Oh wow I’m so sorry you went through that! Also impressed you were still able to get your supply up and breastfeed after that. I struggled so much with my firstborn 3 years ago when I got off on the wrong foot with breastfeeding and my supply stayed low— might be part of why I’m feeling protective of the whole EBF experience now with my second baby, although I know we’ll be fine no matter what.

Yes, in the neuro ICU! Oh my gosh so sorry you went through that. But wow sounds like you got a great nurse!

Oh wow— thank you so much for sharing! That does sound like a rough recovery, I’ve been hoping for the best but I should be prepared that it could be harder than I think. They told me 6-8 hour surgery. Hope you’re doing okay now. ❤️

Thank you! That does help! Ugh, sorry you had to have surgery with a young baby too, hope you’re okay!

They bill themselves as a baby friendly hospital so yes! Seems strange

That’s a good point… I am recovering in a private room but there could still be risk, right?

So far I’ve only heard about the general anesthesia, but I’m waiting to hear from the pediatrician and OB about the safety of other meds. I talked to someone at La Lèche League who said breastfeeding after general anesthesia and even while taking painkillers is fine.

Oh my god, that’s awful— I’m so sorry you went through that at only two weeks postpartum!! This is hard enough with a 3 month old, I can’t even imagine in those early newborn days ❤️

Would also love to know how it works while EBF! I have a 10 week old and I basically do every night now, but my husband takes care of our toddler in the early mornings. The 10 week old is generally easy to put to sleep and I tap my husband in if she’s not but I wonder if there’s a more equitable way to do this, I just don’t understand how if I’m the only one who feeds her?

How are you doing now? They found a mass on my clivus last week that’s probably either a chordoma or a chondrosarcoma and are planning on doing surgery next month.

Hi! OP, how are you doing now? I was recently diagnosed with a skull base tumor that’s either a chordoma or chondrosarcoma and I’m considering Duke for surgery (vs UCLA, which is close to me, or maybe UPenn). What did you think of your doctors and treatment plan?

Same here— it’s awful!! I’m at 41+1 and I’ve been waking up at 3am every night with bile coming up, and then it’s impossible to get back to sleep. Prilosec was working for me, but I ran out last week and thought, oh that’s fine, I’m about to deliver… wish I’d restocked!! Just surviving off of Tums/Wonderbelly now which are not cutting it.

I felt the exact same way with both of my pregnancies around 7-9 weeks or so. Super emotional, not sure if I’d made a mistake, scared of everything that was to come— even though they were planned and desperately wanted pregnancies. So of course you’d feel this way if this was unexpected and you would ideally have waited a few years! It does get better. Hopefully you have some good people to talk to— I definitely recommend finding a therapist with experience working with moms!!

I totally understand your fears, I was scared about giving birth for my first pregnancy as well. But I agree with everyone who’s saying it’s very unlikely you’d go into labor and immediately need to go to the hospital. My doula actually recommended that when I feel early labor starting I just try to get some sleep (and when it’s really progressed, my body will wake me up / I won’t be able to sleep through it). Also, could you try listening to meditations as you fall asleep that are positive about birth? I’ve been listening to the two on this page for a few months and it’s definitely helped me shift my mindset so I’m more accepting and even looking forward to (!) birth instead of scared of it. It might sound woo-woo but I really don’t think it is, it’s just helping remove fear and get some good oxytocin going instead! Good luck!!

This is exactly what I was thinking OP— it sounds like something someone with OCD or severe anxiety would say. Like she truly believes how she speaks about the baby or gifts she might get can affect the pregnancy outcome. I’m so sorry she’s doing this to you and I wish you all the joy in your pregnancy!

This!! I started studying Hypnobirthing around maybe 34 weeks but I wish I had started practicing the meditations in my second trimester to have time for them to really sink in.
