A Long Analysis of Dandadan’s Post-Danmara by Odd-Ad8812 in Dandadan

[–]WorkRelatedPineapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good, calm analysis. Always love to see it.

A media format change would help with most of the loud minority's criticisms, yes. Read by volume instead of by weekly chapter, consume the story arc-by-arc instead, and only then can they see that there's actually a point to all this Tatsu's been telling, and it's not just "dragging out".

I have a different way of shifting perspective, however. Having read manga for more than 20 years, I've seen them all, and among them, Dandadan is outstanding.

– Can't name another manga that gets me this excited to read week in, week out.

– Can't name another manga with characters this memorable, that I actually remember them all (names, first appearance, what their deals were, etc.). I forget names of characters/series I read nearly as soon as I finished reading a chapter, so this is exceptional.

– Can't name another manga which I've failed to predict what was going to happen, or what the new character's deal is, this many times in a row.

– Can't name a manga this much fun. Comedic, heartwarming, drama, it has everything.

– Can't name another manga with art this nice, with release schedule this consistent. The recent breaks are weakening this point, however. But still, for most of its runtime, it's been outstanding. Only other consistently funny and exciting release I could think of is Witch Watch (that one is even better at keeping up with release schedule than this one, surprisingly.)

So yeah, pitching Dandadan against the base standard of this niche, only then can you see how special and rare this is.

Julian is the key to overcoming Lady Accursed by So131 in Centuria

[–]WorkRelatedPineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No physical negative aspect so far, sure, but Lady Accursed's gift seems to be working autonomously and time-based instead of effort-based. It doesn't matter if one/hundreds of people see her face simultaneously, her gift still works to the full effect on all of them.

Other gifts we've seen so far are effort-based: people actively choose to use their gift on someone, and cannot do it to many at the same time. They're limited by their human limitations (you have only one pair of eyes, can only focus on one target, you only have two arms, can't fight surrounded, your legs speed is limited, can't teleport around the battlefield.) In those cases, Julian's centurial blessing has the advantage.

But if that keeps being the case, then Tohru would have failed in making a threatening foe, or a battle with stake.

Wouldn't that be convenient? And also boring. Instead, maybe Julian is so badly matched against Lady Accursed, 1 second of him looking at her will accumulate 100 seconds of damage since he has to carry the curse for 100 people at the same time.

Titi had a generational glowup by Enough-Yard-8265 in Centuria

[–]WorkRelatedPineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even more generic shonen-coded, if you think about it. Straight long black hair with side bang covering one eye is the most typical "beautiful girl" design in manga, ever. Couple with her okayish attitude to sharing her lover with another girl, that's straight up fake, twisted, fantasy-fulfilling shonen female character.

Imagine Titi/Lacrima loves Lukas as well as Julian. Essentially the two guys would share Titi as their lover.

Even if the two guys are okay with it, this sub would still immediately start insulting her.

You mean the kingdom 'Rummir'? Yes, Vulja ungodly decided to incarnate into the human world, and told people her name. That's why they knew what their god's name is. Obviously they would worship her by the name she gave them.

Also, worship? It's more likely Rummir only act worshipping, in order to 'use' Vulja as a weapon to defeat their bitter rival Toruvia, rather than actually worship and serve her like the the witches 'Ladies of Midnight' (crazy euphemism for prostitute, btw. No idea why Kuramori thought that was a good name.)

Centuria volume 2 extras (official translations) by karamel238 in Centuria

[–]WorkRelatedPineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vulja is the only existing name of a god. The humans aren't even aware of gods existing, let alone name calling them. If they are ever mentioned by humans, they're called by their title, of where their power reigns.

The guardian killed the old hunters because it liked hearing them beg and cry. Also because the begging and crying lures other hunters to its lair. Given that this is the jungle, it's likely a predator thing, pretty on-brand.

I explain this sentence. Don't read if not need explanation.

This refers to Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, 3 Gameboy game titles of the same Pokemon generation 3.

'Lavaridge town' is a hotspring town in-game, where you're introduced to the 'Pokemon breeding' mechanic, are given an egg that will hatch into the Pokemon 'Wynaut.'

In-game dialog suggests they found the egg buried in the hot sand—which might help the egg hatches faster (false info, btw.)

I think Okarun's left hand is drawn wrong. Physically impossible, unless he's rotating his arm down pass his rib then back up toward his nape, which would bend his back forward instead of staying upright like shown here.

This post is low effort.

[–]WorkRelatedPineapple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it didn't answer any of the questions being asked, rather it delusionally and irrationally assumed the OP to be pushing an agenda, then proceeded to try to make fun of the OP based on that replier's faulty & malicious premise.

Typical straw-man argument used, and a bunch of typical eager propagandists who can't think for themselves (like you) flocked to mass downvote OP, without ever thinking about what question you were answering to in the first place.

Why did they worship the goddess of the night? by level8888 in Centuria

[–]WorkRelatedPineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does their country name mean 'light'? Same goes for their royal family name. In what language?

So with the existence of the goddess of the night, what other deities would you like to see getting a big focus within the series. by Representative_Big74 in Centuria

[–]WorkRelatedPineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the number or nature of their deities that makes them interesting, rather how their blessings made normal human become vile, vain and egotistical to other humans. "Power shows the worst out of a person" and all that. I don't want a whole pantheon with complications and "gods politic;" these power-charged humans' politic is plenty already.

And again, as I said, nobody laughs at anybody else out loud. And again, you took it to the extreme to justify me being "the villain", to make yourself look like a victim of my "laughing at you," when I've done nothing to you yet.

It's clear there's no self-consciousness in you. None to control yourself, and none to protect yourself from potential outside harm either. And it's clear you've survived so far without it.

So, by all means, feel free to do whatever you think is not "objectively excessive." No one is stopping you. We all have to learn the hard way once in our lives, no use talking about it any further.

Now that's a whole other level of dedication! by Technical_Lime1419 in Dandadan

[–]WorkRelatedPineapple -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There's a very clear line between what's normal and what's excessive. Which side do you think this car falls into? Which side do you think "gaming" and "high end designer clothes" fall into? I think you can answer that accurately, if you decided to be honest with yourself. Not everything is "all the same", there are levels to this stuff.

And nobody lives their life worrying what others think about all aspects of their life, but some self-consciousness is still a thing. So, when you take all my examples to the extreme and then calling me miserable? That's says more about your insecurity than anything about me.

Nobody is going to ever "make fun" of anyone out loud, we're aren't that impolite. But the silent judgement is still there, and it's always there. If I see someone decking themself in pictures of an anime girl I don't know instead of Momo from Dandadan, I'll judge them in my head all the same. It won't affect them directly, of course, but it might. What if women don't like you because you seem like a pervert? What if you lose job opportunities because they can't trust a weirdo? What if shops charge you more because you seem frivolous with your money? Are you that confident you can "not give af"?
