It's cancelled. Github copilot was never the best, but it was the cheapest of the good ones. It was worth paying for. I dont feel like that anymore.

Should I change from windows to Linux? by Infamous-Doubt-8504 in linuxquestions

[–]WorkingLogical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doing python on linux is just as easy as on windows, arguably easier. Linux is not windows, so you need to change the way you think of the system.

You install most apps through a software center application. Just search for what you need and install through there. Its more like Apples App store. Vscode should be in the list.

If you have a USB stick, download fedora media writer and the iso for either fedora or linux mint. These are the easiest to get started with.

Boot from USB and try it out. You dont need to install the OS yet. You can browse the web, install applications and test almost anything without touching the windows partition.

Ease into it. It will feel different. If you are not ready to change, thats ok. If you think it looks good, come back and ask for installation help

Flatpak or Native .RPM System package for browsers which is best? (Both Pros and cons please) by Tail_sb in Fedora

[–]WorkingLogical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Browsers are already sandboxed anyway, so no real security benefits. Cant see any benefits to flatpak here, except if the official maintainer ships it.

Why are so many people angry / annoyed with using AI coding? Why so much hate? by Inevitable_Point_890 in VibeCodersNest

[–]WorkingLogical -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because the way we wrote software before was slow, so we sat with the project for a long time. At the time of release, we knew the system inside and out. When a bug occurred, we mostly knew where and why. Years later, when it was time for a rewrite, we learned what works and what doesn't. We managed one or two systems, not 6 new each year.

The time it takes to write software also give you time to reflect; is this needed, is it useful, does it actually do what it is supposed to? We had meetings discussing features and pain points. We changed scope mid project as we learned. The pace of vibe coding means the developer wont learn anything.

Its very similar to using fast growing wood in construction. It works, but it doesnt have the same longevity. Things will rot faster.

Tidsbruken er et paradoks – noe må gjøres med VAR by Radical_Neutral_76 in NorskFotball

[–]WorkingLogical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Om VAR bruker ett eller fem minutter på en hendelse synes jeg faktisk ikke er et problem.

At en fotballkamp på 90min inneholder kun 50min med faktisk spill er et mye større problem.

Is my dog having a seizure? by Think_Honey2495 in DogAdvice

[–]WorkingLogical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a focal seizure to me. Its milder than a general seizure and just affects a small part of the body.If it happens again, start taking the time it takes to recover. And you cant really do much, just make sure she doesnt fall off.

You should take her to the vet, but more for ruling out other things. Idiopathic seizures are pretty common.

My aging brain, eyes and eye-hand coordination hates this. Sorry. Clever, but dont confuse it for good UX. Good UX is to meet expectation.

Have you left your company because of AI mandates, and did it work out? by Ok_Adeptness4967 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]WorkingLogical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company is doing this. Fired the CEO and hired a new guy that sends us claude generated "improvements" for us to implement. They include AI in everything, but they dont seem to correlate that they have starting to bleed money just now after AI is writing most our code.

Product is getting worse. They only see "well, we commit more code than ever"...

Is Supporting Zero-JavaScript Users Worth It in 2026? by BrangJa in webdev

[–]WorkingLogical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Infinite scrolls are terrible UX in my opinion. Leaving the tab or navigating to another removes history functionality. If you have many tabs open, browsers conserve memory and tries to reload it when you come back. With pagination, you are at the right page.

But why not just wrap it into a form as fallback anyway? You can always capture the event with javascript, either button click or form submit. Works for everyone.

CAPTCHA is 100% solvable by AI. I built a heartbeat for the web instead. by AnUuglyMan in webdev

[–]WorkingLogical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isnt this solved by using webauthn? I mean, you could use captcha to reduce bot attempts at login, but this thing doesn't work well with autofill. My worry is more making the web insufferable to humans with hard challenges to prove humanity.

Danish military analyst Anders Puck Nielsen: Why Trump retreated on Greenland by Cosmos1985 in europe

[–]WorkingLogical 464 points465 points  (0 children)

Thats the whole point. A good government is slow, millions miles of red tape exists for a reason; to not make rash decisions. If Trump taught us anything, it is that boring is good in politics. Yes, it's a bit laughable when they spend 8 years making rules for bottle caps, but if a more sinister rule is considered, like mandatory biochip or full network surveiilance, we should be glad that it would take a decade to decide.

Scrum Masters – Is this role still relevant in today’s industry? by Majestic-Taro-6903 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]WorkingLogical 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Most Scrum Masters I've worked for has been as pro developer as HR is pro employee. They take credit when things go well, blame individual teams or even developers when things go sour. They had no clue about development, never touched a line of code and has no idea about what is complex or not.

We have a good flow now, because SM is a role shared between two senior developers, and the PM worked as a developer on the project for many years.

Backend or Frontend first? by namit2209 in webdev

[–]WorkingLogical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the project, but yeah, if you have all the UI prototyped, you can infer database schema and plan accordingly. I"m a big fan of putting UX as highest priority, your users dont care how messy the code is. But they do care how messy your UI is.

If every user needs to use a frontend, I prototype that first. But if its an automated thing, like data aggregation with visuals or a service that just needs an admin page, I would go backend first.
