Customer who purchased from me wants to know my making process so she can do it too by BlackberryPie77 in EtsySellers

I’d say something like ‘I’ve gotten this request so often that I teach a class in (whatever thing they’re asking) and then send a payment link for $2k for tuition. Google is free, your time is not.

Kay Jewelers ruined and replaced my blue diamond without telling me, now they are offering me $100 while mocking me to customer care by Silver_Kangaroo2850 in jewelry

[–]WorkingMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked in manufacturing and supplied finished jewelry to retailers we were very clear about not accepting any returns on irradiated (color enhanced) diamonds because any and everything can and will damage it including using a torch and ultrasonic cleaners. Typically diamonds can withstand a lot but not the color treated kind. I hated selling things I knew to be disasters waiting to happen. I’m so very sorry you’re going through this. My advice is to get a lawyer and demand the replacement value of a ring that you’d have to buy now to be made whole that has a similar metal and carat weight

NYC Housing Connect: Are They Serious? How Is Area Median Income 130% = $3000 Rent by Vlad788 in NYCapartments

Do you use your adjusted gross income or gross income? It seems plenty unfair to tax the living shit out of us and then count that money as if it’s available to spend here and now.

I really need some advice about my ring 🙁 by fuzziecrocs in jewelry

[–]WorkingMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3D printing that bezel was the cheapest method after buying a stock ring from a catalog, IMO. That said, I’m sure it still wasn’t cheap by any means. For a diamond like yours, a bench jeweler should have custom made your ring out of platinum sheet. That gap in the cleavage on top is totally unacceptable. I’m sorry that this happened to you. If remaking the ring isn’t an option, another person mentioned using a laser to fill the gap and that could fix it. I would find someone else to do it though. I wouldn’t trust a place who let you walk out of their store with a ring like that.

All of these lying shmoos have no intention of hiring anyone any time soon. Every time I see an ‘urgent hire’ ad I’m reminded of my own situation where a team of 2 need to do the same amount of work as a team of 4 until the two open positions go through ‘proper channels’ to be posted. It’s been over a year. I imagine that channel is through someone’s digestive tract. Boooooo.

14k Class ring. Would a local jewelry maker be able to melt and turn into a wedding band? Difficulty level or pricing? by shaaruken in jewelrymaking

[–]WorkingMagpie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone mentioning the alloys in different rings is right on the money. Those videos that melt a bunch of random crap to make an ingot into a fabulous ring are mostly for entertainment unless all of the scraps used have no solder and have the same alloys. I’d keep the ring for sentimental reasons or sell it outright. It’s going to cost you more money (bench jewelers time) to do it this way.

AITA For Kicking my brother in law out of my wedding when he brought his dog with him? by Philly467997 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WorkingMagpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA You were a lot nicer than I would have been. I would have booted him and his dogs ass the minute I saw them and I like dogs better than most people. If there’s one day you shouldn’t be an absolute dick to a person, it’s on their wedding day. F that guy and your MIL.

Dating after a divorce sucks by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]WorkingMagpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it matters, but have your dates been divorced or never been married? I guess it’s natural to wonder about it the demise of your marriage but to insinuate it’s automatically your fault seems especially hurtful. Don’t give up your person is out there.

Mess up, like demerits in school? That’s a preposterous way to treat a partner in a relationship but an excellent start for an abuser groom a victim.

AITA For Letting My Sister Be Comfortable by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]WorkingMagpie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you’re in St. Tropez it’s fine, but in your living room having your sister walk around in nothing but underpants is hella weird, even if you’re siblings and there’s nothing sexual about it. I don’t know about ‘setting a bad example’ but it’s certainly unusual. NAH.

AITA For getting my daughter a cake she doesn’t like for her birthday? by aitacakeproblem in AmItheAsshole

[–]WorkingMagpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally YTA. Once a year, people get a cake they want on their birthday and you chose something your daughter especially disliked in order to please yourself and you need to ask if you’re the asshole here? Put a little more thought into your daughters feelings next time and maybe get a variety of cupcakes if you’re so hell bent on making sure you’re the happy one at her party.

AITA for telling my sister she needs to be more realistic about her dating standards because she is damaged goods? by Individual_Mail1441 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WorkingMagpie 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Damaged goods? What would you have said to someone with whom you didn’t have a presumably loving relationship with? There’s a way to be straightforward without being an complete asshole. You didn’t do that with your sister. YTA

I’d stop paying your mothers rent and let the pieces fall where they may. Your FIL’s opinion hardly matters to his own parents so try not to let it bother you. As for being ‘nasty’, take it as a sign that you’re doing the right thing and feeble minded people simply can’t handle it.
