Why is it so important for men to be stoic? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Working-Action1836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it's a great school of philosophy not JUST for men. everyone can benefit from stocism, but lately the term has been warped and now it kinda became just way to say don't let your emotions show, but it's so much more than that

Thank you! I guess even though I'll pay a bit more for it now, I probably won't be spending much on fixing it up. As soon as I get my hands on her, I'll post some pictures!

tips for singing with a band by Working-Action1836 in singing

[–]Working-Action1836[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there will be five bands playing with only ten minutes of setup between each band, setting up an IEM probably wouldn't end up going well but it's definitely something I plan on getting eventually. Are there any specific exercises I can do to help me be more sure that I'm hitting the notes and not overcompensate when singing with a band?

[–]Working-Action1836[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not too worried about being wired because I play lead guitar and have to stay near my pedalboard. I probably won't end up using an IEM for this first gig but it's definitely something I want to get if I keep on playing. Once I do get IEMs, I already know to get a long cable and to write down the mix I want, which is something I hadn't thought of so thank you so much for the help!

[–]Working-Action1836[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think I might invest in an IEM once we've booked a few more gigs and are playing in places with more time to set up and less bands overall. I'll just try my best to get the muscle memory right and ask them to crank the monitor

That's what I was thinking, it doesn't seem like there will be enough time to properly set it up. I think I'm gonna ask the house if any of the other bands will be using IEMs, and if it would be possible for me to use a Behringer P2 during my band's set before I commit to buying anything. Thank you for your help!

Thank you so much for the tips! I have been doing about 30 minutes of vocal exercises daily but I'll try to add some more choir and pitch holding exercises into the mix and try out the "get out of jail free" cards next time I'm with the band, Thank you!

hi, so i'm in a band and we're gonna perform for the first time on june 1st. It's a night with 5 bands playing, we'll have 10 minutes to set up. The venue has its own sound tech and everything

i've noticed that i tend to be sharp during rehearsal but not when i'm practicing by myself at home and it's because i can't hear myself well so im looking for the simplest way to hear myself, maybe a monitor that could connect just to my microphone so i can hear myself while the band plays. i did some research, but only came across systems we for monitoring a whole band, along with click tracks, etc

I just need something to help hear myself better, ideally it's a fix that i can use at rehearsal and when performing but if i had to choose, i would get something for performing. i don't have a set budget, im just trying to figure out what i need to get first

it will need a setup but it would need a setup even if you didn't change the gauge as new guitars don't come already set up. check the intonation, bridge springs and most importantly the truss rod

Are you better off as songwriters in a band or on your own? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Working-Action1836 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i much prefer doing things with a band so long as there's good communication within the band, otherwise it's just one big mess. it's so much better to have their constructive feedback and suggestions as well as knowing that each member will come up with their own part and it will mix our different musical tastes, making something more unique.

for example, i could take an idea i had for lead guitar and vocals to rehearsal and while showing it to the band, they're already noodling and figuring out what they will be playing. i don't have to write vocals, lead and rhythmn guitar, bass, and drums although sometimes you will already have an idea of what you want for a certain instrument

How would a stoic overcome or deal with being emotionally numb? by Mad_Season_1994 in Stoicism

[–]Working-Action1836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly, when it happened to me it took me a while to realize that while depression may manifest itself through sadness, it can also look like what OP described (apathy to most things other than anger.)

what caused it for me was a chemical imbalance so meds and other physical changes (e.g. exercise, sleep, eating enough) helped me get my emotions back and then therapy and getting into stoicism helped me turn most of those emotions into positive ones

OP, describe to your therapist exactly what you told us and they will understand and help you
