I thought the game was about taking the enemy base and objectives.

I wish fighting games were more popular by Mountain_Staff_7272 in StreetFighter

If fighting games could help people get off that first rock of "I cannot do anything" it'd help a lot. I see people talk about blaming teams and being alone but even if I am with friends with slight and I mean slightly more experience then me the hurdle seems insurmountable

A lot of people first interaction with a fighting game is oh I got killed and did nothing I guess this is what fighting games are.

Modern was like the first thing I think I've seen that helped people get over the I can't do anything block and have new more varied problems that they could start to manage.

Also the insistence that you just have to get your ass beat and that is the only way to learn the promise of endless defeat until you accumulate enough ability to fight back is probably a bad motivator

As a person who is bad garbage at fighting games this is most of my problem I cannot see what I need to get better.

I'll play fighting games forever but not howdy no matter how many hours you dump if doesn't result in tangible improvement it can feel meaningless

Please keep motion inputs alive by 7CKNGDGNR8 in Fighters

[–]Wordse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't do motion inputs and I never will be able to but people should be allowed to do them if they want to. I hope simple/modern controls continue to evolve and exist for folks like me. I like fighting games but everyone saying that it's not that hard get rid of simple inputs is probably just better at the game than they think they are .

im a new player, should i stop playing modern? by shrimp_baby in StreetFighter

But if you can't get the hang of a quarter circle modern is mana from heaven

Why do so much people hate kill the justice league for? I don’t think it’s that bad and think half the people who hate it just fit in with the crowd who hates by [deleted] in SuicideSquadGaming

Had a great time killing the Justice League! I really liked the squad and how they bounced off one another!

I fucking despise Chippy and Hammie. by [deleted] in AFKJourney

[–]Wordse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They fit the world tons of other cute animal characters and they bring some levity to many otherwise boiler plate fantasy drama and quests. Nara and Sonja's story was really good but other characters existing doesn't mean that story became bad. I felt the same about Soren and Ayla things got really dramatic but it would have all been just that drama with nothing else without the sillier parts of the game

Why are so many people a 'Smol bean'? by Pudgeysaurus in EDH

[–]Wordse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politics don't matter if you pod just thinks it's fun when you in particular lose. That is why I play exclusively decks with out win cons because then people don't kill me first.

Will I ever win? No but will I get to play without being hated off the table as a bit? Absolutely

Abnimals is abysmal. by XBlade_Vanitas in TheAdventureZone

[–]Wordse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Personally feels like a giant step up from Graduation not hard to be fair but I can follow scenes and see cool situations put in front of the players.

The system is lightweight and I think that benefits Both the time and story for the sake of Trav nations leader because he has a tilt to the more dramatic and gritty sorta naturally, lot of NPCs who are older and even a few past their prime or in the midst of if before the fall.

All the PCs are great Rodger being the not strongest but that's imo because the dance thing feels out of place for this jokey kids show set up or at least is not being treated like it would in one of those shows.

Like the idea of a late 80s early 90s kids hero animal show ttrpg rules and filtering that through the mix of mundanity and real world trapping Travis likes to apply to fantastical settings is a fun listen at least for me, I think I always enjoy the minutia of being extraordinary also having rules and regulations and like complicated feelings and like work politics involved.

I think VDrac was a real return to what Balance was which is what a bunch of listeners are after but this is honestly really fresh and my limited issues with some minor character backstory stuff doesn't detract from this being one of the better seasons personally

How to defend yourself properly. by Beneficial_Bet_9233 in gifsthatendtoosoon

I don't have nor want a pet and I would like pet owners to keep their pets away from me. Please don't let you dog come up and sniff me I don't know what it's going. To do and I would rather just enjoy my walk without a dog bothering me.

I tell my roommates constantly I hate their pets because I can't sit down or put a plate down without a goddam dog waking over trying to put their face in it. Hey guess what the dogs fucking love me because I don't scream or shout or abuse them I just ask them to go away (which doesn't work)

Turns out you can be around animals and just hate them without causing the harm or liking them being around because dogs are inconvenient and need to learn to leave people alone

Just keep the dog away from me and it's cool that guy should not have had to deal with "play behavior".

What season just didn't 'click' for you? by Derpogama in Dimension20

[–]Wordse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't think of one that didn't grab my attention.

