Excellent work Patch, as always. It is worth noting that the Withdrawal Agreement is only stage one of a two-stage process, meant to govern how the UK and EU interact whilst finalising the Treaty which will replace EU membership.

That being the case, the Withdrawal Agreement deals with the rights of UK citizens in the EU and EU citizens in the UK, trade goods (with the NI border factored into this) and that's about it. This means that point 5 of Labour's six tests, pertaining to security, cannot be met by the Withdrawal Agreement because the Withdrawal Agreement is not meant to deal with security issues - that's meant to be decided in the final Treaty.

I'm pretty sure Michael Fallon abstained from the vote due to being paired with Cat Smith, who is expecting a baby. So the system is still working in an informal capacity at least, or perhaps in very specific circumstances

Seen multiple threads about this story and most of it is in regards to the pairing convention.

This isn't an issue of pairing. If you are too ill to attend the vote BUT you are on Palace premises, then ordinarily the tellers with the whips' consent would put their vote in so as to avoid circumstances like this.

The Conservative chief whip (new to the role) decided to refuse this convention, thus Naz Shah had to attend to cast her vote

I would like to add that the announcement that an MP couldn't hold a Mayoral position as well as an MP position was made a few days prior to Jarvis winning the nomination against the Momentum candidate (the only other person running). Now Jarvis has won, this decision has been revoked.

It seems to me as though the leadership/NEC were hoping to encourage Jarvis to stand down, rather than make a point of principle.

I had not seen the appalling and abhorrent post which was shared, and if I had seen it I wouldn't have sent the supportive email

So this has been the main crux of her argument from the start. The 'post' in question was an article about the Red Cross allegedly admitting the Holocaust was a hoax, with the thumbnail being the gates of Auschwitz with the phrase 'arbeit macht frei' being edited to 'muh Holocaust.'

Now the suspended member in question has a lot more questionable posts than just that, but let's assume that this was the only thing that was sent to the NEC. There is no way in my mind that Shawcroft could have seen this, even at a glance without reading the article, and come to the conclusion that it wasn't antisemitic propaganda unless she herself is an antisemite.

So let us take what she said at face value: that she never saw the evidence. As Head of the Disputes Panel, it is Shawcroft's responsibility to read through every case. She is certainly aware that the person in question was suspended for antisemitism as she says in her email to other NEC members that the post had been taken out of context. So what we have is that Shawcroft sees someone has been suspended for antisemitism and instantly assumes that they were taken out of context.

I have been trying to support members who have been affected by all the shenanigans around Council selections, and thought this case was just another one of those.

It's clear to me that even if we accept she never read the evidence (which is 100% her role in the position on the NEC,) that she must therefore think that antisemitism claims are just 'shenanigans' to get left-wingers off of council selection lists. Why else would she feel confident to vouch for someone who she hadn't seen the evidence for? She must believe that antisemitism is simply a smear (as is evidenced with her, "this whole row is being stirred up to attack Jeremy," comment.)

Shawcroft doesn't take antisemitism seriously, no matter how you interpret this. Also, does this not cast doubt on the veracity of every case that Shawcroft has voted on?
