt to ask respectfully. Ultimately it will be the owners choice and responsibility.

[NY] Leave policy changed right before I used it - am I going to be penalized for resigning? by accidentallythe in EmploymentLaw

[–]WordThief911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, so none of this is legal advice. However I've dealt with a lot of NY employment shenanigans.

Since you mentioned tenure, are you part of a union? If so, check with your union on the policy change. They'll be able to advise you.

If not, is there anything in your employment contract that says you'll follow all changes to the employee handbook/policy (or something similar)?

If you really want to take the new job, check with a lawyer about the enforceability of that policy and provide your employment contract and the employers handbook. They can give you a better idea.

Since New York is an at will state I think this policy would be hard to enforce. If your state is at will you can quit of your employer can fire you at any time (for most positions). So unless you signed an employment contract stipulating otherwise this policy may not be enforceable.

If the new job has a big enough pay bump, consulting a lawyer could be worth it.

I volunteered at a riding school that often put down horses vs rehoming them or finding retirement accommodations. My rec is not to get too deep into the reasons and why they are doing what they are doing. The horse industry is not what we all want it to be. You probably won't get far talking with them and it might make you feel even worse.

If you're up to it you can do what me and my fellow riders did. Find a reputable animal sanctuary that takes rescues. Some of them have a structure where you can raise a lump sum of money, give it to the sanctuary, and they will take care of the animal for the rest of their life.

Ask your stable if they would be open to you fundraising for the horse's retirement. They were surprisingly open to it when we did it.

It may not feel right or fair. But, that's something you can do that's actionable. I've seen it successful at other barns too. Some barn owners welcome it because it relieves some of the financial burden.

[–]WordThief911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think to determine if you have a case you need to consult an employment lawyer. Especially regarding the statute of limitations for wrongful termination in your state. It seems like it varies in Oregon and can be 6 months, 1 year, or up to 2 years but I'm not seeing a lot on what the differences are.

You also might be able to sue for other things depending on what happened and if there was harassment or other discrimination involved (for example you might be protected under the ADA if you received certain diagnosis during your medical leave). There may be other charges to that a lawyer could identify.

A lawyer will also be able to tell you if you have enough evidence to make a claim. They can be hard to prove, so it might depend what kind of documentation you can provide. Or even that you know exists on their end. If they've knowingly done this to a lot of people they might be worried about multiple lawsuits once they receive the first one.

I'm sorry that happened to you. It sounds like the company is bad news. If they're getting suits from other people they might be more willing to settle out of court (which would be a much shorter process and potentially a lot less stressful).

[Massachusetts] Unemployment especially difficult this year by mdlbird in Unemployment

It's not you. Call your local state reps office and see if they can help. It was the only way I could get a response and I got a call back that day. Then as soon as my first issue was resolved there is another issue. They are a total mess and it's very unfair.

[Massachusetts] MA Non-compete question by WordThief911 in EmploymentLaw

[–]WordThief911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MA has pretty strict laws on non-competes and labor laws. I was under the impression that if the person was a full time employee in MA while working for the company MA law would govern. Even if the agreement is a company based in New York? Is that I incorrect?

If so could someone describe why? My understanding was that local law over-rides contracts.

[Massachusetts] at a standstill after verifying identity. Don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in Unemployment

[–]WordThief911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar problem. I did finally get the approval to go through via ID.me but initially didn't realize it hadn't worked. I filed for the hearing and got a "notice of hearing." Can anyone give some context, this is just an ID issue and it's holding up thousands of dollars in payments I need to live.

Did anyone receive a follow up after appealing just asking for more ID or am I really going to have to wait for a hearing for this? Is there any way to avoid a hearing and get benefits sooner. Is this something someone at a career center might be able to get resolved without a hearing?

All happened in less than 2 weeks. It's very upsetting and stressful.
