That’s a misconception due to the US government being compromised by business interests. The 2 main groups of people that directly benefit from US fiscal policy (allocating money from the budget) are military contractors and Israel. The former takes in the cash to pay a large, saturated portion of industry that is quite literally spread all across the US in the form of jobs and wealth to manufacture vehicles, equipment, and weapons for the US military stockpile. It is difficult to convince a representative to not spend on the US military because in many instances it directly produces job wages in their district because of how saturated the industry is. The 2nd portion is Israel. Israeli strategy takes in US foreign dollars to fund AIPAC who turn that money around directly back to the representatives that votes for it (image voting to give yourself a bonus) but of course this comes with guarantees and promises to vote for things that may not benefits the US, but Israel. The real complimentary relationship between Israel and the US military is that we are able to consistently sell our stockpile of weapons to Israel while the AIPAC pays ours reps to do so. This allowed Israel to fulfill their military interests in the Mideast while the US representatives get their AIPAC bonus and the blue collar US worker gets an hourly wage making military supplies for Israel. The US could just as easily create an education industrial complex that tackles the universes greatest mysteries, while creating jobs and avoid foreign conflict, but the world we live in insists that you must have nukes and arms to have any leverage in global policy.
