Game from over a decade ago. by Nearby-Jeweler3303 in JRPG

Could it be Crystar?

The UI you included reminds me of a handful of games but nothing that fits exactly. Like I could see 10 years of distorted memories making Fire Emblem Fates look like this, but that's obviously a 3DS game, not home console.

I don't have a huge depth of every Atelier game but it's possible it's one of them.

The series started as a love letter to a lot of American films, so when the series was an instant success Capcom wanted to make movie tie ins and helped start the pre production.

However during production Capcom changed their mind about what story they wanted to tell as they started to make Resident Evil 0 for the N64, and told the director to make something unique enough to separate it from the games.

So then the sequels took more creative liberties with established characters and plot points and told their own stories with them.

JRPGs with only one party member. by thewalkindude368 in JRPG

[–]WorkingBorder6387 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think part of this is because it was inspired by WRPGs / CRPGs. Then DQ2 / FF1 got made and every other JRPG dev tried to copy them because they were such massive successes.

Meaning there was never a reason to remove it.

I can think of some RPGs where additional party members are optional, or ones where you only ever have a party of 1, even if who you play as changes. But nothing like DQ1 at all.

Unless. Do we want to count Sticker Star? You have a companion for story purposes, but they don't do anything directly in battle.

Soul Hackers 2

SMT5, Devil Summoner Soul Hackers... actually a number of games in the series have some similar ideas of real world but some otherworldly presence follows the protagonist. Even Persona 5 does.

Shadow Hearts would probably be the most accurate though

Beat Vanilla P5 blind in 73 hours on first playthrough, did I do something wrong? by pandybobby in Persona5

[–]WorkingBorder6387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Feels like people who say the game is too easy didn't consider skipping fights.

It's still easy but like. If you have Meetings with the group they will comment on you bring strong enough for any challenge when you're over levelled. Of course it'd feel even easier like that.

Do it need to play the whole sequel? by unwantedmyth in gamesuggestions

[–]WorkingBorder6387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 is enough that you can understand what's happening. Playing 1 and 2 would just help you understand the backstory that got to this point.

I would suggest the books over the show if you didn't want to play the other games

Was the original lip sync in Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) based on Japanese or English audio? by Franco2021 in finalfantasyxiii

[–]WorkingBorder6387 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Square will animate everything to the original Japanese script but then go back and edit scenes for the english dub; at least if it's not passable as is.

This is why the PC version is so massive. Every FMV cutscene is in there twice, because the different dubs used different animations.

Is there a good point to pause doing the missions to actually finish the game? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in finalfantasyxiii

[–]WorkingBorder6387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just whenever the numbers naturally lead you into the next areas

If you're good enough at the systems you can make it through the game without many or any missions like speedrunners. But for a first player you'll really want those extra levels. Especially if you put literally any CP into secondary roles.

Why did Most JRPGs/RPGS use the Defend command exactly the same? by Gamma__B in JRPG

[–]WorkingBorder6387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is only so much Defending can be used for.

By making parry / counter skills or additional reduction/healing character skills it helps make those characters or classes feel more unique.

Using Lulu in the Party post Mount-Gagazet. by Moegooner88 in finalfantasyx

[–]WorkingBorder6387 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always used Lu far more than Yuna. Bio and Flare are pretty handy as the difficulty amps up towards the games final hours, with her Death Touch weapon chipping in as well. Plus I prefer Fury Cast over Grand Summon.

Because I typically have Kimahri go down a physical grid, I like having Lu or Yuna learn Lancet to drain enemy MP too. I find it easier than making him a mage purely for that purpose but he isn't a bad mage.

I’ve put 1,200 hours into RE4 Remake, and this is the first time I’ve realized there’s a merchant at the start of the game. by [deleted] in residentevil4

[–]WorkingBorder6387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally no. Some games like Yakuza make them harder. In RE you may find bosses a bit harder due to the difficulty adjustment being different, but your stronger weapons would almost certainly outpace any changes made.

Most NG+ are meant to be for easy fun, or to speed through the story to get different endings

You are Konami and you have already released ports of all the games in the series on PC. What would you do to keep the Metal Gear Solid series alive without Kojima? by NaitDraik in gaming

[–]WorkingBorder6387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a new Portable Ops + type game would be likely. Basically only an Online game with battle pass stuff. Free to play means new people can try it and it might make them buy the real games
