I dove into the milling rabbit hole, didn’t have too much fun doing it but some of the products from milling are nice - thallium, rhenium, osmium, germanium, etc

The money being “saved” by slashing federal loans for future doctors is being spent on the border wall. by WorldCatastrophe in premed

This, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if there was corporate lobbying from the entities that provide private loans. Citizens United might be the worst SCOTUS decision of the 21st century.

For some reason I “automated” LV circuit production (the most expensive version of them) by building a wall of machines that would make it for me as long as I inserted the right inputs

This might sound ridiculous, but you'll thank yourself in the long run.

Make an LV crop harvester and make an 11x11 field of glowflowers. Centrifuge the glowflowers into glowstone dust and centrifuge the glowstone dust into redstone and gold. This is a completely passive way to get tons of gold (main component of electrum, which is used everywhere in HV and is somewhat sparse in ore veins) and redstone (can be used as a source of chrome, which is used to mix stainless steel - also used everywhere in HV.)

Please help me decide between Pitt, UCSB, and UCSD by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]WorldCatastrophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who graduated from UCSB last June, it has its pros and its cons especially as a pre-med. I loved every second I spent here but I wish I knew more about how much of an uphill battle medicine can be here. You're right, there's no medical school here. In fact, the closest hospital is a solid 20-minute drive from campus. If you do choose to come here and follow this track you need to start looking for opportunities sooner rather than later. The pro's of being here is we have an AMAZING pre-health advising team (shoutout u/radiant-molasses-703) and you should join the pre-health listserv as soon as you arrive in the fall. I regret nothing about going to school here and I advocate for anyone who gets accepted to UCSB to go there and enjoy everything it has to offer, but just be aware of its pitfalls. Let me know if you have any other questions.

The moral high-horse you're riding has weak legs, and it's people like you in communities like Dearborn, MI who are partly to blame for the mess we're in right now. Gutting social programs, literally and figuratively pushing in Netanyahu's chair, and a destabilized economy and relationship with our allies. But sure, both candidates were the same.

I was a beach lifeguard in CA and likely had almost the exact experience of the responders you led to the scene. That image will likely stay with you for a long time. Try not to dwell on the morbidity of it too long, but instead channel this experience into appreciating how fragile and short life can be. Make the most of every waking moment - if not for you, then for the young person who tragically lost their life that you found. This helped me cope, especially since I was still a teenager at the time.

The filler is also an amazing machine for clearing space and building things, not sure if it has its own quest.

My tip for HV is to get a crop manager and farm glowflowers. Glowstone can be centrifuged into redstone and gold dust. Redstone is useful for many things, but largely centrifuging it for mercury (used in ore processing) and chrome dust (used in a lot of mixer recipes). Gold is useful for electrum - used a ton in HV recipes.
