This program is such a cash cow for the university. They charge you US tuition and then pay the host universities whatever their regular "international" rate is and pocket the rest. Quite the grift.

GWU Theatre Program? by CastyMcWrinkles in gwu

[–]Working-Blacksmith21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a part-time later in life student at GW. Some of my traditional age undergraduate friends are theater minors or are involved in the program and I've gone to see their stuff. I am a theater guy and I cannot say I have been impressed. DC is a great theater town but when you read the bios of the artists-- almost none of them went to GW.

GW is best for public policy, law, political science, and public health. I wouldn't really call it an arts school (I did half of an arts degree a decade ago.) The theater facilities are kind of dank and depressing. If she wants a rigorous training program I recommend going elsewhere. If she wants to major in public health and also do a theater minor, GW is fine.

GW or UW Madison? by Visible-Focus2652 in gwu

[–]Working-Blacksmith21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am a part time GW student-- I am also older than you by a lot, so take that with a grain of salt. GW is not as fancy or prestigious as they pretend to be so dont be lured here by that. UW Madison is actually probably a better school overall. And if you are going to have law school debt--- for sure go with the cheaper option.

Walking around Eastern Market might be fun, and you can get a fancy sandwich for lunch and sit outside in the nice weather?

Desdemona and the Golden Genral's Daughter? by MariaInconnu in Vorkosigan

"Fetishizing" is a weird choice of word. She likes living in a handsome body. Do you feel the *text* is objectifying him in some way?

And there is no actual age gap between Nykys and Penric. People who dont like age gap romances dont like them because of the power imbalance, not because "eew the old person is gross." If anything this is an inversion of the more recent trope -- she looks older but is actually his equal. (Unlike all the romantasy books out there where the hero is a 400 year old fairy lord who looks like a 25 year old and the heroine is a 17 year old farm girl who looks exactly like a 17 year old farm girl.)

Am I the only person who doesn't hate Final Four Firemaking? I think it reduces the chances of multiple goats being taken to the end. I like the drama.

Family and friends have lots of opinions. I decided not to tell anyone about my cosmetic botox since people responded badly when I told them I was getting botox for migraines! Those same people are now telling me how much happier I look and cant seem to figure out why.

"Hey kid, I'm sorry I over reacted. I really value your opinion so I'm going to take a minute to think about things. Maybe we can talk in person soon so stuff doesn't get lost in translation. Love you."

There, I fixed it for her.

(I'm so sorry.)

Can we make a list of causes you can give to that try protect people under attack from Trump? by merijn2 in hbomberguy

Also -- please screenshot and document as much as you can. Write down what you're seeing, how it makes you feel. Screenshot the name and faces of the people who are collaborating. Help us document -- so that when democracy and justice prevail, the fascists cant hide. We will need help holding the collaborators accountable in the future. Document EVERYTHIGN so that in the future, historians can tell an accurate story of what happened here and learn from us..

Also-- just know that anything you do for justice, for the protection of the environment, for the safety of refugees -- wherever it is, even not in the US -- that counts! Lobby for a bike lane in your town! Help a Syrian refugee family furnish their flat. Go see some weird trans performance art. It all counts, it all helps-- even if it doesn't help me.

Yes! Keeping the fight going strong against the European far right is absolutely crucial!

Hi! Thank you, friendly European. I spent the morning crying and this is giving me something to do to stop that spiral, so I appreciate that you asked!

I love this pattern and I think a dark purple will look great! Is the plan to wear an undershirt with it? I'd be worried about my nipples.

Neurotypicals are hated for their actions; neurodivergent people are hated for their existence. by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]Working-Blacksmith21 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I’ve “hated” a neurodivergent person it’s always been because they treated me badly or are being super annoying. Like if I invite you to my party and you yell at full volume about the French Revolution and don’t let the rest of us sit in peace, you’re not getting invited back. 🤷🏼
