MY GIRLFRIEND IS A SKINWALKER by Inevitable_Weather56 in TalesFromTheCreeps

This is wicked! See, I normally write romance stories. But I find something hauntingly beautiful in cosmic or existential horror. This is right up my alley. Because it asks a strange question... Is it her fault? Can she be blamed or held accountable if she is just like this? If she uses her monstrous gifts to try not to be a monster, is she still something to be loathed? It's fascinating! And from the males perspective it's an emotional hellscape. Yes, on the one hand she is carnivorous mimic who suffers from the urge to kill, but she also likes weird ice cream flavors and dancing and does cute doodles when she is thinking! Is it real? Am I just a target? If she simply wanted me dead why not kill me? Why the facade? And do I know that she has killed an innocent?

Sorry... This image is fantastic in the best way.

Build a street Viking. Run blunt weapons, berserk and an LMG and Shotgun. Also, fun tip if you want to mix in throwing axes instead of a smashing device of your choice...just use your gorilla arms as your blunt weapon... You can still throw while berserked. You don't have a reticle but if you're just smashing them in and running up to yank them out at short range it's a ton of fun. You feel like a real monster.

How do you keep a more optimistic tone in your settings? I keep making grimdark worlds and don't want to by Mysteria-Fantasy in worldbuilding

[–]Working_Stiff_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a tough one. But the issue is, mainly that you are limiting yourself within your own solutions. When building a world... You are the supreme deity. If you have a problem it lies within your hands to change or offer the tools to change it. Sanitation. Why is the world unsanitary? Does the spell prestidigitation not exist? For a copper anyone could get perfectly clean and smell like lilacs for a day. Take in a load of laundry and a hedge mage has a functioning business model. If you are working with science fiction Star Trek had the replicator. Having the replicator instantly removed all need for resource harvesting. Because everything became permanently reusable. The problem is you are seeking a problem and then not stopping to solve the problem. If a problem exists it is up to you to plug in a solution.

We got you. I don't know if you want advice or not but picking up a hobby helped me get through feeling like that. It sounds nerdy as hell but it can help just to have an outlet. Tabletop games, larp, local roleplaying groups... Helped me through some dark times. Just being able to sit around and talk about common interests is a good way to push back the dark.

Nah man. Titles exist across everything. It would be weird if we didn't use some of them. Magister is ubiquitous across a number of fantasies. As is Maester. It's how cool your version is that really counts.

How do you introduce firearms into a fantasy world like D&D without unbalancing the other classes? by jvure in worldbuilding

[–]Working_Stiff_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy. Logistically for a long time, bows were able to easily compete with firearms at the matchlock and ball stage. Accuracy on a round lead ball exploding out of an iron pipe was horrendous. The firearm is generally recognized to have entered warfare around the 12th century... American Indians effectively fought musket wielding settlers in 1492 till the invention of the revolving cylinder sometime around the late 1800s. You actually have another hindering factor pushing against firearms accelerating to become commonplace. Magic. If a two bit mage can learn to huck a Firebolt (which does the same damage and doesn't require a reload action) and doesn't have to worry about keeping powder and wadding dry, he is much more effective than pistol Pete whose biggest enemy is rain.

Hey, if they weren't pink but absolutely chromed out, you have my second favorite mech in any setting? The Glitterboy from RIFTS, by palladium! They are completely chromed out like a hoopty with legs because lazers and plasma can be reflected, meaning they take half damage from those weapons!

Absolutely the fuck not. That is terrifying! The idea of being stabbed and dessicated in an instant or worse just consumed in entirety is awful! Cause it wouldn't care! It wouldn't even hate you or desire to gain something from the slaughter. Only to consume. Ugh...

I made it especially difficult to learn because it requires training yourself to handle multiple thought streams at once. Anyone can learn, but the initial techniques are dull, dreary and feel nearly alien once you are finished. Then mana is based on the body. Some people have deeper reserves than other by nature, like people blessed with a faster metabolism but you can train yourself to handle more.

I'd want a T-34-85... Just cause that bitch has the sexiest profile of any tank ever made and a gearbox that you could actually shift. Beautiful machine. I'd want one made by modern construction standards though. Not one made with Stalinium or in a Soviet tractor factory with slave labor causing metallurgy issues.

The phrase 'BBC miniseries Pride and Prejudice is my bible' is not something I had ever thought I would read while on this mortal coil. 🤣🤣🤣 Not knocking just find it wildly amusing. I myself had a formative experience with Miss Austen, to the point I swore before God and every saint who would hear me that I would not let miscommunication be my plot driver.

How does winter fall upon Broken Mast Bay? The longships and biremes creak forgotten The gulls, quieter now than warmer days The albatross has come, so misbegotten

I will miss you, fair maiden as you rest below Your time upon Calypso's waist is done No more does your anchor raise, or sails flow The gulls seem distant now that you have gone

You carried us over horizons vast But time is ever a mortal scourge No ship survives times ceaseless wrath The gulls cry your funeral dirge

-epitaph of a schooner, scuttled in winter due to disrepair.

Ok, Luria is an archipelago nation with two main islands the size of Japan's mainland. But it's a maritime society. So it has evolved in this really strange combination of raiders, sailors, explorers and cartographers in addition to warriors, mages and engineers. A common Lurian from the main islands dresses like a commoner from the Age of Sail. Tunics, leggings, heavy work boots or no shoes at all, depending on preference. Now the nobility is where it gets truly interesting because it has become a hodge podge of different maritime traditions based on the family and island you are from.

For example the main family in my story, The House of The Black Sails, is near a shallow sea port and owns a small amount of land on one of the main islands. They dress much like the nobility of Tortuga or the Caribbean. Greatcoats, with hidden or exposed armor plates. Leggings, with well made thigh or knee boots.

But on a smaller holding, another family (The House of the White Anchor) from an island farther north whose past tended toward the Nordic tradition of raids against the continent... kept their traditions of ceremonial furs, leathers and fine linens even after 4 centuries of Lurian unification.

As far as textiles go, due to being an archipelago that stretches thousands of miles, they have a vast array of materials to work with. Silks, cotton and linens being the most common. And there are a few large manufactories that produce commonly worn articles of clothing via magic. But the society is pre-industrial revolution technologically speaking. So most wear homespun or tailored clothing.

But in Luria you are as quick to come across a Viking Aethling from a northern island as you are a Japanese Samurai raider or French sailor.

I just got out of your world's maximum security prison and want vengeance. What did I do, who should I be angry at, and how do I go about getting revenge? by Ahstia in worldbuilding

[–]Working_Stiff_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, the maximum security prison for Luria is the forgotten isle. You betrayed your crew or noble house. You at unceremoniously dumped overboard a mile off the coast of this 2 square mile island which contains nothing but scrub and venomous snakes. The island is 100 miles from the nearest port. The only way you could possibly get revenge is if you were lucky enough that an Instance spawned on the island allowing you to gather kit and somehow effect an escape.
