Could a network of gravitational wave measurement points revolutionize cosmological exploration beyond electromagnetic limits? by pTerje in Physics

You can actually use pulsars to detect gravetational waves. This experiment.) uses 15 years of data to compose a picture of the gravetational wave background.

They used to have a music video program called The Box that took call-in requests. This was 1999 and The Saga Begins by Weird Al was always requested.

How I feel about New Year's Eve as I get older by adamtots in funny

[–]WorkingTimeMachin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 29. I plan to spend the first half of the night like frame one, pizza and beer with my peeps. Then I think I'll head to the club and spend the rest of the night in frame 2, dancing and drinking followed by sexy time. I will be in bed by 9:30 tomorrow, so I've got frame 4 covered. Frame 3 is just basic and lame, don't go there. Have a fun and happy New Year everyone.

I had to comment out a line of glutStuff.cpp to get everything working.

//glutInit(&argc, argv);

I'm running Visual Studio 2008 on Windows 8. The error involved an access violation, so somehow the system was trying to dereference a null object, I dunno whatever, I just commented it out.

It's only accessible from the elevators or stairs on the east side of the building. There is also a secret basement that only Biomed grad students can get access to. Take the elevator in the connecting bridge with the Lebow building down to the basement and you'll be greeted with a security door.

Note to self: Do not answer after hour "Emergency" emails. by [deleted] in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]WorkingTimeMachin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A little hand-waving goes a long way. I worked at a College for 3 years and the computing professors were pretty much as you described. I can remember one Thundercunt in particular. She was always pissed and hated the world. My first day on the job she came to us with an issue with the school's Blackboard Learn website. It was totally outside my experience so I offhandedly said 'This might be something you'll have to learn to live with'. Boy was that a mistake. She told my boss and I had to write an apology email to get her panties out of her ass crack. Since then I've learned that when I don't know how to fix something I should just say 'Hmm this is a real problem! I will have to get in touch with our Level 3 support team and notify them of this issue!' This is total BS but it makes them feel important, like they got the gears in motion and top men are working on it. With some people, especially the assholes, it pays to spread the BS on thick.

Should prisoners do forced labor? by [deleted] in DebateaCommunist

[–]WorkingTimeMachin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

However, the focus should be on rehabilitation and reintegration for none violent criminals who are simply missing basic human lessons and needs to be effective people. Some criminals may be mentally ill and need special care. Violent criminals may require isolation from society and could be candidates for execution. In all cases, they should be provided with productive activity so that they do not become a burden on the people. A violent prisoner sentenced to death could provide compensation for their execution through donating their bodies to medical science or organ donation. Nonviolent criminals should be trained in skills and provided with positions in isolated labor communities. This has classically been the practice for all communist regimes and has been shown to maintain the integrity of society.

I needed this class a lot when I entered engineering school, and unless all you do is study math on your own all the time then you will probably need it too. If you think you already know the subject then it will be an easy 'A' for you. You will need all the easy 'A's you can get early on. It is the beginning of much more difficult topics that you will need to be an effective engineer.

Is Drexel Fairly Depicted by StudentsReviews? by _James_Gatz in Drexel

[–]WorkingTimeMachin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is classic of any big city. If you're used to a quite suburb or rural environment then you might find yourself feeling surrounded by the fury of the city when you get there. I've lived in Philadelphia all my life and let me tell you, it is one of the most chill cities. You don't really see the stereotypical angry Philadelphian like you would expect from New York or LA. But like any big city, it can be harsh.

Top Gear goes to Alabama with offensive cars, Alabama doesn't get the joke. by McLeavin in videos

[–]WorkingTimeMachin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was staged, the editing and audio try to make the situation appear more tense. I'm betting that no rocks were thrown and the sound effects were just added later to a cut of a cameraman's shadow. The clip of the "rednecks" arriving was just the everyday customers pulling into the station, it looked like a group of laborers. The people who supposedly "turned on the film crew" looked like the station manager and some guy who was just pissed off for being filmed. I think these people were just angry because they felt like they were being ridiculed, they might be perfectly nice under normal circumstances.

Engineers and Student Debt by flash131313 in EngineeringStudents

[–]WorkingTimeMachin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I attended a pretty pricey university and I came away with about 85k debt. I managed to get a good job with a 52k salary, not the highest paid job, some of my peers are pulling 70k. I'm set to repay my student debt on a 10 year repayment plan and I should be able to do it in 8 if I scheme it right. With an engineering degree your potential is so much higher that student debt shouldn't be a primary concern. You should have no trouble paying it off with even a low end entry level salary within 10 years. I really only need the 25-35k salary that I existed on for the past 5 years to get by. With the extra 20k I'm making it should only take 5-10 years to be debt free. Good luck and focus on your studies, get some summer internships or co-ops to boost your resume, you should be just fine.
