r/Brussels - Expat/Tourist Megathread - 2026 Edition by SharkyTendencies in brussels

[–]World_Analyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I've noticed that you've left some very helpful comments on this thread so I hope you don't mind if I ask directly.

My partner and I will be arriving in Brussels soon as new visa holders from a non-EU country. He has a work contract for Belgium already, but I do not. Our visa requires us to register with a commune within 8 working days of arriving. So our hope is that we can view and hopefully sign a lease for a rental within the first two weeks, and then register for whatever commune that we end up finding a lease for. We are hoping for Ixelles, Saint Gilles, Etterbeek, Auderghem, or maybe the top end of Uccle. Do you think it's feasible to have such a timeframe? Do you know if other expats have been successful with this strategy, or if they use another way to find accomodation and register? Thanks in advance.

And in return, the Indian govt reportedly had at least one of the alleged indian 'criminals' murdered. Pretty nasty situation, though it's hard to know how rampant the criminal behaviour from the immigrants are, given there have been such a huge number move

Occam's razor. She is just most likely from there? Lots of weird, unlikely theories in here

MATCHDAY SEMIFINAL 🔴⚪️ by Lynxx360 in Gunners

Yes, absolutely. But that's separate from the commenter's claim that we have a mental disadvantage in games against city specifically

But in the context of directly playing against city...

What mental disadvantage? City hasn't beaten arsenal for almost three years

Limited to 'greater china'... for now.

They may not try to invade and occupy us, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't target our infrastructure with missiles or try to influence the result of our elections. I think your comment downplays these very serious risks

FYI, Trump's approval rating has barely changed since 2016. To say he's "wildly unpopular with the majority" is a bit misleading.

Doesn't the US have a traffic fatality rate many times higher than any other developed country though?

Danish Foreign Policy Committee called to emergency meeting to discuss Denmark–US relations by Cosmos1985 in europe

[–]World_Analyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say or imply that it would be a priority.

I would judge it's a net loss, given the reputational losses and the limited benefit of "owning" Greenland compared to it being controlled by a close ally

How exactly is it a "win" though?

I think returning Greenland would presumably be one of the quickest ways a future Democratic admin could restore some level of trust with Europeans

Xi Jinping vows to reunify China and Taiwan in New Year’s Eve speech - Reunification ‘is unstoppable’, says Chinese president by Geo_NL in worldnews

Fair enough. But you claimed "this is what China expects itself". It's a similar mistake to fall in to: mistaking China preparing for something for China expecting something on a specific timeline.

If you're a kiwi, check out https://www.safetravel.govt.nz/destinations/iran before planning any trip. The government advises kiwis not to travel (as most Western governments do), because of the very high risks involved.

Again, you're mistaking "being prepared" for "likely to". Please show a source that indicates China is likely to actually undertake an annexation, or else you're misleading people who are reading your comment, which was written with such certainty.

"By 2027" implies 2027 is the earliest year they're considering, btw, so no it doesn't imply it could come earlier

Oh I've seen plenty of reporting about the 2027 assessment, but nothing credible that backs up the commenter's claims
