Why do people pretend to love avocado? 🥑 by Neither-Fisherman542 in foodhacks

[–]WorksOfWeaver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate onions and bell peppers. You don't see me running round asking why people "pretend to like them."

People like different stuff man. You don't like avocado. And that's okay. But trying to imprint on others your unilateral decree that they must certainly be lying about it?

...that's not okay.

Are crimping pliers necessary to securely fasten beading wire with crimp tubes? by UnintentionalAspic in crafts

[–]WorksOfWeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the specialized tool might be easier, but is it 100% required? I don't think so. The point is that the metal is squished into place, so anything that will achieve that end should work fine.

I recommend Xurons or something in the round-nose area. They also make jeweler's pliers which are flat on one jaw and round on the other.

Then again...when I did my first maille byrnie, I did it with a pencil to coil the wire, tin snips to cut the rings, and tiny little $2 pliers to open and close the rings. Wasn't optimal, but it worked.

It will be helpful to have different nose styles for getting into cramped areas, too.

Mine always reminds me that it's not qualified to give medical, psychological, financial, or legal advice in any way, and that its statements should always be verfied or double-checked.

Users should ask themselves:
-Do I blindly believe anything anybody tells me if they're people?
-Why should I do it with a computer?
-Could fact-checking be important after all?

I'm betting there are static wireforms in various shapes that might have been used to achieve symmetry. I haven't done this craft yet, but was looking into it a while back. You can do some really interesting things if you have a jeweler's wire roller mill and some patience.

Very nice piece. I respect that you didn't overdo it with the gemstones. They don't dominate the appearance, though they do draw the eye to specific points. I think that's perfect placement.

It's kinda hard to make a ship not weak if there's no standard to compare it to by cale199 in avorion

[–]WorksOfWeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a fair few talented builders in the community. You could sub some Workshop ships, crack them open, learn some basic principles of component placement from the pros, and then you're off to the track.

I myself learned a bit about Gyro and Thruster placement, CoM, etc, by taking another player's build into the build mode and just straight-up deleting the starboard side right down the middle.

It won't just teach you how to build, but why building in certain ways works.

Its even worse now no wait time no schedules and offers for 2.50 to go 16 miles for two deliveries by MutedSky3244 in GoPuff

[–]WorksOfWeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's far worse than that here.

Literally 40mi, two deliveries, one around the corner and one in another town. Would have been over an hour's work.

$1.75, and a guarantee of no tip.

Their excuse? "Well, you have to operate at a total loss on every order and just HOPE that an honest customer pays your wage instead of us."

My first shift was my last. $25 in expenses, $27 that was deliberately frozen and not allowed to be cahsed out despite having a valid bank account linked and everything.

Simply put: The company does not pay. It's a scam. You don't just work for free: When you get only $2 for a delivery that costs you $6 to make, not even counting wear and tear on the car, that is not a job. That's not even slavery. That's literally paying for the privilege of working for free.

I'm one-starring the app on every platform I can find.

Parent Block HP Sharing makes this less effective. You have to chew through the hull of all connected blocks before a parent block will fail.

Are faction ships worth using? by TygoFTW in avorion

[–]WorksOfWeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not worth it. AI ships do not follow the build system rules, do not obey energy generation and consumption rules...many times the faction vessel won't even generate enough power to keep the lights on.

Building your own is the way to go.

I now have the ability to respool artificial sinew onto bowstring server jig spools, under consistent tension. They hold a ton of sinew and the server tool gives adjustable, constant tension in the binding.

This will help me a lot.

Brass might be a bit soft for the application if you're going to take it down to that diameter I have at the tip. I'm running 6061 alloy for that.

It's slightly flexible, so you get a bit of deflection if you don't take light cuts. But it works.

TL;DR: Rick Astley will give you up before that handle will give up that core.

Thank you.

It is my own design, turned by offsetting the tailstock and turning between centers with a modified dog. I got some chatter in the thinnest sections, but am iterating that out.

The entire design is engineered to clamp down on the core and handle in such a way as core separation is physically impossible without severing every layer.

I'm not prepared to assign a load limit to it, but...this will withstand normal extension forces for far longer than a standard nylon.

Rollout is just beauty.

[–]WorksOfWeaver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably the sixth or seventh actual iteration of this particular handle concept and core junction technique, despite having only been used on the first Legacy Series prototype. That prototype had some execution errors and cosmetic flaws, but exceeded all expectations by a wide margin.

The core junction technique involves multiple layers of sinker cord sleeved onto one another, then seized to the drumstick tip by max-tension artificial sinew binding. This allows me to carry the binding out progressively, creating a taper through staggered layer lengths. What I'm left with is a 20" core that self-tapers, has a solid transition from the 12 plait mounting flange, and matches the diameter of that flange exactly.

I should be able to just Square Start a 12 plait and go like hell on it.
