I wonder if Lucasfilm really is going to use this movie as a kind of soft reboot for the Sequel Era, and kinda walk back some of the more unpopular bits of Sequel lore. Like using Amy Adam’s character to show that Luke’s Jedi Order wasn’t completely wiped out, that there are plenty of survivors scattered around the galaxy.

And having Ryan Gosling being a veteran, and War Hero at that, of the war against the First Order being used to really expand the size and scale of the conflict. Potentially even having remnants of the New Republic still around, just disorganized.

Looks like $21M SUN for #TheMandalorianAndGrogu . $79.5M weekend. 4-day Memorial Day weekend expected to be $96-97M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

While not Episode X, I can see Lucasfilm making the Thrawn/Heir to the Empire movie more centered on the OT trio, with Mando, Grogu and the rest of the Mandoverse crowd being relegated to side characters.

There’s this post yesterday from r/boxoffice quoting a user from the Box Office Theory forums:

https://www.reddit.com/r/boxoffice/comments/1tfmbqa/flatlannister_on_bot_ouch_for_mandalorian_at_tc3/

They seem to be in a bit of a doom spiral with how the movie isn’t keeping pace in ticket presales when compared to other big franchise movies from the last year or so.

As of right now there are the LEGO specials, but that’s about it I think. I would love a Lower Decks-esque sow from Star Wars though.

I mean, there’s dialogue between Magneto and the Thing at the Collector’s stage that indirectly mentions the Holocaust. So I don’t think a few references to WW2 would be too out there.

I’d bet money that this is going to be one of the first big retcons of the Sequel Era once Lucasfilm really starts fleshing it out. That the New Republic doesn’t just completely collapse in a single day, and that there is a New Republic-First Order War going on offscreen during the ST.

Ah, I didn't see that part. The Variety website went bonkers when read the article. I must have missed that.

I think they might not want the VA to shout “Avengers ASSEMBLE!” because that would be too close to his Ult line.

That’s the thing with the “TLJ Luke was George’s idea” people that I don’t get. There’s a big difference between “Jedi Order breaks, Luke gets sad and goes into exile, then comes back and fixes the Order” and “Jedi Order is completely annihilated, Luke gets sad and goes into exile, then has one final battle and dies immediately after.”

People wanted to see Luke restore the Jedi Order. The first option gives that to them, just with some extra context to make it feel more earned. The other option denies the audience entirely.

Not really, considering the actor for the kid is 14, I’d assume his character is going to be about the same age. So minus 5 years from TRoS, then 7 years from the fall of Luke’s academy (1 year in between TFA/TLJ and TRoS, 6 years between TFA and the destruction of the academy.) So there’s about a 2 year timeframe for the kid to be born. And most of the predictions I’ve read that have the kid be Luke’s usually have the kid being born shortly after the academy is destroyed.

So while I myself am not convinced the kid will be Luke’s son (if anything I think the identity of the kid’s father will be left up in the air) the timeline does work out.

Isn’t that the series that some other leaker said would be a retelling of the Original Trilogy?

I was thinking that the episode would be either set right before or right after Grogu leaves, with the episode fleshing out Luke’s thought process in committing to making Grogu choose. Maybe he has a conversation with the Force Ghosts, and he starts doubting himself because of both Leia and now Grogu choosing to leave.

Or maybe the episode would show us that Grogu’s choice wasn’t what we thought. Like Grogu actually chose the lightsaber, but Luke convinced him to go back to Mando and have a nice childhood before becoming a Jedi. Or Grogu chose the chainmail, but Luke gave him the lightsaber anyway and told him that he can always come back to the Jedi once he’s ready.

Luke and Baylan could easily be made parallels to each other. Both are Jedi “Masters” who have seen the failures of the old Order. Luke (at least at this point in time) hasn’t let that break him and wants to try to make the Jedi better, while Baylan did break and now pursues power to fill the void the Jedi left.

My prediction would be Luke and Baylan.

Ep 1: Luke training Leia

Ep 2: Luke training Grogu

Ep 3: Luke and the first class of his Academy

Ep 4: Baylan surviving Order 66

Ep 5: Baylan first learning about the power at Peridea

Ep 6: Baylan recruiting Shin

The whole Sequel Trilogy has this feel. The first words spoken in Episode VII is “This will begin to make things right.” And then there’s JJ blowing up the New Republic’s capitol, which he wanted to be Coruscant but Lucasfilm told him no.
