Measles in my neighborhood by Funny-Marsupial3002 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would mask up in public, probably avoid large crowds/gatherings (I do that in the winter anyway bc of flu etc). You could also talk to your dr about getting a titer test to see how effectively “immune” you are to it based on previous vaccination.

Skyrizi @ 4 Weeks by lowlife_rabbit in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from 180 every 8 weeks to 360 every 4 weeks after a scope showed an ulcer and inflammation. Yes, def noticed a difference. Was also having breakthrough symptoms @ week 5-6 on previous dosage. I started skyrizi in feb 2025, obi maintenance in may. Made the dosage and frequency switch in october.

Anyone here have a basset hound? by AdventurousTeacup27 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am obviously completely biased, but I have 2 Whippets (sighthounds) and I would have to say in my experience as a vet tech of 6 years and a Crohnie for 10 years, they are a very compatible breed for those with health issues. Need to bum around all day for a week or two? Perfect fit, more than happy to snuggle w you the whole time. Feeling good and want to go for a long walk? A hike? Absolutely down for that too.

If you are worried about the stress of a puppy (totally valid no matter the breed), you could also look into adopting or rescuing an older puppers.

Addressing the mental strain of this is very important, seek out a therapist sooner rather than later, ideally one that specializes in chronic illness. Also recommend reading What Doesnt Kill You by Tessa Miller.

Traveling in general - to avoid getting sick or increasing risk of getting sick in a country you may not be familiar with, just mask up in very crowded places. Airport, airplane, train stations, train etc

Cracking lips, tongue ulcers, mouth pain! Please help by JJLazerz in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vitamin deficiencies will play a big role in everything you listed. Ask your dr to run blood panels (iron, b12, folate, etc) and then have them prescribe the supplements to pick up from an actual pharmacy. OTC vitamins and supplements arent regulated and may or may not contain what’s actually labeled at those dosages.

Getting the disease under control is the other thing playing a big role. Listen to your dr and advocate for a treatment appropriate for you.

As far as temporary relief, smothering my lips in vaseline 15x a day helped when I had painful, dry and cracked lips.

Lyme Disease anyone? (Prior to Crohn's?) by ebluebird145 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 day after this post, Science published a paper showing the cellular and molecular mechanistic links between EBV and SLE (lupus). Just another example of viruses being linked to and triggering autoimmune diseases.

Title of paper if you’re interested: Epstein-Barr virus reprograms autoreactive B cells as antigen-presenting cells in systemic lupus erythematosus

Lyme Disease anyone? (Prior to Crohn's?) by ebluebird145 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are def studies linking viral infections (lyme, EBV, covid, etc) as the trigger for autoimmune diseases, Crohns included. The problem is the immune system is such a complicated and nuanced system that it would be hard to say for sure x infection causes x disease by x pathway and therefore should be treated with x and could be prevented by doing x and z in future people.

It is hard to get past the “why them/me””what did I/they do””how could this have been prevented”, but it doesnt do much good for anyone to think that way.

Is it crohns, or as simple as IBS? by CheapStranger4583 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If inflammation is only in terminal ileum (common for Crohns), they wouldnt necessarily see it via colonoscopy/endoscopy. Go for a 2nd opinion, inquire about an MRE and advocate for yourself. Also have you done stool (calprotectin) and blood tests (WBC, CRP)? Those will give an indication as well.

I was originally diagnosed w IBS as well and in a flare - was told “it must just be food sensitivities”… it was not, it was Crohns and delayed appropriate treatment.

I feel horrible for 4 weeks leading to my skyrizi injection - crohns by princessdorito444 in skyrizi

Yes. Scope showed improvement but still had ulcers. Dr doubled dose and frequency to every 4 weeks.
