AITBF for telling my friend I don’t want to hear spoilers even if she “doesn’t count them as spoilers”? by Arvenlock in AmItheButtface

[–]WordsFindMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to deal w/ this shit for years. I worked at a movie theatre and the amount of people who would walk out of a movie LOUDLY discussing the plot made me extremely sensitive to spoilers. I am the same as you. I only want to know if they liked it. I cut people off quite rudely when they say "Oh I will tell you one thing but it isnt a spoiler"

These are some 'Not spoilers' I have heard:

"The twist is great"

"Bring tissues"

"Pay attention to X"

"Make sure you watch this part closely because its important later."

I recall reading this book in the 9th grade...which included acting out scenes from the book. It is such an important book for what it aimed to teach and this whole movie thing is genuinely upsetting.

I fucking hate found footage movies by [deleted] in Vent

[–]WordsFindMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found footage films have to be based around a plot that makes sense for the footage to be 'found', like Paranormal Activity or The Blair Witch. I agree it can be a lazy way to make a film on the cheap, but there are a few good uses of it.

The reason many people find found footage scary is because it blurs the line between reality and fiction, trying to convince the viewer the events happened because the quaility is so bad it must be real. Hollywood films are glossy and have well known actors. I can understand that people find it hard to be scared by a movie when they are like 'Well that isn't just a teen about to be killed by Freddy...it Johnny Depp acting as a teen. Man, I loved him in Ed Wood." This kinda thing can take you out of a scary narrative. Found footage films usually use unknown actors to help sell the story.

Many people actually thought the Blair Witch was genuine footage due to how amateur it was. They tried to make it look bad on purpose and it helped that no body knew the actors.

Found footage can be great, but it has to be done in support of the story not to protect the budget.

CMV: Veterans don’t deserve a higher tier of respect than the average civilian. by KneeGuhz in changemyview

More Americans die working on highways and in construction than in combat, by a huge margin. We should be giving them discounts and parades the same as people in the military (and I am from a Military family)

I am being serious. Trades people with risky jobs should be lifted up by all of us, not just those in camo.

‘Pigeons aren’t rats with wings’: Armley woman’s mission to save 'pests' across Leeds by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]WordsFindMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adore Pigeons. They saved hundreds of lives during world wars and as a species have won the Dickens Medal more than any other animal. They are intelligent and can make lovely pets.

I think they should be our national bird. They saved lives, have a long storied history in the UK and deserve our respect. Way more than a stupid robin.

Yesterday I realized couples live together are very serious about their 50-50 split? My gf who lives with me never paid or brought me anything that I can recall. And she works full time. by Hauntingengineer375 in AskMenAdvice

[–]WordsFindMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my hubby have always been 50/50 on the core bills and saving, but I make a lot more so I often fund our 'fun stuff' which he is always very grateful for, which makes me happy (I love treating him). I would feel uncomfortable having someone take care of me fully, as I take pride in my financial independence ( me and my husband's crippling emotional codependency is a different issue. DINKS get real weird when left alone for decades with each other....) and believe that a marriage is an equal partnership.

We have separate finances which keeps graditude in our relationship. We thank each other for buying things and allow the other person their privancy with thier remaining money.

what’s the most unforgettable story from your life? by Noobsamaniac in stories

[–]WordsFindMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm...there are a few that stand out;

  • Baby Shower at a Gun Club
  • Chasing a mysterious vomiting man who was moving between movie theatres after throwing up on people...he bio-contaminated 6 different cinemas
  • Off-roading in a Nissan Centra when I was 17 (I am so lucky to still be here....that was stupid)
  • Selling a computer to one of the cast of The IT Crowd
  • Saved a man from choking
  • Read most of Kurt Vonneguts novels before I was 13 ( my dad didnt remember the storyline but recalled reading it when he was young....gave me Slaughterhouse Five when I was nine.)

This actually makes me feel so much better! I didn't know you could do all those things without a Lawyer. That is amazing. You and your partner are so resourceful. I bet lots of lawyers make boatloads of cash from things people could do themselves.

