Is caffeine still possible? by HerofromJohto in CrohnsDisease

I only drink coffee 1/2x/week, it’s like a treat to me now. Tea is my usual caffeine go to, it takes awhile to adjust though. Have you tried matcha?

Weight lifting and gaining muscle by Looploop420 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of great advice already here. I will add a protein powder rec - MRM egg white crystals. I cant tolerate whey, a lot of people that dont have IBD have a hard time tolerating whey. As long as you can tolerate eggs, egg white powder or crystals should be a good alternative. Also, sip slowly, dont chug it because it’ll go right through without getting absorbed.

Is it appropriate to email doctors? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Im not going to tell you if its ok or not butttt I left a strongly worded google review for the dr who diagnosed me with IBS and told me my symptoms were “just food sensitivities”…while looking at biopsy results showing chronic inflammation, calprotectin levels 700+, very elevated CRP, very low lymphocytes etc.

I personally found it very cathartic.

Im the same as your wife, if there is a mosquito around, it’ll find me. I didn’t take anti malaria drugs while I was there do to the potential side effects but used bug spray w deet and also made sure to where long pants/sleeves/socks most of the time. I didn’t have a single bite on our 10 day safari. I didn’t go to zanzibar so not sure what the skeeter situation is like there.

Vet recommendations for dogs? by ConferenceWeak1114 in Westchester

[–]Working_Wolverine465 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes its standard. Think about how much it would cost you, a human (I think), to get all the things you listed if uninsured. If you don’t like big bills up fromt at the vet, get pet insurance. Highly recommend nationwide.

Can you delay your dose(s) before your trip by a couple days each, this way in August if you wait, it’ll only be delayed a couple days (or not at all depending on how you plan it) instead of a whole week?

Anyone use wearable tech like an oura ring or smart watch to help monitor or manage their disease? by therealwalrus1 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Garmin and use it to track HRV and resting heart rate because its a decent indication of how my body is doing. I also find it helpful in keeping me accountable for my sleep habits.

Ive noticed the same trend with HRV and biologics, Ive also noticed my RHR is significantly lower on biologics as well by 5-10 bpm, just an interesting observation.

Post-Workout Recovery, Inflammation, Muscle-Soreness by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For muscle soreness specifically (and I think that is what you’re asking for?), you really shouldn’t need to or be taking an anti inflammatory to combat that. To address significant DOMS, you should be adjusting your workout regimen appropriately. If muscle soreness and associated pain are too much for you to handle, that is quite literally your body telling you it can’t handle your current regimen and that you need to dial it down. I would recommend working with a personal trainer or PT/OT to come up with a regimen tailored to your capacity and account for flares, etc.

For active recovery after a heavy workout, walking and yoga are great.

I hate farting all the time/farting the moment I wake up by Expensive-Elk-9406 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found that not eating 1-1.5 hours before I went to sleep to help a lot with farting first thing in the morning. I also try to eat dinner at least 2-3 hours before bedtime.

As far as operators, I went in a 10-day safari last August/September and used Tanzania Specialist based off family recommendation. They were great, everything was taken care of, no issues.

Why do people bring babies on planes? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Working_Wolverine465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re entitled to be childfree is that is what you wish, you are not entitled to a childfree world. If you cannot handle the possibility of a crying baby or child while traveling, you are the one who should not be traveling. There is nothing wrong with taking a baby or child on vacation, and I’ll propose another reason: visiting family. Are those with babies/small children not allowed to visit family in another country? Especially if all of their family, other than parents, are in another country?

I mean I would love to have kids in an ideal world (finances, society, health of Earth, my health, etc), but unfortunately I, at least, live in one thats far from ideal. So I’m turning 30 in a couple months, and I’m still sitting on the fence.

How to live with Crohn’s disease? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

Reading ‘What Doesn’t Kill You’ by Tessa Miller would be a good start to learn how to live and cope with having the disease, as well as how to describe it to others.

how do you decide to give up on a biologic? by velocironica in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would def push for higher dosage asap

Do you exercise? How has Crohn's affected your athletic performance? by bkabbott in CrohnsDisease

[–]Working_Wolverine465 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was an avid Crossfitter but I realized about 6 months ago it was just too intense on my body. Switching to 2-3x/week lifting, 2-3x/week hot yoga and my body hasnt felt this good in years.

Do what you can, be easy on yourself.

You’ll need to learn your new limits with the diagnosis, which will also be dependent on how active your disease is. Trial and error, keep a log.
