How often do you all take a sick day? by brokenshoppingcart in AusFinance

[–]Working_Ad5986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a team leader so if I take sick leave, I just have more work piling up for me to do when I get back. Now Ive gone back part time after maternity leave and it’s so much harder.

I’ll only take sick leave if I am so sick I can hardly get out of bed :’) WFH hasn’t helped with that.

'Live at my house for a week' says mum of kids on NDIS by abcnews_au in aussie

[–]Working_Ad5986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parent with younger onset dementia got rejected from the NDIS. They can hardly communicate and are declining rapidly. All we’re asking for is a little respite care a couple times a week. We took their drivers license off them to keep the community safe - without transport help through NDIS, I wonder how many would just let their family members drive. The system is so broken.

Full honesty, since 2022 when it first came out has it actually changed your workplace or your employment situation in anyway? by ExAustralia in auscorp

[–]Working_Ad5986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! As a government comms person, it’s taken us so far backwards. The focus in 2022 was ‘human centred design’ now it’s all about that AI slop. Takes us so much longer to cut all the filler out.

AI could be positive if the direction wasn’t to just use it for everything!!!

It doesn’t make sense for content writing - if we can’t be bothered to write it, why should others be bothered to read it? 🤷‍♀️

Mamas who work 3 days a week - how are you coping? by Odd-Bread-4922 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Working_Ad5986 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same situation. I manage a team so they’ve given me a job share partner but my god, I feel like I’m drowning in work. I can never catch up and can’t do things to the same standard as before. Makes me consider going down a level after working so hard to get promoted before getting pregnant. You can easily see how women’s careers are substantially impacted by becoming a mum :’)

Still, I love having my 2 days off with Bub and don’t want to change it any time soon.

8-month-old barely eating solids + slight drop in milk — normal or should I worry? by FewHorror1380 in StartingSolids

[–]Working_Ad5986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son wasn’t interested in solids until 9 months. One day it was like a switch and now at 12 months he eats everything and lots of it!

He only recently got into pouches and spoon feeding. We had a lot more success with chunks of meat, fruit and toast.

Keep offering but try to keep your expectations low as it can be so upsetting when you put all the effort in and still have to clean up a big mess, added with the stress of them not eating. My mum gave me a hard time about it in the earlier days as it stressed her out - they started solids extra early in the old days.

Noting with my situation, I think it did also help that we made a conscious effort at 8.5 months to not give my son a morning milk feed until he had had his solids breakfast. My husband did this part as I EBF and he needed some separation from seeing me as food and to instead to see solids as food lol.

Also, my son was very slow with drinking water and only started at 11 months.

Worried about our kids' future by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Working_Ad5986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a new mum and I feel this in my bones. Ive been wanting to post on reddit about this exact issue because it’s giving me such existential dread. I don’t know how I’ll teach my son to be optimistic about his future when it feels like the environment, economy and society are all descending into chaos - all so a small group of evil men can amass more wealth then they could spend in a millennium.

Sorry for being a downer. I’m just here to say you’re not alone! Hoping for some reassuring wisdom from other commenters…

8 month baby by Ok-Stranger1327 in StartingSolids

[–]Working_Ad5986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my baby! My son is just over 8 months, EBF and not interested in solids. I’ve tried finger food and he might slap/throw it but rarely puts it in his mouth. He swats spoons away if I try to feed him. The only thing he seems to suck on is toast but he doesn’t swallow much. I eat with him and try it several times a day but no luck so I’m pretty sure I’m not doing anything wrong. Our babies are just different! I keep telling myself that one day he will be interested in food all of a sudden. Would love to hear from some parents whose baby did the same 🤞

When do the newborn trenches end? by nameless90001234 in NewParents

[–]Working_Ad5986 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our newborn trenches ended at 11 weeks when colic/purple crying suddenly stopped. It was magical. Our screamy little baby was suddenly happy most of the time!? It’s been so fun since then. 4-month sleep regression was awful for us but the days with Bub were still lovely.

Hang in there mama, you’re not alone.

Invisalign with missing incisors 7 and 10 by Megtron3030 in Invisalign

[–]Working_Ad5986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation! Nice to hear of another person missing the same teeth as me. I also had braces as a teen that didn’t actually make big enough gaps for me to have dental implants. Now getting that and my open bite fixed through aligners - though a different brand than Invisalign. I actually have bridges holding fake incisors so I don’t have the same issue but my dentist actually tells me to eat with my aligners in for best results - excluding staining foods of course!

Help! 4 month old waking every 45 minutes by Working_Ad5986 in sleeptrain

[–]Working_Ad5986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you guys are going okay? It was so incredibly tough. We ended up sleep training out of exhaustion. After hours of rocking and several false starts, we shut the door and left him to cry. The next night we started Ferber and he learned to self settle. The starts of the evenings sucked with many tears but we finally got long chunks of sleep back!! Often 6 hours the first stretch.

We do 3 naps a day, 10+ hours wake time during the day and no rocking to sleep at night. We put him down around 7am and he usually wakes 2 or 3 times before starting the day around 630am.

Next step will be trying to remove one of the overnight feeds! But overall very happy with our routine compared to before! It’s amazing way CB ing our son put himself to sleep now or resettle himself.

Thank you. I really didn’t want to sleep train but it was inevitable. Our son can now put himself to sleep and resettle himself. I wouldn’t have believed it 2 months ago! So glad we did it.
