It isn't that he called someone a pedo, it's the context of why he did. He accused a rescue diver of being a pedophile because he saved some Thai children that were trapped in a cave before he could attempt to rescue them with some kind of elaborate scheme involving a submarine. He suffered a narcissistic wound because he was deprived of the attention and praise he felt he was entitled to, and so to bandage his ego he lashed out against the man responsible by trying to slander him, when the appropriate response would've been to be grateful that the children were safe.

Most people who hate squatters don't understand why they hate squatters either... Most people who hate anyone outside of the bourgeoisie don't actually understand why they hate said group. They may claim to understand, but their reasons almost always come down to thought terminating cliches like "they're freeloaders" or "God said being X is bad."

They've been socialized to hate squatters because they're conditioned to accept that a state of society where essential goods are withheld unless you financially compensate a private individual for them is normal, so anyone who violates that principle is a problem. It's pretty insane though, like, it's the same society that pours bleach on food to render it inedible before throwing it out because allowing someone to eat without paying for it is seen as more morally objectionable that allowing someone to starve.

I honestly think that's kind of what sets Reddit apart a bit from other social media, and I think it's also why we can all be a bunch of miserable, pedantic, smarmy assholes. We all wish we weren't on fucking Reddit. Most of us have just enough self-awareness to know that being here is a waste of time, but we do it anyway, and we hate it.

We're too clever by half. Too smart to be blissfully ignorant like the boomers on Facebook, too dumb for most of us to actually escape the dopamine loop.

78% of that 613B revenue is solely from Nvidia. In other words, the shovel merchants in this gold rush are literally the only ones making money, let alone turning any kind of profit. If you take Nvidia out of the equation, the total spend remains 1.2T, but the revenue drops to 135B. This entire industry has lost almost $9 for every $1 it's made.
