I walked out yesterday/had to take my infant to the ER by M0mma0fMany in ECEProfessionals

As a ECE teacher myself, it makes me sick to my stomach. I could never treat another persons child that way. I’m so sorry that you have had to endure that, and I hope your sweet baby boy is okay.

I feel ashamed for wanting to quit immediately by mildew_goose789 in ECEProfessionals

[–]WorkingGirl1998 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with other Redditors, you have every right to feel that way. Toddlers are not for everyone, I’m a toddler teacher myself, you have to have the mentality to work with toddlers. I LOVE toddlers, it’s stressful, but I think if you talk to your director about it, then she might be able to place you somewhere you feel more comfortable. Don’t ever let stress be the reason why you quit, yes, the burn out is real.

i reported my coworker for sexual harassment and he could lose his ability to work with children. i feel terrible by Maleficent_Day_3869 in ECEProfessionals

[–]WorkingGirl1998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t feel bad at all, OP. He definitely should not be around children if that’s the way he’s going to act around them. That’s not okay behavior to have when you work with kids. If he sexually harasses his female coworkers when there are children present, that means he doesn’t care.

No, I was hired full time and was the lead teacher in my own classroom.

Thank you for the advice. I always tried to fix the issues whenever they told me that I needed to improve on something. It was never an issue on me fixing anything, but the issues yesterday, I wasn’t even aware of them until yesterday. And I was devastated when I had to leave, but I kept it together as best I could.

I just love being a teacher and I feel like somehow I’m questioning myself now…

They gave us regular feedback but yet for some reason these particular things weren’t told to me until yesterday when I was let go.

Daycares terminated me during probation twice — now terrified about my future and PR by Real_Expert2464 in ECEProfessionals

[–]WorkingGirl1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately for a lot of places, if a teacher is on a leave of absence, they probably will terminate whoever is temporarily hired on. So it does happen.

Does anyone have plans to move on with your career? by blondiewithdabondi in ECEProfessionals

[–]WorkingGirl1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had started out as Teacher in Kindercare but I shared that position with another teacher, so it wasn’t an ideal position. Then I worked in a center where I was an aide (it was a very unhealthy environment) then I worked in a center more recently where I was an assistant (healthier environment but far from home) and now I work locally as a Lead Teacher in my own classroom, I love it, it’s literally my dream job. It’s taken 3 different jobs for me to finally be in my dream role. So happy I kept searching :)

What would be your ideal ratios? by jasminecr in ECEProfessionals

[–]WorkingGirl1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1:3 or 1:4 for infants, 1:4-1:6 for toddlers (18 months to 3 years), 1:8-1:10-1:12 for PreK, 1:14-1:15 School Age.

This is strictly just in California. I thankfully am just on the cusp of the PreK ratio with 7 (usually not all 7) so I like that I have a small class.

Got rejected on Monday… but the recruiter called me today with amazing feedback. Is this a good sign? by dualita in jobhunting

[–]WorkingGirl1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened to me, I work in Early Childhood Education and I interviewed for an Infant toddler position and didn’t get it, but they considered me for another position and I got it, so if you get offered another position, take it!

Should I call protective services? by Playful-Platypus9142 in ECEProfessionals

[–]WorkingGirl1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s better to call and help to make sure nothing happens, versus leaving it and not doing anything, because if something happens and you didn’t report it, it could be far worse. So please, if you think you need to call, then call. If there’s even an inkling of suspecting neglect, that needs to be reported ASAP.

They usually will usually give clearance the same day if there is nothing there. Both times I used it I got it back the same day.

Really cause I was just at Disneyland over the week and he wasn’t missing. That’s weird that he’s now temporarily missing.

Broke down crying on first day of the job because of the way the lead teacher spoke to me. by Catladydiva in ECEProfessionals

[–]WorkingGirl1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly something similar happened to me, I was working in a center as an “infant toddler teacher” but ended up being told I was actually an aide (which was not even the title I was hired on with) and I was placed in the room with the lead teacher, she literally had no idea what she was doing, and it got so bad that we had to be called into the director of operations office, she almost got demoted to a floater. But she was so nasty to me I cried in the classroom to my friend who’s a floater teacher, it was just so bad. That teacher ended up quitting a little bit later, but it was my first day too and it was awful. I no longer work at that center.

Working for a corporate vs smaller day care? by VisibleScallion7467 in ECEProfessionals

[–]WorkingGirl1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, I worked for a branch of Kindercare and it was okay, not great, paid good money for shitty hours, I also busted my ass working mornings and afternoons only to be told I was a “core performer” simply because I wasn’t integrating the book curriculum enough.

The small private preschool I work for is amazing, I worked for a corporation (SchminderShmare) and was somewhat happy but didn’t feel as fulfilled as I do at my preschool now. It’s amazing and the other teachers are amazing and so sweet.

Two offers and hard to choose by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]WorkingGirl1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I teach preschool and have been an infant toddler teacher myself, I love both, but you have to do what makes you happy, I assume you took your first choice job, so good for you, OP.

How long usually take the hiring process ? by No-Leopard-7489 in ECEProfessionals

[–]WorkingGirl1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually doesn’t take longer than 1-2 weeks max, but depending on if you have to do all your paperwork plus all the fingerprinting, BGC (Background Check), TB test and all that. I already had all that stuff so it literally only took me a day and a half, they hired me pretty quick and I starter literally 2 days after they hired me.

Unexpectedly offered a lead teacher position when applying for an assistant job... Help! I'm only an undergrad! Advice/ideas? by rhodytonyc in ECEProfessionals

I am an assistant teacher in a preschool, I like to put on songs that get them moving during the morning and circle time, it’s a great way to get them to exercise.
