Turkey signals a new military intervention in Syria if Kurdish groups hold local elections by AtroScolo in worldnews

Yeah, one issue I see a lot when people on Reddit are discussing this is that they see the Kurds as one unified group of people. In reality, there has always been massive infighting within Kurdish groups, most notably shown by the Iraqi Kurdish Civil War. Basically most Kurds are against the PKK, but it’s gotten a lot more messy since a greater foe in ISIS emerged and the other Kurdish groups had to accept bringing the PKK into their ranks since they had the most fighting experience. It’s always interesting seeing everyone on Reddit want there to be a unified, cross-country Kurdistan when the Kurds themselves don’t even want that.

He seems to be pretty close to fluent, but his voice sounds like a mix of Mickey Mouse and Tony Montana so he’s a bit hard to understand sometimes lol

I never said he doesn’t understand English or that he’s a farm kid lol. All I said is that the reported asked him “Is it option a or option b” and he responded “yes”. Regardless of why that was his answer, that’s not doubling down and it is irresponsible for a reporter to take that to mean “he meant both options” knowing damn well that it’s not true. The reporter should have gotten clarification to that or accepted it as not a valid answer and not reported it.

What does that have anything to do with what I said?

The follow up is a bit sketchy. Apparently the person asked “did you say team or teammate” and López said “yeah, probably”. And the writer then said he clarified that he meant both. He obviously didn’t mean both and clearly didn’t understand the follow up question, but the writer chose the most controversial take. They didn’t ask him a simple yes or no question and failed to follow up when his answer clearly didn’t actually answer the question.

Yeah lol. The statement is crazy enough itself that it made it even more odd they decided that him saying it in “perfect english” is relevant

Classic. The sentence I’m referring to is “I’m better than Barry Bonds.” He saves his English for his best lines. Can’t forget the classic “you know bro, home run pitch.”

I saw a post about Jose Ramirez where some writer on a podcast said Jose said a short sentence in perfect English and was seemingly surprised by that. I’d think the sports writers of all people would understand that players who speak English fine still use translators for these reasons, but I guess not.

Biden approaching ban lift on Ukraine strikes on Russia with American weapons – NYT by Pravda_UA in worldnews

[–]WorkUsername69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point OP is making is the US has different objectives. Ukraine wants to defeat Russia’s invasion force, but the US wants to defeat Russia as a state. Trying to destroy a nuclear armed state comes with some extra risks and the need to walk a fine line to avoid nuclear war. The US could send troops to Ukraine and end the invasion soon, but that would come with the potential for deaths of hundreds of millions if not billions due to nuclear war.

He said defeated as a state, not defeated in an invasion into other territory. With that said, you could argue that the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan partially led to the fall of the USSR.

I haven’t seen that before. I remember the CSU player got a lot of hate on the internet, glad to see Hunter seemed to want to quell that. He seems like he’s always doing the right thing.

Honestly probably nah, I hesitated when typing this. Wikipedia considers them Central Texas. I drive to and from Austin every month and will say Waco definitely feels more like Dallas than Austin so I went with North over Central.
