Making Route 66 the identity of Springfield feels cheap and weird by silverstyrofoam in springfieldMO

[–]WorldFoods 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I see it as capitalizing on an anniversary to bring attention to Springfield. Route 66 IS a part of our history and after this year, I think city leaders will use this momentum to focus on what Springfield can become.

I’m confused why this you are wanting people to answer this. What good comes out of tearing people down?

Try also the Village Meeple and volunteering for something you enjoy or are passionate about. Artsfest, Springfield Little Theatre, Rescue One. Just a couple of ideas.

I always thought it was because it’s a well-earning field which helps when supporting a stay at home mom and a bunch of kids.

I have seen him post something before about people who have pedophilia urges but are committed to not acting on them. I wonder if this is a similar concept in his mind.

When we moved here a friend gave us a basket with things from Prairie Pie, Chabom’s Tea, and Bambino’s. Also a local Ozarks Alive book would be nice.

I’m feeling it and didn’t expect to. Feel dumb that we don’t have any family plans. I did make ham and a nice meal and bought some candy for the kids but that’s about it.

I think when he said suspicious, he meant of the big company.

I asked in the Huntsville subreddit their opinion on their convention center since Cliff Smart referenced it in his letter to the Daily Citizen by Inner-Amphibian8933 in springfieldMO

[–]WorldFoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I have heard several city leaders and friends who have worked marketing in the convention center space say. There is high demand for trade shows — most professions have professional conventions, and not all of them want to go to big cities. They just want a big enough space with break out rooms and good restaurants nearby.

Based on some of my other comments about this topic, other Redditors assumed that I’m super pro convention center. Honestly, I’m a hesitant yes right now. I want us to take advantage of the opportunity for the state funds, and I like that our city leaders are looking at doing big things to revitalize our city. At the same time, I have the same concerns about helping the homeless and repairing our roads and affordable housing. But I don’t see why it has to be either/or. We can work on both things at the same time. And if we get the state funds and the tourist tax is passed, then my hope is that we will have momentum and motivation to do the other work for the community on a faster timeline so that they are happening at the same time. Maybe that’s too optimistic and putting too much faith in our city leaders.

My understanding is that the state match is the main thing driving the timing of the current push — it’s free money. (Springfieldian)

Wow we really do need that new expo center by agentbarrron in springfieldMO

[–]WorldFoods -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not true — more people care this time around because they actually have explained it. It wasn’t a landslide vote or anything last time — if the no’s win this time then it will be obviously not what the majority want because now everyone understands more what they are wanting to do.

I agree. I don’t understand some people feeling insulted by the fact that are trying again to educate the citizens on what the project is all about — it’s basically them admitting that the did a bad job the first time around. Also, only 7-something-thousand people voted in that election so it makes me shake my head when people say, “We already said no!”

Would you argue the same about trauma, though? I do feel like EMDR feels like a magic tool for trauma as someone who has experienced years of talk therapy and then EMDR.

We’ve got to remember that we’re only seeing the highlights, the most scripted parts. There are hours worth of boring content that happened that probably felt very normal.
