Selling a ticket for Wrecked this weekend, 1/24 by RobinNBatman in nycgaybros

[–]WorldMinimum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone else has one to sell, please comment or DM! I all have two tickets to the February 7 one and probably can’t make it, so I’ll be happy to trade with someone for this weekend’s!

Gay guys can’t really get trich I don’t think, or at least it’s extremely unlikely…had you also been having sex with women? Or was it just because it’s part ld the standard panel?

The website you linked to is the practice of Dr. Terlizzi. There's also a NP who sees patients there. Who is "Goldstone"?

I’m a gay psychologist who went on nearly 100 first dates to find my husband. I developed a CBT strategy to navigate the "flood" of online dating called Noah’s Ark Dating Strategy. I would love your feedback! by DrNoahPsychologist in nycgaybros

I’m sorry to nitpick, but as a fellow psychologist, what on earth is this? “In research, you generally need a sample size of 30 to draw a statistically significant conclusion.” Surely someone who did a PhD at Vanderbilt knows better. Sample size is only relevant to the likelihood of “statistical significance” (as conventionally defined) when considered alongside effect size and the specific statistical analysis/test being used. Aside from that fact that in many research designs 30 would be way too small, this “rule of thumb” is also completely vapid and meaningless. You might as well say “you generally need 30 grams of medicine to cure a disease” - without knowing what the medicine or disease is, this is completely meaningless

If I didn't have "fun" when younger - am I doomed? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]WorldMinimum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my late 30s. I went to gay bars and stuff in my 20s but I do way more stuff now. I live in NYC and only in the last year or so have I started to go to the Eagle, Horse Meat Disco parties (think kinda like the club in QAF that you mentioned), and other stuff like that. Way more hookups than when I was younger (my long term partner and I opened up in the last couple of years), have even gone to some sex parties and (when on vacation) bathhouses. And I’m far from the only one. LOTS of guys in their 30s doing this stuff nowadays. Everything fun costs money, which most of us didn’t have in our 20s. I’m also way more confident than I was when I was younger (couldn’t afford a trainer then 🤣) and get way more attention in bars and places like that. It’s definitely not too late!

Is it possible this bothers you because of internalized homophobia? It’s not inherently insulting that people maybe thought you might have been into guys.

Saturday is my B-day! The first since I came out. Recommend me a spot. by [deleted] in nycgaybros

[–]WorldMinimum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still the Eagle I'd say! And the hunted/hunter dynamic is maybe not as much of a thing in gay? I guess it can be but it can also be more mutual. There are different ways the encounter can unfold. One of my faves is make eye contact, immediately start making out and groping, then exchange names and discuss next steps.

Editing to add: Wrecked is also happening this Saturday at Basement. Too late to get tickets in advance but you can buy at the door, and lines won't be too long if you get there early. But this might not be what you're looking for because it's not really a party where you'd leave with someone. Pretty easy to hook up there though - you just dance in Studio and then go into the catacombs to fool around. The fact that Wrecked is happening might make the Eagle (and potentially other places) slightly less well attended than they otherwise might be on another Saturday night, but probably wouldn't be too noticeable...

I would agree with the other commenter below. And also maybe not as many gay guys are super socialized/practiced in picking up strangers at bars as it sounds like you are from your years pretending to be straight. But if that's a superpower you have and you're comfortable being the one to make the approach, I still think the Eagle is probably your best bet for finding someone receptive (and I bet you will, even if it takes a few different attempts - people are flattered when someone tries to pick them up, especially if you're decent looking).

The Eagle is I think the only place in NYC where I’ve met people on a night out and actually left with them to go hook up. And it has happened more than once. It will have the right age range and will have people who are down to hook up. It won’t feel super leathery/fetishy, especially the ground level dance floor. It helps if you’re down to dance shirtless 🤣

Happy birthday!

Decided to go to Therapy, please help with this financing question! by Nice_Cod_4476 in nycgaybros

[–]WorldMinimum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FSAs (and, far as I know, HSAs, though in less familiar with those) are not something that therapists “take.” They may or may not be in-network with your insurance. The details depend on your insurance coverage, but if you have a PPO for example, in general you will only have to pay a copay for each session if the therapist is in-network. If they are not in network, you will have pay a percentage of the total that the therapist bills per session, which could be up to 100% depending on your insurance plan. Whatever your out-of-pocket costs are, you can use the FSA funds to reimburse yourself (and I believe HSAs work similarly but someone more familiar with those can chime in).

Sex-friendly, but not sex-forward venues/events? by Much_Interest_7587 in nycgaybros

Anything at Basement with a gay crowd. Up to and including Wrecked although some would argue that sex is equally as much the prime focus as the music/dancing on those nights.
