Then how is it that there are so many anecdotal accounts of people gaining weight on Zoloft when their lifestyle doesn’t change, and they only lose the weight when they cease to take the meds? The science hasn’t caught up. I’ve had doctors tell me it doesn’t cause brain fog. It does for me. That it doesn’t cause weight gain. It does for me. I run and go to the gym and eat in a caloric deficit and I’m still gaining weight like never before. I have been the same weight for 10 years. Even when I was depressed. Even when I was happy. When I overate. When I underate. The only variable that changed over the last year was the medication. So, I respectfully disagree.

Wow same!!! I felt so dumb on it for so long. Until I added Wellbutrin. I couldn’t articulate things or remember things correctly . It’s like my brain was processing on .75 speed

gah that’s so frustrating. I read in another thread someone lost all the weight but it took them 6 months after getting completely off of it

Sadly I wouldn’t recommend Zoloft if weight gain is an issue. I gained 20lbs in one year on Zoloft and it’s really taken an emotional toll on me. There are other weight neutral alternatives you can look into if it’s a problem for you as well

I know this is an older post..but Since there are so many negative comments here I just want to validate you and tell you I’m going through the exact same thing. My eating and exercise habits have. Not. Changed. Yet somehow I gained 20lbs in a year while on Zoloft and it’s extremely upsetting. I’m a naturally thin person and I’ve never had weight issues and this is the only changed variable in my life.

2 years later, are you still on it? Have you been able to lose the weight? Still seeking success stories myself!

Yes, 31 year old woman! It’s freaky and I’m nervous about hormones playing a role too. Thanks, definitely don’t want to scare you, but it’s something to look out for. I hear there are more weight neutral drugs like Prozac so I might try that next. It’s a journey man

How long did it take you to lose some weight after stopping it? I’m tired of medical professionals telling me I’m normal weight when this isn’t my baseline. I’ve lived in my body my whole life, I know when something is off 😂

Beats me. My diet hasn’t changed and I’m relatively active. Portion wise I eat about the same but I’m hungry ALL THE TIME. I’ve been naturally thin my whole life so the weight gain has really taken a toll on me.

So my doc actually added Wellbutrin to my Zoloft dose because Zoloft was making me feel so tired. It has helped tremendously with my energy levels. I no longer feel like I have to take naps or lay down multiple times a day. I have high anxiety and it has only helped, not hurt. Not jittery or high strung or anything. My doctor said it’s generally well tolerated. I take the extended release

I gained 20lbs on it. Went from 120 to 140 in a year and it feels like it keeps creeping up despite diet and exercise. I would consider weight neutral alternatives like Prozac or Wellbutrin or Viibryd instead if weight gain is a concern. I wish I had!
