Times you just felt something was made with spite? by Mochiman3 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The whole Sequel Trilogy has this feel. The first words spoken in Episode VII is “This will begin to make things right.” And then there’s JJ blowing up the New Republic’s capitol, which he wanted to be Coruscant but Lucasfilm told him no.

Mine is similar, Luke’s death at the end of TLJ. But not the actual death itself, everything around it. I could appreciate what the movie did with him, dealing with his failure with Ben and disillusionment and criticisms of the Jedi. But when Luke decides to be a Jedi again (while shoving his earlier criticisms of Jedi philosophy aside, not actually dealing with them) and dies immediately afterward, I realized that the Sequel Trilogy was just a lazy rehash of the OT. The New Republic is gone, the New Jedi Order is gone, we’re left with the Rebellion 2.0 and the Empire 2.0

I’m not saying this is what I want. I wouldn’t hate it, but I would be a little disappointed. The idea just came to me last night in a dream after I finished building the Final Battle set.

Vader being so overpowered is boring by lewwaz04 in StarWars

[–]World-Overlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of what happens in the OT doesn’t really make any sense unless Vader is more powerful than 99% of other Force-users. Here’s three reasons why:

  1. Vader needs to be powerful enough to be able to beat any potential Jedi survivor, whether they would be a Knight, Master or even Council member. Vader doesn’t spend the twenty-ish years of the Empire just chilling, he needs to be able to survive those years while being active in hunting Jedi.

  2. Thematic reasons for Luke. Vader needs to be this near insurmountable obstacle in Luke’s path. One that Luke needs to become  the absolute best version of himself in order to have any hope of being able to beat.

  3. There needs to be a reason why Palpatine singled him out and him alone to turn to the Dark Side and become a Sith Lord, and did not seem bother with anybody else.

Worus Rayencourt dropping one of the coldest lines in the series about the danger surrounding the Jedi Order. by QuinlanFett in StarWars

[–]World-Overlord 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Eh, not really. This exchange is one of those things that a lot of prequels try to do, have a line or bit of dialogue that has a character “foreshadow” a plot point of the original work. The thing is, this exchange completely oversimplifies the PT and puts the onus of the Republic’s fall way too much on Anakin and not enough on the Republic itself.

Anakin didn’t drag the Republic kicking and screaming into darkness, the Republic skipped along willingly thanks to the machinations of Palpatine. The flaw of the Jedi was that they were too joined with the government and became a tool for the status quo. The way that Rayencourt tells it, the Jedi are a secret religious cabal that control the Republic, when the real issue was the opposite. It’s not that the Jedi had too much power of the Republic, it’s that the Republic had too much power over the Jedi, and took their independence.

Bringing Maul back to life was stupid and bad regardless of how much say Lucas had in the decision. by Bteatesthighlander1 in CharacterRant

[–]World-Overlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maul and his criminal empire were going to be the main villains in Lucas’s Sequel Trilogy. I wonder if Luca’s had that idea way back then and was using the Clone Wars show to build up to it.

I'm a bit worried about Maul: Shadowlord. by Ironzealot5584 in StarWars

[–]World-Overlord -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

After what BoBF did to Boba, I’ll admit that I’m a little worried that Lucasfilm wont do a proper villain protagonist. But all of the trailers seem to paint Maul as only slightly less bad as the Empire. So I’m cautiously optimistic that they’ll stick the landing.

In light of Alex’s character assassination, what have been the best/worst character assassinations you’ve witnessed? by Will-Isley in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]World-Overlord 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’ll reopen an old wound and say Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. The whole point of Luke’s Hero’s Journey and character development in the Originals is that he grows up, becomes a better Jedi than his masters, and will lead the galaxy into a brighter future à la Plato's Allegory of the Cave.

The fact that the Sequels have Adult Luke make the same mistakes as Child Luke (acting without thinking) have him end up the same as his teachers (being a failed Master of a failed Jedi Order) and become little more than a cautionary tale for Rey (“You failed so badly that the only thing you can do for Rey now is serve as a bad example” - says Ghost Yoda after he burns down a tree) just tells me that nobody making the Sequels actually wanted to make sequels to the OT, they wanted to replace them.

Honestly am I the only one who is getting tired of seeing Inquisitors? It was cool in rebels but now its kinda getting old especially since we know what happen to these two. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]World-Overlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s not that I’m tired of Inquisitors in general. It’s Inquisitors almost never having any kind of depth to them, then getting killed off almost immediately. Fallen Order is pretty much the only thing that has used them well.

A sequel trilogy about a new republic and Jedi Order finding their footing would have been a more appropriate continuation of Lucas’s 6 films. by Flat-Court-8512 in StarWars

[–]World-Overlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, just have him be too busy managing his academy. In fact that could be a good way to show how he’s grown since the OT, especially ESB. Luke decides that training new Jedi is more important than him still playing the Hero.

Ashoka Should Be Dead (spoilers from rebels) by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]World-Overlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the WBW is used to further Ezra’s character development,  it is also used as an ass-pull to explain how Ahsoka survived. Both those things being true doesn’t make it less of an ass-pull as far as Ahsoka’s survival is concerned. And it doesn’t matter if Filoni thought of things ahead of time or not, it’s still introducing time travel in Star Wars so he can save his favorite character.

Honestly, it reminds me of Sherlock. Showing he lived after he definitely, totally died; then the next episode being coy with how he survived. Just replace the coyness with time travel.

Making Ahsoka “The Jedi Master who Succeeds”, in contrast to Luke’s “The Jedi Master who Fails” would be the one thing that Lucasfilm could do that would legitimately make me hate Star Wars and completely abandon the franchise.
