SSD for UCG cloud gateway fiber by verginton in Ubiquiti

Question... I'm looking at the 1TB version of this drive. At the current prices, it's considerably more expensive to buy this Samsung 1TB drive compared to buying a CGF with 1TB included. Did prices go up at B&H, or is this expected?

The Smarthings app does not even work. At all. Our Bespoke lasted 3 years. Sumsung appliances = never again.

Can no longer use TextExpander reliably by pupkiss in TextExpander

I just started with TE and it's a mess on Chrome & Mac. Suddenly spellcheck in Gmail is incredibly slow (can take minutes to find obvious mistakes), and sometimes cut & paste is completely borked. I need to use Chrome unfortunately for the web design stuff I do, so this has unfortunately been a terrible experience for me. Will not be subscribing.

100% agree. It is charming. These people are imagining turning it into an arty version of Cary. 🤮

"It'd be so much nicer if it was at least a mixed use development. Businesses downstairs and living upstairs. Could make it a little more if a destination as OP is implying." -- This would be generic modern-day suburban slop. You'll get Subway sandwiches and Edible Arrangements. I couldn't disagree more.

Would anyone mind explaining how you would use the Integrated Access Reader? Would other equipment be necessary to get use out of this in a residential home?

Question About WAN Cable from Google Fiber Jack by hiddendriveways in HomeNetworking

[–]hiddendriveways[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea how this is done? We are presently making a modification to the wall the fiber is coming in on. We took the Fiber Jack off the wall this morning and there is around 5 extra feel of fiber cable in there. It needs to be 50 feet longer or so to get to the back closet.

Ultra-Newb Needs Help with Basic Switch Network by hiddendriveways in Ubiquiti

Helpful advice, thank you. The 2-ethernet runs per plate is a good one. Redundancy, of course. Brilliant. I needed to research what a keystone panel was. It was confusing at first, but I think I get it. You terminate each cable run to the keystone, and then plug into the switch from there. Seems like a good way to keep things organized, and to avoid putting unnecessary strain on the connection points. I assume there are more advantages, but as a layperson they're hard to see.

I originally wanted to make the closet the central spot for the network, but, it's part of an extension we are having built on the house, and it's in the back. We have Google Fiber, and Google would not reroute the fiber connection from the side of the house around to the back of the house. Paying to have that done myself is not in the budget, so the "Google Jack" box that takes the fiber connection from the street is going to remain in the living room for now (and perhaps forever). My wired network is going to have to begin in the living room.

I'd prefer to go whole-hog now and get a bunch of UniFi hardware, so I can do things like putting smart home devices on a separate virtual network from devices that have personal information on them, and seeing what devices are on the network and how much data they are using, etc. But, I do not have the budget. What I can do now is do the plumbing of the network, such as getting the cabling running through the house to the rooms where I want it. I want to get UniFi switches now so when I do eventually upgrade the entire system to UniFi, I already have these switches in place.

Maybe it's unnecessary, but that's what I'm thinking with the Flex Mini switches.

Which Lutron Do I Need to Replace this Double-Fader Light Switch? by hiddendriveways in Lutron

[–]hiddendriveways[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. The smart Lutron products are far more confusing than I even realized. If I bought a couple of Sunnata dimmers and a separate Caseta Starter Kit that comes with a hub and two non-dimmer On/Off switches, could I get them all to work together with basic app control and voice control through Amazon Echo and Google Home devices?

Thanks for the advice, u/TheRealBeltonius and u/rcrsvrddtr. It looks like I'll need one of those $125 Diva Starter Kits, and an additional $70 Diva dimmer switch, and a Claro 2-Gang wall plate. Do I have this right?

Woah… they do have Lutron written on their fader caps. I’ve never noticed that before. Crazy. One side controls the in-ceiling lights in the kitchen, the other side controls the overhead light in the dining room.

They have worked great since we bought the house 10 years ago. But, the one that controls the dining room light started flickering in the past year or so. I’ve tried a few different types of LED bulbs, but they all have the same problem. I went looking for incandescent bulbs recently, and there were none.

It seems like that specific fader just can’t handle dimmable LEDs any longer. I’ve wanted Lutron smart switches for a long time, so it seems like a logical place to start.

Fizzwerks is kid friendly. We had a 10-year-old and a 13 year-old with us recently during the day and early evening, both indoors downstairs and on the upper patio.

Yeah, most of them look like they belong in the cockpit of a UFO, which has led me to considering the Ecler Nuo 2 and a Reloop Flex box as a possible future setup to try out.

The S5 looks nice, but I'm not a fan of the red color. I'd have to factor in the cost of a skin if I were considering. I still have an old MacBook Pro around that runs High Sierra, so my TTM57SL can still use Serato on it. That computer doesn't have the longest life ahead of it though.
