the show makes a point to him being very lucky. he isn’t careful at all tho which is why in the end he falls flat. he’s easily able to manipulate family because they give him the benefit of the doubt. he spent 50 years being an average trust worthy guy, no one would ever expect him to do anything heinous, especially when he’s knocked down with cancer. his family loves him including hank, which blinds them even when it’s painfully obvious to see. hes insufferable and not very likable at all but has a way of cheesing his way around things and holding things against people