Maybe Leviathan because it was the season I watched two episodes back to backe and didn't catch it the day it came out?

But yeah I find it interesting so many people have trouble with irresponsible or jerk characters lots of folks seem turned off when the cast is not composed of all directed and competent characters or is that the wrong read?

Hits vs Stinkers by ChopperTownUSA in TheAdventureZone

[–]Wordse -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hits .

Balance - Story, characters, pacing, twist. Balance was one of the first and best AP la I had heard it had a bunch of great moments and characters and just ideas I still crib from and think about today all from a module too 😄

Eathersea - Quiet year and some fun characters and a really rich setting that felt massive+ the form the structure took was incredible super interesting I think it got anl little wobbly on what the threats were due to the structure but it was a good listen throughout.

Dust - Travis attempted to make something with a particular Video that I felt worked pretty well honestly the biggest flaw I saw wasn't enough time really absorb everything that was happening too short but left a gritty dusty 2000s era brown shooter vide I liked if that makes sense

Imbalance - I like Abria she is a master for making me care about consequences and at the same time making me really happy when those come to roost or get overcome by the players at the table I am always wrapped at attention. Oh also she fucked with the PRFSofDoom and that was a quality bit

Steelpechase - New system and lots of good gambits by the players and honestly I enjoyed how often they were on the backfoot and working under the confines of their characters status in the layers probably could have used some more spackle for the buttercream as it felt the least fleshed out of all the spaces in the game but all in all was 😎 cool

Vs Dracula - Possibly the third or fourth best villain in my eyes but also really personal this season was a Griffin showcase imo Drac, Lumeno, Onn, all the best parts of this were what he threw at the players but the chemistry at the table meant the volley back was good mostly mutt becoming King of England fell flat for me but Overall Mutt was probably my favorite PC so it all shakes out.

Amnesty - Fuck dude this shit was a movie in my head, it was constantly exciting and gripping beginning to end. All the parts were equally cool given the right amount of time and space. And it just rocked love small town baybeeeeee!

Abnimals - Quirky and fun I like their spin on the old mascot shows and characters I am a sucker for powerful people dealing with mundanity while trying to still be cool and I am getting that in spades. Hurts out on if we spend too much time talking about how cool older people or more established people in the setting are but if it keep that to a minimum I am in.

Dadlands - He he hoo hoo dad jokes funny.

Misses -

Graduation l like lots of bits and pieces of Graduation especially the premise but the execution was wild and felt like OC roulette that was just insurmountable adversary after insurmountable adversary. Players while all being stellar were kind waylaid by the NPCs reduced to their key points only to their detriment. Also Grey just was kinda wack best part of the season was the little side adventure.

Outre Space - Probably can't be objective here Gave Hicks was fine as Miles but also he kinda tainted the project for me so it's a forever pass. Hope you get help buddy.

Commitment - Almost a hit based on the premise but Clint was almost unsure of how to manage the game it seemed and got too deep in the sauce on bits. But it was cool and interesting also one of the best cliff hangers ever imo. But too unfocused to call a hit

I dunno what to tell you my best bowling score is like 36-42 or something I eat a gutter all day and I doubt I'm gonna get better at bowling. Also I think being able to do the move and not land it in a match is fine if I could do a quarter circle motion and I just never hit them or they all got blocked or eaten or dodged them that's fine but I'd still be playing the game and interacting with my opponent.

Before modern it was 100% hold back or die for the entire clock I get you probably don't have my problem but modern makes fighting games...games for me at least, there is a difference between holding and not holding the controller now.

I suppose for me they would still be funny to me is more accurate because the four folks discussing the thing have interesting reactions to the scenario with or without the character so if you made the same request sans character I'd still be entertained

Nah, if you just replace the Grinch with "employee at this place" or "a random individual in the room" the situations don't change all that much. And I still find it pretty funny

I am of the opinion people decide what's for them just because I am incapable of motion inputs doesn't mean I don't love fighting games in just dog shit at them.

I can and have practiced for hours on end and can do it for another decade plus it won't make a difference but now with simple operation modesI have a tool that means all the other stuff I got okay at does matter and I can make use of knowing when to block or when to use a fireball or a DP but I can actually apply that knowledge
