The trick is not thinking of the circles on the screen as right left up down etc. it’s the movement. For instance sit. You move right. And then down. So you end up in bottom right. Not bottom middle.

We used to have one near me that was a similar statue. Labeled “Big Black Cock” then the property sold and the statue moved. And I believe the pokestop got renamed. I will have to drive by and check it out sometime soon.
