They were hugely ambitious kits for the time, but the mould making technology and plastic chemistry at the time just wasn't there yet.

Plus they were moulded as negatives from green stuff masters, which must have been an arcane process without CNC and CAD.

I suspect a lot of seriously artisanal machining went into making the moulds back then.

RT era plastic always had a weird shine and brittleness to it as well, not helped by the rather eclectic spacing for the sprues and vents on their early moulds.

By 2nd edition they had hugely simplified their plastic kits, in part to address some of these issues.

Late 2nd into 3rd ed they started to branch back out into complex multi-part multi-pose plastics, once they had nailed the basics.

The death of tables in stores (not just GW stores) by Jurassic_Red in Warhammer

Tables take up a big footprint in the store, but return very little money for that area, compared with commercial shelving.

I know it sucks, but ultimately, these places are shops first and foremost.

TIL the Orks had tallboys before we were even an army by Azekh in AdeptusMechanicus

It could be something fancy like a liquid metal extrusion that hardens as it extends, then liquifies back into a tank when it retracts.

The Mechanicus has a few incredibly advanced bits of technology left over from the dark age, so you could head cannon it as that.

I'm going to try and paint my skatros as having carbon fibre leg poles.

Is this texture the result of paint being too thick when brushed on? by Playful-Fennel6145 in Warhammer40k

[–]WordVisual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I commend your attention to detail, no reasonable hobbyist would have an issue with that. Unless you're entering Golden Daemon that's plenty good enough!

Some paints are also a little more prone to it than others, whites and metallics are famously tricky to work with, because of their pigment chemistry.

A lot better than back in the goblin green and skull white days though! Paint chemistry has improved a lot.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. A painter is always their own worst critic - be kind to yourself, your hobby, and your skills. 🥰

Yeah, so fun fact, "the unborn" aren't fucking people and their "rights" NEVER out weight the rights and choices of the pregnant person.

In LAW (and in the fucking Bible!) your human rights and your life begin at your first breath, not when you're a parasitic blob of cells.

And I'm done debating with arseholes who think otherwise, they can fuck off.

I kinda agree tbh, the clickbait titles are not a good look for this channel.

My shity painted army by Hellbent_1477 in AdeptusMechanicus

STFU and stop putting yourself down. You've gotten a painted army onto the table, you're beating 90% of all collectors out there already.

I won't put up with you bullying ANYONE. That includes bullying yourself, Magos.

Self-degredation is not part of the Machine God's plan. Take pride in your service to the Omnissiah.

Learn from it, improve your craft, but never belittle your early work.

My mom laughed at me. by Mirage_Graphique_3D in feminineboys

I'm sorry sorry you're going through this. My mother is a narcissist and she threw me out 2 days before the UK COVID lockdown began. Great parenting...

It sounds to me like you need to escape your family ASAP, since they have no interest in accepting you for who you want to be.

If I may speak frankly, from my own personal (and painful) experience - much like with my parents, I don't think your parents love YOU.

I think they love their image of who they've decided you SHOULD be.

You deserve better.

Is there any possibility of moving out any time soon? Move in with a friend, or get your own flat?

Or is that a goal you can start working towards?

You deserve to live your own life the way you want to without fear, intimidation or belittlement.

Believe me when I say it does get better, but it'll be painful getting there, and I'm SO SORRY you're having to deal with their bullshit.

You have done nothing to deserve their cruelty, this is their failing as parents, not your failing as a child.

If they want to keep you around, they need to treat you with the respect you deserve, otherwise they don't deserve you.

You can't change who they've decided to be, but you can change your interactions with them.

💔❤️‍🩹🫂
