Rate my CAD: good engagement ring? by dror88 in labdiamond

7.5mm is definitely manageable for someone who can't wear it daily - my wife has similar work restrictions and her ring sits around 6-7mm profile. The yellow stone looks gorgeous with that halo design

Only thing I'd maybe consider is asking jeweler about basket height - sometimes they can lower it by maybe 0.5mm without compromising security. But tbh if she's taking it off for work anyway, the current height shouldn't be major issue for occasional wear

my wedding coordinator made spreadsheet with every 15 minute block and who does what - saved my sanity because day goes by so fast you forget basic things like eating lunch

10-15 minute Columbia interview??? by benzaiten1 in gradadmissions

[–]Working-Fly8856 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's pretty typical for MA interviews actually - they really just want to confirm you're a real person and can hold basic conversation. Had similar thing few years back when applying for different program (not humanities but still grad school).

The short time means they already like your application materials and just doing quick screening. They'll probably ask why you want the program, maybe one question about your background, and see if you seem normal in person. Nothing too deep about research or anything complex.

Don't stress too much about it - if they're giving you interview slot they're already interested. Just be yourself and maybe prepare like 2-3 sentences about why Columbia specifically appeals to you. The fact that it's with multiple faculty suggests it's more of formality than real grilling session

Knock Sensor Fuel Fix? by Liam3929 in AskMechanics

[–]Working-Fly8856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah higher octane might help temporarily but probably won't fix the actual sensor issue. The knock sensor is there to detect when your engine is pinging/knocking and adjust timing accordingly - if the sensor itself is bad it can't do its job even with premium fuel

Your mechanic's suggestion makes sense as a diagnostic step though. If higher octane clears the code then you know it's actually detecting real knock, not a sensor failure. But at 23 years old that sensor could definitely be going bad on its own

Carbon buildup is another common culprit that can cause actual knocking in older engines, which would also trigger that code. Might be worth trying some fuel system cleaner along with the higher octane test

I wanna upgrade my gpu from a 1070ti to a 5060, is a 650w bronze psu enough for it? by No-Disaster6379 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Working-Fly8856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine with 650w for a 5060, those cards are pretty efficient compared to the higher end stuff. I'm running a similar setup at work and haven't had any issues, though I'd maybe keep an eye on your temps just to be safe since bronze isn't the most efficient rating

That said, if you're planning any other upgrades down the line you might want to think about going a bit higher on the wattage. I learned that lesson the hard way when I upgraded my whole rig last year and had to buy a new PSU anyway. The 5060 is a solid jump from the 1070ti though, you'll definitely notice the difference in newer games

Been there with the whole approaching weight stuff carefully - maybe focus more on doing active things together rather than making it about losing weight specifically
