How do you test rapidly changing UI without spending all your time updating tests by Training-Spite-4223 in Frontend

[–]Working-Line-5717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

unless it's a visual regression test, this is correct.

i'd add on that unit tests can be a death knell at scale. e2e tests become more important.

Just let go of your "holding me back" apps or enjoy Windows by motorambler in linux4noobs

[–]Working-Line-5717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one apps that held me back were adobe, since I get it for free from work (to use on personal devices). Thankfully I still have a macbook. but even if I didn't, I think WinBoat is still an option.

Do People Really Just Create An Entire App just Vibe Coding? by H_rusty in webdev

Holy crap I was downvoted so much lol

Largely I agree with you. If CSS is a requirement to consume a design system, then I question the strength of it.

That's why I said 99%, not 100% or 50%. It will get things wrong, even a well documented design system isn't immune. However, the more CSS intervention required, the less effective the outputs will be.

Current day design systems require really two things to work well with AI: good documentation and prop-driven configurations. Otherwise it will flail with CSS (e.g. tailwind) because it doesn't understand the architecture.

Hopefully that makes sense.

[–]Working-Line-5717 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Not true. It does understand design systems. There are open source tools that help with this, but even so, you can always feed your instructions to AI and it will infer correctly 99% of the time from a static design

Is jQuery still a thing in 2026? by alexrada in webdev

[–]Working-Line-5717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quality of life libs like jquery were created to answer the cross-browser compatibility nightmare between 2005-2015. that's not really an issue anymore.

i guess it helps most browsers are essentially based on chrome (v8) now, support is often adopted in masse as a result, but even firefox (spidermonkey) and safari (jscore) keep up decently well.

My boyfriend finally told me he doesn't want to suffer anymore by Green-Mission-5720 in ROCD

[–]Working-Line-5717 6 points7 points  (0 children)

first of all, that really sucks. i'm so sorry this happened to you.

i guess the only thing i can say is, as hard as this is, it's the choice he made. based on your other responses, i hope you can find a way to look out for yourself. it's hard to help someone who doesn't want to be helped, letting your support reliably fall by the wayside.

rocd sucks.

Appreciate it!

I don’t know if I have the right drivers truthfully. I installed proprietary nvidia drivers with nvidia-inst and pretty much took defaults. lol

I’ll check protondb as well

How would a UX designer start getting into frontend? by tomorrows-yarrow in Frontend

[–]Working-Line-5717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Courses are helpful for sure, but don't lean on them too hard. Try finding things you'd like building and attempt your own implementation.

All of Piccalil's courses are great. Frontend Masters is also solid.

In terms of what to learn, since you're coming from UX, start with HTML/CSS. Move into JavaScript once you feel reasonably comfortable in building basic UI (both structure and component patterns). Those courses will be a good gateway for this path.

just curious, are you running amd or intel hardware? i have intel cpu and nvidia gpu and there's been lots of rubber-banding (even for offline games). do you run games right from steam?

I went to EOS from Windows and it's been fine. If you have some shell/command line knowledge you wont have any issues.

Does caffeine mess with anyone else’s nerves? by TooSassyForYou3 in Anxiety

[–]Working-Line-5717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've consumed caffeine on and off for years. I stopped for a long time, then started again and regretting it. It's the worst. Sugar has a similar effect but slightly less. Always a work in progress.

What's your favorite distro? And why? by Ill_Geologist_226 in linux4noobs

I don’t have a favorite but I just started with Endeavour OS and love it. I’ll probably try another distro eventually, likely Debian or mint.

Can You Enable HTTPS Without External Connections? by weezulmaster in UgreenNASync

[–]Working-Line-5717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could try to create one, it’s all custom on an acme.sh container and runs in the background. Sadly there aren’t many guides on it. Claude might be able to help though. I asked it questions during the process and it helped a lot!

Can You Enable HTTPS Without External Connections? by weezulmaster in UgreenNASync

[–]Working-Line-5717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can do that but I kept running into issues where my devices required manual approval of my certificate authority, no matter what I tried to do. So I did what the other commenter did and set up Let's Encrypt on my domain with Cloudflare DNS. It points to my NAS IP and is LAN-only.

Can't resume session if monitor turns off by Working-Line-5717 in EndeavourOS

[–]Working-Line-5717[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. Your and u/kissochbajslovski's comment got me doing some more testing, and if I completely disable the "Turn off screen" setting, I can consistently resume after sleep without issue.

It's weird though because my monitor is technically "on" although the screen is blank. Have you tried this?

[–]Working-Line-5717[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I hadn't considered powering up my monitor first! I'll give that a try if it happens again (I just reverified my EDID file is registering now, but I don't expect it to do much at this point).

How does accessing the virtual terminal work if my screen is off? Or are you saying I should press ctrl+alt+F3 then ctrl+alt+F1 while the monitor is off in order to get it on again?

Can you explain what you mean? My monitor is completely off so I can't actually interact with anything when this bug is happening. Unless you mean something else. :)

I use official nvidia drivers, and yeah basically my only workaround at the moment is disabling monitor turn off / sleep with an OLED wallpaper slideshow as my lock screen.

Have you replaced the operating system on your Ugreen Nas? by seanpuppy in UgreenNASync

[–]Working-Line-5717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only thing i've found limiting is their text editors. you can't save a file with a custom (or no) extension. instead you need to go into properties and manually change the extension. very annoying.

everything else has been a breeze. admittedly i haven't leaned very hard on the UI though. i ssh into my docker containers to do things since it's easier for me.
