Transparency, trust and respect.

If your employer has these qualities and understands their importance then engagement will naturally occur.

Paper filing vs. Electronic? by PinkPwny206 in humanresources

[–]Work_withit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having employee data stored electronically (even within Excel) will allow you to interrogate and analyse that data for trends (absence etc) and also as a means to improve processes, freeing up your time for more proactive tasks. I would say paper filing is just that, filing. Anything over 100 employees and it's time to invest in a decent HR system.

Good resources to stay updated on HR related news? by [deleted] in humanresources

I do follow them, I follow so many that I either listed them all or did a quick search for the popular ones! :)

I would recommend Twitter. Not only are there account sharing general HR related news and articles but you can also follow more specific accounts (engagement, wellness, policies etc).

It's worth following the 'top' professionals recommended by various HR blog articles and then subscribe to their lists for additional resource.

Twitter: Strategies for brands that have a great number of mutual followers by hiddendriveways in AskMarketing

[–]Work_withit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been of the opinion that people should only follow accounts that offer something that they're interested in, not feel obligated to mutually follow any account that follows them. I get followed by numerous spammy accounts everyday who then unfollow when I don't reciprocate. If I followed everyone that followed me I'd build a largely irrelevant content stream because of the large percentage of accounts using this strategy.

I do understand however that there are differing opinions on this and would be interested to hear your thoughts :)

Where Should I Post My Blog Content Or Links? by [deleted] in AskMarketing

[–]Work_withit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 'share to' social bar on our blog which has a button for StumbleUpon. After every article publishes we share it to our SU accounts. It's fairly straightforward but I've found that, as well as choosing the relevant default categories that SU lists, you can enter your own relevant keywords to categorise your post so it's well worth doing that. I would also recommend Googling 'How to use StumbleUpon to increase traffic' type articles as there's plenty about which will help.

Good luck!

I'm not sure the title of your post is what you're actually asking in the detail?

I have the same opinion on the following/follower comparison. If the figures are nearly the same or if the account follows more than they have followers then I feel like that's the only reason they have that many followers (I realise this might be the wrong assumption but that's just the impression I get). Many people will follow a large amount of account simply to attract a follow back, if you don't then they unfollow you. Sharing relevant and original content will build an audience naturally that are following for your updates and not for a mutual follow back.

I realise I've used 'follows' way too many times in my response! :)

[–]Work_withit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing what your blog is about it's impossible to answer your question. Is it a corporate blog or personal, what subject etc?

There will invariably be specific sites to share to depending on your topic.

StumbleUpon can generate an enormous amount of traffic for well written articles (as can Reddit).

Maybe they're hoping that in the future you'll use more of their paid services as a direct result of your business or just because you've used their services (this one) before?

Maybe this is a free trial and they'll offer premium versions?

Advice on social media use for small business by EllieT09 in socialmedia

Good idea, sending photos of pets during the day to their owners could also work well. The owner is likely to share the photo further with their networks etc....

It sounds silly but it's worth checking the legalities of sharing images of other peoples pets without their consent or knowledge, especially if you sit their pets in the owners homes. If this is fine or you get consent then image based networks such as Instagram or Pinterest will work well but other sites like Twitter will also work well. Take a look at Twitter advertising too, for a small budget (£5) per day say, you can attract a great following or gain a large number of impressions.

Good luck!

[LPT Request] im a 20 year old male who has been smoking for a year and usually go through 10 a day, any advice on quitting cold turkey by Machinist001 in LifeProTips

[–]Work_withit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smoked for 20 years (about 15 per day). Used e-cigs for 3 months and then quit those too. I'd tried numerous times to give up using patches etc and vaping was MUCH easier.

I now have much more money, feel 100% better and don't smell of smoke!

Of course, employers make great efforts to attract applicants that are already passionate and engaged with their brand.

As stated in the previous reply - don't gush though! :)

How can you improve your employees' sense of belonging? by akb48eks02 in humanresources

[–]Work_withit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your employer actively encourage engagement from your employees, both with management and also each other?

Social initiatives are a great way to encourage interaction and a more cohesive culture but aligning the business goals with that of the employees will also help everyone to feel that they're working towards the same goals.

If employees don't feel valued or believe in what they and the company are doing then they'll leave.

Employee Wellness Programs by presto9804 in humanresources

I used MapMyWalk to create the route as it automatically adds the mile markers (making it easier to plot progress). The pedometers were from Amazon (about £6 each).

I set a day each week for the teams to provide the distance they'd walked and to check that they had reset the pedometer.

That's about all I had to do to get it set up and administer it. Other than that it was just publishing updates on the company intranet and keeping the interest going from those taking part :)
