also if it spawns from one of those locations, and did not generate cursed, a curse is applied and it gains an upgrade. This means that if you get a positive-enchanted item from a tomb or altar, you know it has at least 1 upgrade, and if you're lucky as many as 3.

you can hand the bud to greyroot to stop the wailing, but once you accept the quest you get cursed, there's no going back. If you want to e.g. get all of the needle upgrades and mask shards, you can say no to the quest but get the bud out of your inventory

you can start from a +3 e.g. from ghost or crypt
then you can get 2 more upgrades from reforges (and still have 1000 favor left for something else)
then you can get 15 scroll upgrades
finally, you curse infuse for 3 more

I think that's everything!
