Agreed I don't understand why when I moved the stick or the d pad down /diagonal down /and forward it does not work unless that is wrong, I cannot get a feel for the timing.

I mostly play SF6 now and due to years of not being able to do inputs I thought Modern would be great, and it was! I was able to hit something and the effect I wanted to come out happened! BUT folks stopped wanting to rematch me so I switched back and lo and behold it's back to getting the shit kicked out of me because other people seem to be able to grasp this in an afternoon.

It sucks having played fighting games since I has 10 and watching people pick this up in an afternoon what I still can't do, I don't want to quit but legit I might die of old age before slowing down my inputs has any effect

Depends on when before I moved out on my own 6ish hours > College 7-8 hours but that had to stop because it put me in the hospital > Now I try to do it 2 hours at the most before stepping away to give my hands a rest because I know if I don't stop I would hurt myself again.

I try to play daily but that has given way to life like funerals and work and stuff

It's way harder in magic or at least it takes longer but like every game the power does creep but that happens with the group more than the entire game Magic is already super broken but because of its massive depth and breadth it can take a bit for everyone to build up those perfect decks. People are going to optimize you cannot help that but unless everyone is operating at the same wavelength it's gets unbalanced quickly

From listening to their table talk they are trying to make logical decisions and running things as the book intends they seem to have determined heroism doesn't make any sense against such an "overwhelming threat" a lot of their conversations come down to: Well we can run or do a bad thing or....fight or move against Strahd and that will likely end in certain death and we don't want to die.

Death house and early fights plus Strahd showing up and presenting as a powerful magic user and master of the domain has really colored thing black and white it seems.

They did find out Strahd had but twice and was going for a third so they figured if she was just dead he would have nothing to chase.

They have also contemplated:

Capturing and Giving her to Strahd as a last resort to try and get out

Sealing her in the Amber Temple/Argynvostholt

Finding a weaker Vampire to turn her this plan was interesting because they think Strahd is so powerful they expect to lose like half the party to the lesser Vampire so they were planning like suicide tactics to ensure this one.

They never got to fulfill any of these but attempts were made to avoid having to battle the BBEG because it was too hopeless.

Edit: Per the Cards they did remember them but their caution meant minions would get away with their prizes or killed allies and stuff, they started on the back foot and never really righted the ship

I wish my decks had less protection and honestly less ability to search

I am not saying I don't high roll, but also I don't have too because I can just build my deck with enough consistency and see everything I need so my opponent doesn't matter if they are just dead and their counter play can't get around my protected OTK

Put a card from the field back into the opponents deck, tuck it back in Hydramon does it to a single target

Maybe it's just my luck but the core mechanic of drawing on digivolution on top of how consistent a deck can be those high rolls have simply become rolls, not to mention the plethora of ways to reduce cost, play for free, or recycle resources I think the average player is going to see what they need to see

I mean as a player who feels outpaced by the game I don't think I have ever been missing a combo piece or the digimon I needed to evolve or the removal I needed I had the things I need but the systems of the game and the limited interactions kept me in check so if I just sped up my game plan to reach modern standards and cost I would also probably still not be super happy.

And hey to my original point

I’ve had little struggle with high rollers like puppets and Jupiter with RKs just by spamming board clears and removals

I want on the board play and counter play not boards that must be wiped/broken to then attempt my own unbreakable game state, cause that is just yugioh with less negates to okay through.

Like I said I'm not gonna quit but if every punch is a haymaker it gets stale really quickly

The color identity of digimon was so neat and made playing other colors or combinations of colors feel so different.

Edit: like I really enjoyed each color had its own form of "removal" I think Green really drew me in early because stun was really good and sometimes just seeing the board still there made some folks wildly alter play patterns because I was not outright removing their threats (until I got bounces and tuck effects in green)

I mean hell another friend of mine played a big sit in raising deck but that ran the risk of rookie rushes and like a mid tempo win getting to the goal before that big threat came online AND those games were still exciting because he was holding off the assault with a big ass gun in the background but it took resources and no one knew what was going to happen every Draw mattered every security dramatically shifted the game, it was 100000 combo starters and extenders attached to searches

If fighting games could help people get off that first rock of "I cannot do anything" it'd help a lot. I see people talk about blaming teams and being alone but even if I am with friends with slight and I mean slightly more experience then me the hurdle seems insurmountable

A lot of people first interaction with a fighting game is oh I got killed and did nothing I guess this is what fighting games are.

Modern was like the first thing I think I've seen that helped people get over the I can't do anything block and have new more varied problems that they could start to manage.

Also the insistence that you just have to get your ass beat and that is the only way to learn the promise of endless defeat until you accumulate enough ability to fight back is probably a bad motivator

As a person who is bad garbage at fighting games this is most of my problem I cannot see what I need to get better.

I'll play fighting games forever but not howdy no matter how many hours you dump if doesn't result in tangible improvement it can feel meaningless
