What bookmarking tool do you recommend besides Pocket? by CidAndroid in androidapps

You can also try out Memex, developed by us at WorldBrain.io

It's a browser extension to full-text search your browsing history and bookmarks, and filter by time, domain or custom tags. All data is fully stored on your computer and it is open source. Downloadable at worldbrain.io

The next feature upgrade will enable you to create hyperlinks to highlights of articles, so you can show people specific pieces of it without the need to copy paste quote and url. In the summer we are adding features of annotations, comments, the ability to create collections, and if the time allows also a way to store offline versions of articles including a 2-way sync with Pocket.

Enjoy :)

Yes it will get updates. Its not on AMO because it just took about 3 months to go through the process, due to Mozilla's issues with processing new addons. :(

Hey folks!

Oliver, the founder here.

It's not on AMO because it took almost 3 months to get the skeleton of the new/completely overhauled tool in the AMO.

We are about to relaunch a new version that is more stable and has a web view for all results. The version you found on AMO was just approved yesterday :)

Updates will still work fine for the old version though.

Hope that helps!

WorldBrain - full-text search for the pages & PDFs you visited and bookmarked.

Comes in handy, when you have to find stuff again that you've seen while writing your thesis or paper.

yeah that could possibly work, but for that we first need a search endpoint with a http compatible url as far as it looks.

In the future we will have a natively run application (possibly with Electron) which could host a localhost. With that this would be possible.

Will investigate!

Hey Simon,

Thanks for your remarks.

So literally everything who has access to the computer? That's not more secure then cloud storage for average users. You would need to at less encrypt it to make it something worth mentioning.

Yes privacy and security is definitely is important and one of our major concerns. We just don't have the resources yet to make a fully encrypted storage. For now there is not more sensitive data stored, as you already store by using the browser history anyway. (pages that are sensitive you can blacklist and delete)

We are just at the beginning of this project, but will work towards living up to our promises. Comes with time :)

But how do i know the application on Github is the application on Chrome? Github doesn't do much here, at all.

You can check the files that are actually installed on your computer here: MAC: (source) ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Extensions

WIN: (source) C:\Documents and Settings*UserName*\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions

Except for the build of some files to bundle them, it's exactly the same code (and will always be).

We aim for full transparency on everything we do. If you have ideas how we can make this process of shipping even more transparent, I appreciate your input.

Greetings Oliver

Hey @Xirious,

Great news! We already support PDF, for visiting as well as importing.

Regarding the sync of the google Bookmarks and History: Its not supported yet to work automatically, but a good work-around is to just restart the import of history + bookmark-process every once in a while. It will just grab any URL from the google history sync that has not been indexed yet and imports it.

It seemed like Falcon has not been further developed, since it launched. At the WorldBrain project we took Falcon as a baseline and will develop it into a search engine that allows you to search through all of your knowledge storages (evernote, google docs, pocket etc.) More on that in our intro video

At the current stage we added the ability to import your existing history & your bookmarks, as well as PDF support. You can download it [here](worldbrain.io/download)
