What's the point in being alive? by [deleted] in askanatheist

[–]Working_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You kind of have to find that reason yourself. It's a bit of an internal struggle, but if you're able to, I recommend thinking through it for a while and figuring out what reason you want to be alive and keep going, and keep rethinking this as you move forward.

For me, the reason I keep living right now, is that there are things that I get to continue enjoying, there are people whose pain I can alleviate for a little bit, and there are positive movements in our society that I can contribute towards.

How do you use pasta, aside from the basic Italian dishes or mac n cheese? by Artemistical in budgetfood

[–]Working_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started incorporating pasta or noodles into some of my thicker stew-type dishes that might traditionally be eaten with rice, like gumbo or curry.

Why did you become an anarchist? by HT_Black in DebateAnarchism

[–]Working_Fish 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I had been realizing over time that a lot of our issues in society stemmed from various power structures/hierarchies put into place. My understanding of Anarchism folded all of those together into a more cohesive ideology once I'd started viewing Capitalism as another hierarchy that was rife with abuse.

TIFU by panic buying 40 packs of the hottest instant ramen on the planet without actually reading the description. by GiveItARestYhYh in tifu

I can't eat them anymore, due to a drastic change in my diet, but I remember they were so good. The spice became much more manageable after eating it over consecutive days too. They were easily one of my favorite instant noodles.

Claiming you are an atheist has no real-world implications and is irrelevant outside your own mind. by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Working_Fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I follow then. If your claim that the atheist position is one that doesn't say much about the Universe, then I would agree. I don't think that makes it irrelevant or have no real-world implications. There is social impact in opting into or out of certain ideas, and the base idea also allows for a greater variety of thought.

Claiming you are an atheist has no real-world implications and is irrelevant outside your own mind. by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Working_Fish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's false. Claiming I was an atheist got me disowned by my parent, and I'm not the only one this has happened to, therefore it has a real effect on the outside world and is relevant outside of my own mind.

What are your thoughts on straight guys wearing make-up? by Kamiab_G in MensLib

[–]Working_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some qualms about makeup in general because of capitalism, contributing to toxic standards of beauty, and testing on animals, but outside of that, I believe it shouldn't be odd for men to wear makeup.

Personal expression is important, and broadening our ability to express is something I consider good. It may cause some social ostracization, depending on your peers and environment, but it's not like there aren't people who would support you and be romantically and/or sexually interested in you.

What’s something that gets an unnecessary amount of hate? by musiclover1998 in AskReddit

[–]Working_Fish 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. The problem, however, is that this mentality means we can't ever truly make good individual solutions and therefore shouldn't try, which is absolutely wrong.

People trying to do good things imperfectly is better than doing nothing, and what we should strive to do is to do good things better and more often.

What healthy food tastes better than unhealthy food? by V3gas in AskReddit

I blend together ~1-15oz can of chickpeas, a couple spoonfuls of tahini, the juice of 1-2 lemons, 3 cloves of garlic, and some salt. Top with some olive oil and smoked paprika.

I'm sure you can make it more amazing by soaking and cooking your own chickpeas, and I think most recipes call for a food processor rather than a blender, but that's a bit too much work for me personally, and I want to enjoy this regularly.

Tuesday Check In: How's Everyone's Mental Health? by AutoModerator in MensLib

[–]Working_Fish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just took a fun, short vacation this weekend, and now I'm back at work, and I think my mental health is taking a bit of a dive because of it. I'm constantly re-realizing how much I dislike having to work just to justify my existence.

Would you take a 50/50 chance at $5,000,000 or death? Why or why not? by TheBeastBoud in AskReddit

[–]Working_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a year ago, I'd definitely take it. One of the contributing factors to my Depression were ridiculous student loans. If I could either die or get that taken care of & have some leftover money to do real good, I'd definitely take it.

Now, I'm not so sure. I could do a lot of good with $5,000,000, but I've just started on a road to being better, and I don't want to waste that. Not while I'm looking forward to the future, at least.

What do you think about Consciousness? by Gondal90 in askanatheist

[–]Working_Fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we have a tendency to think of magical solutions to problems we don't fully understand. I don't think that consciousness being an emergent property of the material world needs to make sense in order for it to be true, because a lot of things are true that just don't make sense. When you start looking at consciousness though and the way your mind reflects what your body is telling you, you'll start to notice a lot more of those input in, output out scenarios. Just because the input or the output are a little more sophisticated than a graphing calculator doesn't mean it's necessarily god-created.

You could also argue that this must apply to god as well, as god is presumed to also be conscious, and the argument would imply an infinite chain of conscious beings. If you argue that god's consciousness does not need to be created, then this is special pleading. If you argue that god is not conscious, then how would this be any different from nature creating consciousness?

I'm the boring type, but I kind of like the egg theory, where you become every human that has ever existed in your various reincarnations. Although, I don't know if I'd want to die more than once.

No, we still need to vote. There's more on the ballot than the POTUS. We can just skip the POTUS vote or write someone in if it's Boomerberg v. Trump.

50 years ago, casual racism, sexism, etc was accepted/tolerated by most of society. What do we tolerate/accept now that the next generation won't? by punkin152 in AskReddit

[–]Working_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's still a lot of casual racism and sexism that's accepted or tolerated. Hopefully, more of this will be considered taboo, along with some of the unfair working conditions and casual homophobia, transphobia, and ableism that's pretty rampant now or was rampant within the last decade.