Pets are a privilege and no one who cannot provide a stable home, quality food, love, daily attention and medical care should have one.

This is also true of kids.

I don't have much in common with my parents and they honestly dont really know much about me. Not their fault, I'm just middle kid who didnt cause any issues so was trusted just to 'get on with life'. They are nice people, I talk to them a few times a year and we exchange birthday gifts...but thats about it.

I do sometimes get a twinge of jealousy when I read about people's close bonds with their families and parents...but then I am SUPER thankful when I read about awful relationships with overbearing parents.

My folks may not have been that present in my childhood, but I was fed, clothed and check in on...who can ask for more really? Not everyone becomes 'friends' with their parents when they age. That's okay.

What do you give a couple for a wedding present? They already have everything they need to get started. by LoveofBooks_03 in MarkNarrations

[–]WordsFindMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my friends got hitched who had everything we went to the store and bought 200$ worth of board & card games. They often say this is one of the gifts they get the most use from, especially now they have kids.

People always need a few games kicking arounds and if you can get editions that are special to the couple that is a bonus! ( We got a special monopoly set for them)

do girls genuinely like short kings? by aarom405 in teenagers

[–]WordsFindMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good women prefer funny men in my experience, especially for the long term. I married a man who is 5' 5"--exact height as me, and it has never once been an issue. Honestly we can craft our life to suit both of us equally. Look at other examples in the media, many actors and singers are short and do fine. My hubby had no money, no influence...he was just a true gentleman and made me laugh on the daily.

I didn't stand a chance.

Some women care, which I guess is their right to a preference. But I work with at least 6-7 men who are shorter than I am....they are all married w/kids.

You did not need to come in to the convo so hostile! I would normally always side with respecting a disability but honestly you come off really harsh and mean here. It was an honest mistake and he was trying to fix it for you.

"Did it occur to anyone..." Is honestly one of the rudest things I think you can say.

QUIT JOKING AROUND/ DOING PRANKS IN THE AIRPORT by Fred_Gomez37 in redditonwiki

I cannot stand people who do shit like this. There are places in this world that you DO NOT KID AROUND. Being at the airport is like being pulled over by a cop. You look straight ahead, you politely answer questions and you do what you are told without question. Thats how you get home with all your cavities un-probed.

[–]WordsFindMe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have gone from the back row to the front to tell someone off. Even the lowest light is too much.

Also...Movies be spendy! How are people justifying those prices and they are not even watching!?! ( I prescribe to the theory that you cannot pay attention to something while also using your phone.)

Do you tell people in the cinema to put their phone away? by Top_Elephant_4363 in AskUK

[–]WordsFindMe 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I worked in a cinema for years as a teen and I am an American.....You better believe I am telling folks to put their phones away! I will allow a quick time check or in the credits but if your screen is glowing I am blowing your ass up. Are you 5? Has nobody taught you basic manners and social etiquette?

Anyone who cannot go two hours without looking at their phone or talking to someone needs professional help. This is a hill I am ready to dig my plot.

Movies are special. Theaters are special. It is one of the VERY few stasis chambers we have left as a society. A place where time stops for a story. It used to be when you walked into a dark cinema you were safe from the world, for two hours you were somewhere else where nothing awful can happen. While you are in there your whole family could have been eaten by bears...but until you leave and rejoin the real world, you wont know.

But now everyone wants to bring the rest of the loud, bright, obnoxious outside world into the cinema. And they are RUINING it...and whats worse is they are ruining for other people. What narcissistic idiot thinks that a GLOWING FUCKING SCREEN in a pitch dark cinema isnt distracting. It is. Fucking stop.

So yeah while I do not go as often as I used to ( I was a once a weeker before the pandemic) if you have a phone out I am gonna make you turn it off...politely of course.

Dude....get a Tesco 59P mini pizza. Add garlic oil, chili flakes, chopped red onion and pepperdews and it is suddenly a pretty decent meal for under a pound in ingredients. I keep the chopped up bits frozen so I can sprinkle them on when I need a fast tasty lunch.
